Annette and Shang’s Intimate Garden Wedding at The White Rabbit

Annette and Shang wed in a beautiful and intimate garden wedding at The White Rabbit, filled with pretty floral garlands, fairy lights, and lots of love and laughter!
Annette Choo, 29, Product Manager, and Shang Lim, 30, Product Manager, fell in love over a shared sense of humour. The couple wed in a beautiful and intimate garden wedding decked with floral and fairy light garlands at The White Rabbit on 11 November 2017, surrounded by their closest family and friends.

How did you meet each other?
We met as part of the Management Associate programme at OCBC Bank and got to know each other better while working on cross-functional projects and recreational programmes within the bank. We became attracted to each other due to our similar approach to work and also our shared sense of humour on common topics.
What made you fall in love with your partner?
Shang: I found that Annette complemented me in many areas where I’m lacking. For example, she has a compassionate nature, which influenced me to think a lot more about things from another person’s point of view. Her sense of humour and wittiness are naturally attractive and it’s nice that we get each other’s jokes when others don’t. Also, we share similar views and goals in life.
What was the proposal like?
Annette: The surprise proposal was in Iceland in 2016. As part of the trip, Shang planned for the both of us to take a helicopter ride to a glacier where he would propose. However, there were strong winds on that day and the helicopter had to take a detour to a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
After the nerve-racking ride, when we landed safely on the cliff, Shang took out the ring and a bouquet of flowers—which he had made arrangements with the company to prepare—and proposed. He showed me a video he made of him asking my parents for permission for us to get married. In the video, my sisters and Shang’s family made a surprise appearance to congratulate us as well. The final thing was to check if the ring fit before I agreed and he was happy that it did!
How did you create The White Rabbit wedding celebration you had?
We started by visualising how we wanted the wedding, in alignment with our pre-wedding shoot at the lavender fields and small town of Aix-en-Provence. We wanted it to be an intimate and closed affair with just our family and close friends—people who have impacted our lives and people who know us as a couple. We also knew what we didn’t want—a traditional hotel wedding dinner and a big wedding where you don’t get a chance to interact with your guests.
Once we got the guest list down to the right size, we shortlisted some potential venues with the theme in mind and finally decided on The White Rabbit wedding venue due to its naturally intimate setting and venue size.
What was your wedding day like?
The days leading up to the wedding were filled with tasks and appointments with vendors and our close friends who were helping out. On our wedding day, we didn’t really get to sit down to “take in the moment” as everything happened sequentially as planned, to the hour.
We were thankful to the people around us who helped put everything we planned together. The coming together of everything at the end was a relief for us; we were happy to see our guests enjoying themselves as well rather than rushing out the door after the last dish!
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Annette: The most memorable moment of the wedding was a piano duet which we performed to entertain the guests. Shang had learnt piano when he was a kid, and his rusty skills still enabled him to punch out a couple of simple tunes (a mash up of “My Heart Will Go On” and “Right Here Waiting”. It was nerve-racking when it was my turn to join him on the stage for the duet, and I forgot all my notes! Thankfully Shang was able to help me finish my notes, the same way he’s able to finish my sentences!
