Alicia and Luc’s Destination Pre-Wedding Photoshoot in Abu Dhabi and Elegant Wedding at Hotel Fort Canning
Sneak a peek at Alicia and Luc’s destination pre-wedding photoshoot in exotic Abu Dhabi and read about their beautiful wedding at Hotel Fort Canning.
Alicia Tay, 29, met her husband, Luc De Moulliac, 28, in New Zealand while they were studying in university. Unknown to the both of them, they were nursing a secret crush for one another that blossomed into a beautiful love story. When Luc was relocated to Abu Dhabi for work, the lovebirds seized the opportunity to embark on a pre-wedding photoshoot with an exotic scenery. Later, they tied the knot in an elegant wedding celebration at Hotel Fort Canning surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
What’s one of the things you love most about your partner?
Alicia: It started off as a crush for me. Little did I know those feelings were mutual. We eventually started spending more time together and things just carried on naturally like it was meant to be. I was attracted by his passion in the things he does. His no-nonsense approach to things, the drive and focus towards working to achieve his goal made me feel like this is someone who will know what he wants and commit to it, which also made me feel like this is someone I would definitely want to spend the rest of my life with.
What was the proposal like?
Luc and I have been dating for about six years before he finally proposed. It was really sweet as he had discussed the entire proposal plan with his family and even asked my parents permission for my hand in marriage all without my knowledge before popping the question. He made a reservation at Stellar at 1-Altitude where he managed to dupe the unsuspecting waitress into taking a scenic shot for us, only to get down on one knee to pop the question. Needless to say, the waitress and I were in shock. It was very emotional but it was perfect! The restaurant also treated us to some drinks and a cake to congratulate us.
Walk us through your pre-wedding shoot. What was it like that day and did you have fun?
We did our pre-wedding photoshoot in Abu Dhabi because Luc has recently been relocated there for work. We also wanted something different from the standard backdrops that you commonly see in pre-wedding photography. Sebastian from Loveinstills was very kind to offer to help make this happen and we are very grateful for his time and effort.
It was a very fun experience despite experiencing some challenging weather. While most couples would battle the cold or rain or snow, we were caught in sandstorms and overwhelming heat! Sebastian did an amazing job despite the challenges and also ensured that everyone was comfortable and not overly exhausted. The venue that hosted our pre-wedding shoot was also very kind in giving us buggy rides from location to location within the venue. They also provided us with locker rooms where we were able to change and store our valuables.
Initially, my husband and I were very lost and quite overwhelmed as we didn’t know what to expect or what to do. Thankfully, with Sebastian’s guidance, encouragement and support, it turned out to be a rather enjoyable! Before we knew it, it was time to pack and leave and we were able to get the footage we wanted!
What were some obstacles or funny moments you encountered during the shoot.
The funniest moment was when a little girl saw me in my dress and said to her mum “Wow, mum! How come you’re not as pretty as her?” It was hilarious! It was also quite a mission trying to climb to the top of the sand dune with such a heavy dress, then somehow balance ourselves while the wind was threatening to blow us over while sand was flying everywhere!
What was the most memorable moment of your pre-wedding shoot?
I suppose the entire experience in itself was memorable. What mattered was everyone enjoyed themselves.
Tell us about your wedding at Hotel Fort Canning
We wanted something intimate to share with close family and friends, so we decided to go with Hotel Fort Canning because it gave us a bit of a heritage feel which was very important to my husband as he grew up living in colonial black & white houses. We also wanted something relatively simple and the hotel was able to cater to most of our needs without us having to outsource to too many different vendors. Our friends and family as well as our vendors were very helpful in guiding us and making the day go smoothly. We are forever grateful for their support!
Our wedding day was perfect. The weather was good to us and our guests were very happy with the experience. All our vendors were very, very helpful. We couldn’t have asked for better. We were glad that it turned out so well and our parents were very proud of us.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
When Luc was very confident about popping that bottle of champagne but it turned out quite the opposite! The cork broke with the first bottle and it was stuck in the second bottle. Everyone had a good laugh!
