6 Surprisingly Romantic Things to Do in Genting Highlands

Need a break from wedding planning stress? Hop over to Genting Highlands for a quick recharge with your partner! Here’s a list of 6 surprisingly romantic things you can do to bring your relationship to new heights.

After tramping all over Singapore in search of your wedding venue, updating the wedding guest list for the millionth time, and getting into yet another wedding planning argument with your other half, you’d be forgiven for thinking, “I need a break!”

Wedding planning can be a very stressful time, so it’s important once in a while to set aside time to be a couple, instead of a couple with a wedding to plan. Besides date nights with no mention of anything wedding-related, why not also take a short getaway trip to bring back the romance?

We were recently invited to Resorts World Genting for a wedding showcase, and after touring Genting Highlands, we think it could make the perfect short getaway trip for couples! It boasts cool weather, shopping opportunities, and surprisingly romantic things to do together.

1.Ride a Glass-Floor Cable Car

The new Awana SkyWay cable car system is one of the most sophisticated cable car systems in Southeast Asia. It’s been designed and installed by the Italy-based Leitner, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ropeways systems, and also features automated ticketing machines for convenience. The 2.8-km-long ride starts from Awana Station, next to the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, and ends at the SkyAvenue station which connects directly to the new SkyAvenue premium lifestyle mall.

99 gondolas take passengers on a ten-minute ride to Genting Highlands’ peak, when you two can cosy up and enjoy a romantic, breath-taking view of the 130-million-year-old rainforest below. Ten of the gondolas are fitted with glass floors for an even more spectacular ride, and all of the cable cars are uniquely designed with two USB ports, so all those photos and videos of the ride won’t deplete your battery!

2.Check into a Honeymoon Suite

Upon your arrival on the cool mountaintop, pamper yourselves with a contemporary honeymoon suite stay at the newly refurbished Theme Park Hotel. Designed with a fun and fantastical vibe, with whimsical features like a giant fibre glass tower of teacups and a bank of trick mirrors, the hotel is a vibrant choice for young and modern couples.

The plush honeymoon suites overlook a private panorama of the Genting Valley, and feature beautiful bedroom and lounge room spaces furnished in a contemporary style. Neon signage and light patterns welcome you to the cosy lounge, where a clawfoot tub takes centre stage for your night of romance. A wardrobe area offers ample storage for your shopping exploits, while the separate bedroom features a king-sized bed and quirky his-and-hers vanity areas.

3.Indulge in a Romantic Parisian Tea

Get transported to the city of love with a dainty afternoon tea at Cafés Richard in SkyAvenue. Enjoy the romantic Parisian atmosphere created by the classic black-and-white mosaic floors, checkered wicker chairs, jazz music, and the delicious aroma of traditional French coffee by the top coffee roaster in France. Sit in the beautiful rose terrace overlooking SkyAvenue as you share a dainty Parisian afternoon tea. Savour their best French patisserie and desserts while you sip on specially brewed coffee or tea. Or, toast to your love with a glass of champagne or a craft coffee or tea cocktail!

4.Feast on Authentic Spanish Tapas

For a cosy evening, feel as though you’ve stepped into Barcelona at La Fiesta, a rustic and intimate restaurant designed in the traditional Catalan eatery style with tiled arches, muted lighting, and richly coloured mosaics. Along with the romantic and vibrant atmosphere, the restaurant offers a robust and flavourful Spanish menu, of which the highlight is the selection of Iberico cold cuts, served thinly sliced to enhance their intense flavours.

Start the night with a glass of sangria or cava, Spanish sparkling wine made the same as champagne, with different grapes. Savour a tantalising variety of tapas in rich, explosive flavours and sensual textures. From Calamares a la Andaluza (deep-fried calamari with garlic mayonnaise dip) to Patatas Bravas (potatoes in spiced tomato sauce), to paella served with Canadian lobster, seafood, pork and chicken, or vegetables, Spain’s signature flavours will excite your senses. End the night on a sweet note with a delectable Crema Catalana (caramelised custard cream) or Churros Rellenos (Nutella filled churros)!

5.Pamper Yourselves at the Spa

Book yourselves into M Spa, located in Genting Grand Hotel, to end the night with a blissfully relaxing massage and spa treatment. Let the highly trained and certified therapists relieve your wedding planning stress in luxurious and pampering massages. The Signature M Spa Therapeutic Massage uses essential massage techniques and medium pressure for deep relaxation, relief of stiffness, improved blood circulation, and reduced water retention. If you want a deep tissue massage, try the Signature Four Hands Massage, where two therapists work in synchronisation to deliver a luxuriously relaxing experience.

6. Breakfast with a View

In the morning, treat yourselves to a romantic breakfast on the mountain’s highest point. The award-winning restaurant e18hteen is located on the 18th floor of Maxim’s Hotel, built on Genting Highlands’ very peak. A Garden in the Sky theme runs through the hotel’s highest floor and echoes the magnificent rainforest views with greenery-covered ceilings, abundant natural light, and an indoor pool. In e18hteen, you’ll find a cosy atmosphere created by the open kitchen, beautiful botanical styling, and natural light from its full-length windows. The kitchen uses only the freshest and best ingredients from around the world, and menus are designed around the day’s best produce.

For a memorable breakfast date, pull up a table with the best seats in the house, and enjoy breakfast with an incredible view of the rolling hills and billowing clouds. Select a main from delicious choices such as the Lobster Omelette with Asparagus, Chive, and King Prawn, or the Organic Poached Egg with Foie Grass and Caviar. Complete your meal with cold cuts, cheeses, freshly baked goods, and fresh fruits from the breakfast buffet, and linger over a fragrant coffee while you enjoy the views and plan your next trip to this surprisingly romantic mountain!
