Annabel and Weijie’s Dreamy Intimate Wedding at Food For Thought, Singapore Botanic Gardens
Primary school sweethearts, Annabel and Weijie, celebrated their union at an intimate wedding at Food for Thought, Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Annabel Chen, 29, Hub Host and Wang Weijie, 29, Business Development Manager have known each other since they were 11 years old. While their relationship may not have always been smooth-sailing throughout the years, this pair of lovebirds was destined to be with one another when they reunited after a six-year parting. After close to two decades of meeting each other, Annabel and Weijie tied the knot on 28 June 2015 in an intimate wedding beautifully decorated with romantic fairylights and florals at Food For Thought, Singapore Botanic Gardens.
What was the proposal like?
Annabel:Together with my twin sister and close friends, Weijie planned a surprise proposal with involved my mini dachshund, Truffle. My friend lured me out to keep me away from Truffle while they decorated the proposal venue.
When set up was ready, my twin sister called me saying Truffle has been attacked by a large dog and is bleeding badly. They even went all the way to put fake blood on him and took photo to show me. I rushed down to the venue only to find Weijie and Truffle with a sign saying, “I am alright and Mr Right is here!” in the middle of a beautiful set-up.
Tell us about your wedding planning. How was it like? Did you meet with any challenges along the way?
Annabel: We both knew from the start that we preferred a causal intimate wedding as compared to banquet wedding. We were blessed that our parents have always been supportive of our decision. Their blessings mean the world to us and one of our greatest takeaway from our wedding planning is how close we’ve grown to our family and friends. We’ve also made new friends with Fairy’s Inc., Bloc Memoire Photography, Charmaine (our hair and makeup artist) and the Inside the Knot team.
Weijie: We were also planning and supervising our home renovation and acquiring the necessary furniture and appliances for our home while planning our wedding. So essentially, we had the two most important events for a newly wed couple happening within a space of four months!
Was there a wedding theme? If so, tell us more about your theme.
Annabel: We were into the wood-rustic feel as it gives off a homely and warm feeling, which was what we hoped our guests will feel during the wedding. I am truly amazed at how Inside the Knot had managed to transform my vision into a real life Pinterest wedding!
How was the actual day like? Did things run smoothly? How were you feeling?
Weijie: Our morning gatecrash was delayed for an hour because Annabel’s mother overslept, but things eventually worked out in the end. We were both nervous yet happy that through our wedding, we got to invite all our close relatives and friends who have seen both of us grow up since Primary school. It was just like a dream come true.
What did your family and friends have to say about your wedding?
Weijie: They feedbacked that the pace of the wedding buffet dinner was good as compared to the typical Chinese wedding banquet where the newlywed couple hardly gets a chance to chat with every single guest and is always in a rush to change or go round tables for photo-taking. There was sufficient food to go round and the free-seating arrangement allowed guests to hop from table to table.
Were there any particular moments during your wedding that were especially memorable or special to you?
Weijie: Our first dance was probably the most memorable part of our wedding. We didn’t rehearse for it and throughout the dance , we just at each other and danced along to the songs while everyone looked at us in awe.
