Joey and Travis’s Hidden Forest Outdoor Pre-Wedding Shoot
You might think it’s impossible to find a secluded forest in our little city, but Joey and Travis managed to find just that for their outdoor pre-wedding photoshoot. Sparklers and fairylights reflected the glow of their love as they adventured into a hidden part of Singapore!
Joey Low Yi Man, 28, Operation Specialist, and Travis Kok, 29, Head of Professional Training, met all the way across the world in Switzerland before deciding to tie the knot in Singapore. Read on to find out which secret spot in Singapore their fun outdoor pre-wedding shoot was held!
How did the two of you meet?
Travis: We went to the same university (and same major) in Switzerland. Joey’s first impression of me wasn’t much, I had more of a tan then and she mistook me for a Malay.
When did you realise that this was the person you wanted to marry?
Joey: Spending seven years with someone daily is definitely not easy; we have grown to depend on each other so much that we have become integral to each other’s lives. We have helped each other grow and mature to who we are today, from studying and living alone in Switzerland to being separated in two different cantons during internship. We learnt German together, graduated from school into adulthood, went into several different jobs that we had to constantly adapt to.
Travis: I knew quite early that she will be the one but it really hit me when I realised how comfortable I am coming home and seeing her living harmoniously with my family. We moved in at my parent’s place shortly after we returned from Switzerland.
What was the proposal like?
Travis: Ah… the proposal. It was supposed to happen during our triple-date Bangkok trip. Got my bros involved, restaurant booked, cake, bouquet, ring all ready. But Joey just had to spoil it (unknowingly of course) because her shopping overran and got us stuck in the notorious Bangkok traffic. Proposal postponed… For the next and successful attempt, I wanted it keep it simple and intimate, so I popped the question over my birthday dinner at our favourite restaurant.
Tell us about your outdoor pre-wedding photography session.
Travis: We did our themed wedding shoot at the present location of one of the terminals at Changi, codenamed “TM”. I got to know of it from the offroading community and frequented the site for trailing and camping trips. It was a serene forest back then, and we’re glad to have done it right before the excavators took over. Junwei from Juxtapose Pix was very open to our idea of shooting at a specific location with lots of greenery and nature, capturing the last moments of “TM”, a dreamy yet unpolished feel, my rocker alter ego, and my badass land rover. Junwei is also our photographer for the actual day of our wedding.
Joey: The whole experience was very enjoyable thanks to Junwei and our helpers. Although we did a pre-shoot recce about a week prior and marked down the GPS coordinates of suitable spots, the actual day still took a whole day. Navigation by GPS, offroad driving, shooting at different light, weather changing the look of the forest, all while trying to stay low profile. But it was really fun.
When will the wedding be, and what are your plans for it?
Travis: It will be a luncheon on 12 December 2015 at Goodwood Park Windsor ballroom. Since Joey is Teochew, my groomsmen, land rover escorts, and I have to set off from Jurong at 3am to get to Tampines on time. We had black tie attire for the banquet and free flow of wine. For a change, we went without a wedding (live) band and opted for a simple first dance.
