Designer Feature: Kelly Faetanini Fall 2016
This season, designer Kelly Faetanini takes inspiration from the feeling of mystery in the lands of the Chronicles of Narnia created by C.S. Lewis and explores the depths beyond the supernatural, creating gowns for whimsical outdoor garden weddings.
In the mind of C.S. Lewis, a supernatural marvel exists in the novel lands of Narnia. A fantasy world of royal magic and mystical beasts, where animals have a voice and the unexpected is always lingering close by. In the books, Narnia is a place with “heathery mountains and the thymy downs, Narnia of the many rivers, the plashing glens, the mossy caverns and the deep forests ringing with the hammer of the dwarfs.” This was interpreted into the Kelly Faetanini Fall 2016 collection at the New York Bridal Fashion Week.

Each gown is made with luxurious fabrics in fairy-like hues of white, rose, and champagne. Details of intricate hand-beading resemble a forestry nature of leaf-patterned appliques, glistening with ice crystals of a winter’s frost. And while structured silhouettes float with soft tulle overlays, illusions of lace climb up onto the shoulders and down the models’ backs like wild vine.
Two of the gowns also featured colour transforming solar embroidery. Indoors, the gown is in full ivory. When outdoors, sunlight hits the dress, and the gown turns into a light shade of blush, adding a nice surprise for guests. Overall, Kelly Faetanini’s Fall 2016 collection has all the refreshingly fun and cool elements for the young bride, but still retains the classic foundations to a feminine wedding dress.
