Wedding Lunch during Muslim Fasting Month

Need advice regarding about holding a wedding lunch during the Ramadan period. I'm Chinese and am planning to invite a couple of my close Muslim friends to my wedding in 2014. After checking the dates I realized my wedding falls within the fasting month.

Can I still go ahead to invite my Muslim friends then? Am worried that I may come across as being insensitive if I invite them just for them to see others eating. Can I make up to them in other ways such as preparing something special just for them?

Since you are planning for a wedding lunch, it may be a little tricky to invite your Muslim friends for the reception as their breaking fast time would normally be from 7:00pm onwards. As they have to abstain from food and drinks in totality, it may be quite a challenge for them to sit in at the banquet.

You may wish to consider having a intimate dinner at a restaurant (must be halal since its the fasting month), a week before the wedding lunch. Share with them the reason for the arrangement, and since they are your close friends, I am sure they would appreciate the gesture.

Thanks SupperZapper for your suggestion and will consider doing so.

Since my initial post I also asked one of my Muslim friends regarding about the issue and her reply was similar to what you posted. She also said to be prepared that some of them will not turn up due to fasting which I totally understand.

To add on, my ROM will be held just before the lunch hence I wanted to invite these close friends to share in my joy. Fortunately the friend whom I asked said she will still turn up.

So I guess I will do the following:
1) When sending out the invitations, I will tell them of the issue and check with them whether they can attend.
2) Have a meal with them shortly before the wedding
3) Prepare something on top of the wedding favour for them for those who attend
