Hi all,

Planning to have my honeymoon in USA during Oct. Tot of joining a travel group as we do not drive but will not like the idea of rushing from place to place. So any ideas where should we go and how to travel about?

i think it is a pretty bad idea to join a commercial tour package for places like USA. maybe you could form a small group with a few friends so that there will be some of you who can drive? that will save you a lot of money, and make your tour more enjoyable. else, the best possible plan is to look for people/companies who organize tours among young people. it is fun to explore places together with new friends.

Hi everyone,
We are also thinking of travelling to US in June... most probably going to the west coast only, and doing self drive.

Does anyone know of any good websites that we could surf, so that we could plan for the trip? Or anyone has itineraries to share?

Thks in advance...

Hi Junnie,

I will prefer to start touring the west coz got Disneyland..hehe. So wats ur recommedation for a 2 weeks trip?

For my case, only my hubby drive. So i am afraid that it will be too tedious for him to drive all the way and we are not familar with the roads in USA. But on the other hand, we will like to have a Free and Easy trip with no rushing ard. Headache men!! Wonder if there's any way out for us.

Hi Ellen,

In Orlando, there is disney world, which consist of a pleasure island, all pubs there, and there are 4 main parks namely, apcot, MGM studio, magic kingdom and animal kingdom.

There is also universal studio, adventure park, wild wild wet in orlando.

You might want to think abt it. :D

Thanks for your recommendation Moonlight.

Guess LA/LV/San Franciso is the few places to visit in West Coast. Thinking of taking up a package with travel agency and extend a few days there exploring ourselves. Any places that is easily accessible by public transport for us to explore? Can by nearby city too

you are welcome ellen! :D

i haven't been to the west, in fact, i am considering a tour on LA/LV/SF for my honeymoon, have yet to decide. I guess i love to see LV lightups. Still deciding...

for me, i would take up a packaged tour as i am lazy to plan and i don't want to stress myself up looking at the map (but it could be fun in 1 way). Just wanna follow the group. But can be rushing like what the group says, well, i can't have the best of both worlds, so have to give up either one. :p

Hi Ellen,

AD over, nov last year, but haven gone for honeymoon yet. Will be going sometime in late mar. Alot of travel agencies do not have confirmed packages yet, so i have not place any booking. Anyway, US is my 2nd priority.

If u wanna extend, and budget allow, i think it will be gd to fly to hawaii... well, thats my thoughts! :D then there would be fun in LA, sight seeing in LV, and beach stuff in Hawaii!!

Hi Ellen,

ya, relaxing now, since AD is over. My first priority is Switzerland, found a package that comes with London and France, have booked that, waiting for confirmation. If it can't be confirmed due to insufficient passenger, i will change to USA.

Hi Moonlight,

Initially i also tot of Europe but upon seeing the package, its sort of 'zuo ma kan hua'. Dun like the idea of travelling so far and yet stay in each country for 2 days. How's ur package like? Booked with which travel agency?

NATAS fair is coming soon..i will be going there to hv a look before deciding on the destination.

Hi Ellen,

i agree with what u say, thats why i chose only 3 countries and not anything more than that.

Ananda having fair this weekend and satour having fair next weekend. I will not be able to make it for Natas fair in march.

Hi Moonlight,

Your package is quite ok..2-3 countries spread over 2 weeks. Its quite ex to visit Europe now..with the high EURO. Most likely i will go USA or New Zealand for the time being.

For those visitng the West Coast...I think for SF and LV, it's pretty easy to get around without a tour guide. Of course, getting to LV would be something, but I'm sure there are coaches that'll bring you there from LA.

LV's not that big, think everything's within walking distance (along the strip). Nothing much to do, unless you gamble...can visit Coke Factory.

As for SF, it's very accessible by public transport, buses and cable cars are easy to navigate. Depending on how much you wanna do, there's the citypass about $40, which would include rides on bus and cable and admissions to I think 5 attractions. Also, from the hotels, you can book tours to Napa valley (if you're interested in wine).

I think LA's the only one that you'd need a car for, so it might be good to get a tour for that and to the Worlds, if you're interested in that. Otherwise, driving up and down CA isn't too difficult (one straight road - abt 8hrs from LA to SF) and you could deviate to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite and Grand Canyon if you like or to the factory outlet at palm springs.

For the East coast, I guess New York would be the place to start, or Florida. Depending on what you like. In New York, there are many tours that you can take in Chinatown, that'll bring you to Washingon DC, Niagara Falls/Toronto, Maine, etc etc. There are also many buses that'll bring you to Boston and other parts along the East Coast that interest you, if you don't wanna drive. Otherwise, driving isn't too difficult either (abt 5hrs to Boston, 40hrs to Florida, 12 hrs to Maine).

Guess it depends on how adventurous you are and how much homework you wanna do. Otherwise, a full package tour also can. For cities like NYC and Boston, you don't need a car to get around, it's easier without a car as parking is very expensive.

Again for these cities, there's the Citypass which you could consider. Check it out online, do a search.

hope this helps.

Hi DJ,

Thanks for your detailed intro on USA. It really helps a lot. Think i will consider getting a guided package for LA, with F&E for LV & SF since it is accessible by public transport as i dun intend to drive. Do you think its better to get a guided package through local agent or USA agency?

Hi Ellen

LA is fun, u can visit the disneyland, universal studio, six flag magic mountain and u can head to the walk of fame in Hollywood Blvd..is pretty easy to drive in LA, cos is the same as Singapore..impatient pple etc.. u can shop at Dessert Hills..over more than 200 famous brand at a good price.. As for SF, think is more of sight seeing, like fishermen wharf, golden gate bridge..i also heard that Yosemite is a very nice place.. As for SF u do not need a car as they have pretty well-developed subway station..plus SF fuel and parking are expensive and challenging cos is parallel parking.. LV.. can check out the casinos in LV, Oct is not a peak month, if possible try to stay during weekdays..cheaper. In LV u do not need a car cos everything is at the strip..just walk down the strip, but do stop by treasure island and Bellagio cos they got some great free performance.. Like i say u do not need a car unless u want to go to LV factory outlet for shopping..think is "P..."..

Hi Ellen,

I guess Junnie just reinforced what I typed...so must be quite true.

I was in SF/LA/LV/Yosemite/Grand Canyon in 99 so I don't know how things have changed since...was in SF last Oct, so I have a fresher memory on that.

Sorry, can't really advice on whether it's better to buy a package from SG or join a tour here. Firstly cos I did my own travelling and driving around, so don't really know about tours and packages on the west coast. If you had wanted info about the East coast, I'd be able to help more...

I guess it's safer to get a packaged tour from SG...since I'm not sure if the hotels in LA will have tours to Disney/Universal/Six Flags (Magic Mountian)/Knotts, etc etc...they should have, but I can't be certain.

Hi gals,

Most likely i will be going F&E to LA/LV/SF for honeymoon in Oct. Will like to seek advice how on the planning of itinerary. Which state shld i start from? Heard that i can take public transport at LV & SF..so planning only to rent a car at LA. Is this advisable?

Hi Ellen,

How many days leave do u have for your USA trip? In LA which place of interest u would like to go? Like Disneyland, universal studio, six flag magic mountain, hollowood walk of fame etc.. if all these are Yes..you need about 5 to 6 days in LA, as for LV u need around 2 to 3days, unless you and hubby likes to gamble then maybe longer, as for SF you nees about 4 to 5 days, cos u want to visit the nappa valley for wine tasting..
As for transport, yes SF has pretty well developed train station but to go to nappa valley think you need a car, as for LV.. if u just want to hang out only at the strip then u dont need car unless you decide to travel out of the strip.. and are u guys ready for western food thru out the whole trip? Cos usually for authntic chinese food u need a car to travel..

Hi Junnie,

We are planning to take 2 weeks of leave (estimate will be 12 days for the trip - need 2 days to recharge and adjust my body clock).

Guess my answer is YES to all the places that you stated in LA. And i will like to shop at the factory outlets too. We are not that into gambling..so will possibly spend 3 days to explore. U mean there are none chinese food being served at LV? This will be a problem for me and hubby as we dun usually eat western food.

For SF, we will most probably explore on public transport using City Pass..if i am not wrong. Plan to spend another 4 days here.

So wats ur advise on the planning of itinerary?

Dear all,

Me and my hubby is planning to go to US for honeymoon some time this end oct for 2 weeks. Thinking of visiting LA, Las Vagas and San Fransciso. We are thinking of 2 weeks and free and easy coz i have been to US with my parents 5-6yrs back and also free n easy.

However the tickets for SQ to LA and back from San Fran is about $1900 for 1 if 2 to travel. But SQ got a current promo but it is for 4 to travel, meaning 4 pp need to travel on the same travel dates and it is only $1200 per person if 4 to go...we are thinking of finding another couple who is keen to go these places n see if our dates can fit and it is good for the 4 of us coz it is only $1200 each instead of $1900...we are flexible on our dates of travel as long as it is abt 3rd or 4th week of oct n b4 the school hols...looking at 2weeks. Anyone interested in sharing with us, pls pls email me at [email protected]. It is urgent as we r thinking of booking soon. Tks

Heard that it may not be suitable to visit Grand Canyon in Oct (closed due to cold weather or sth). Is that true?

Hi 10Q,
Nope, Grand Canyon is open 365 days a year. However, I think the North Rim visitor facilities is closed on 22 Oct ( 1 day)

Oct is not winter yet, so no worries, it is very unlikely that there would be bad weather. In fact, the first snow usually comes around mid-end Nov.

the south rim of grand canyon is open yr round. the north rim is closed from late autumn till mid-spring. during this period, it's only opened to cross country skiers.

Hmm,
I read on the official site that the North Rim's visitor services and facilities will be closed from mid-oct, but it is still open for day use only. ( dependent on weather conditions)
