hi gals
came back from my honeymoon in Tasmania!
Tassie is a very lovely place, fantastic for honeymoon. the people there are really friendly and very nice!
we didn't drive in tassie as my hubby just got his license and tassie is very mountainous
just to share our itinerary in case you are interested to visit tassie. We did F&E.
from melbourne, take connecting flight to hobart
1st Day
- visit Cadbury Chocolate Factory, can take their metro public bus from Hobart city - 45 min journey. Or you can take their cruise tour.
evening explore sandy bay. we stayed at a very lovely B&B at sandy bay! 94AUD per nite, big room with ensuite and breakfast. It's a cottage, my host knew that we were on HM and went the extra mile to make our stay memorable with wine, chocolates and sweets, complimentary.
- evening, franklin wharf and constitution dock for the sunset
2nd Day
- full day at Port Arthur, if you like history, you will like this place for the convicts. lovely scenery. Visited the Bushmill Settlement to take the steam railway, and also Devils Kitchen, Eaglehawk neck and Blowhole and Barilla Bay Oyster Factory. We joined Exp Tas for this tour and the tour guide cum driver was very funny and yeah, it was a great day for us, managed to interact with other tourists from england and other parts of aussie.
Day 3
- Battery Point, Rosny Lookout, Cascade Brewery, Female Factory cum Fudge Factory.
- afternoon went to Bonorong wildlife park.
- evening, went Wrest Point Casino.
Day 4
- took a local tour. 3 hrs drive to East coast, visited Swansea, very lovely quiet town.
- wineglass bay, the hazards at freycinet national park. we embarked on the 4 hours trekking. it was very tiring for me as i am not a very outdoor person but the scenery is simply breathtaking!
- stopped at Kate's Berry Farm along the way. A must stop if you are at Tassie! great ice cream and jams and berries! She's a very nice lady.
Day 5
- Salamanca Market , but just be careful, although the brochures said it's from 8.30am til 3pm. but by 12plus and 1pm, about 60% of teh stalls were starting to pack up. so come early! bought a lot of things there!!
- spent the whole afternoon shopping at their city area.
Day 6
- Royal Tasmania Botanical Gardens. Must See during Sept and Oct! although their tulips fest just ended when we arrived, but the tulips were still in full bloom in the botanic gardens! lovely! yellow, purple, pink, red, orange and white! beautiful! you will feel like you are in Holland!
- afternoon, went to Sorell , another small town very near hobart and visited a fruit farm. Sorell Fruit Farm.
- Then spent the aftern at Richmond, very very lovely and historic town, abt 20 mins away from Hobart.
abit pity, didn't manage to go up Mt Welllington, cos it was snowing on the mountains and it was very very cold. the average temperature last week for tassie was about 7-12degree when we were there. the wind is very chilly. and some days it was drizzling.
i think if you are driving, you would definitely more chance to vist more places, e.g. Bicheno and St Helens which i read from the brochures, these places seem very beautiful. You can stay bed & breadkfast all the way in tassie, if you are not on tight budget, 90AUD p/n will get you a good cottage room with ensuite and breakfast.
and most accept credit cards
oh yeah, change all your $$ in spore first, the rates are horrible over there. it was 1.17 in spore but it was 1.28 - 1.35 in tassie. not worth it.
for meals, if you like chocolate, you will go crazy like me. i was like on a chocolate-wine-ice cream diet during my stay in tassie!
they got great seafood, try barilla bay oysters, we went to Frenzy Fish and Mures at their waterfront for their fish and chips and scallops!
for wine, must go for their strawberry and rashpberry wine!
for ice cream it will sticky fingers ice cream parlor in hobart and Kate's Berry Ice Cream in Swansea.
great scones at most of their bakery and they serve with cream and fruit jams.
we also had good chinese food along sandy bay.
okie dokie, sorry for the long winded email. think this is my longest postings! =). kekeke. too eager to share my tassie honeymoon. only stayed for 1 week but throughly enjoyed it. we stopover at sydney for another 5 days. But sydney is very much a city, i definitely preferred Tassie! really hope to trek in Cradle Mountain and visit St Helens, Strahan, Lauceston next time! meanwhile, it's back to reality for me!
