Hi grac, website for Customs House Hotel here: http://www.customshousehotel.com/ Can book thru email, that's what I did.

Just to remind: no elevator + narrow staircase = hard to lug up big luggage, + live entertainment below from Thu nite to Sun. I like the accomodation though, cos was newly renovated when I went, and the location is great.

Daytours I pretty much cover in the links posted previously. Anything you wanna search, do it in Yahoo! Australia site, you will find it faster.

Don't miss Salamanca Market!

Hi littleMay,

Wineglass Bay Lookout is a steep CLIMB. Although not on 4, can be tiring. Tough foe someone who never execrise in Singapore. I met an old foreign couple who still make it up at the slower pace. =)

Hi diamond,
For a 11-day self-drive, I did it at abt S$2.5K
Dun miss Salamanca Market at Hobart held every sat only.

Hi diamond,

The price include everything from flight, tax, souvenirs, foods & drinks, accommodation, transport and admission tickets.

blue ginger, when did you go tasmania & which airline did you fly with? the cheapest flight i can find online is $1.8k (incl airport taxes of abt S$300). car rental for a small car is about A$39 per day. accomodation is abt A$100/day and some places like cradle mountain will cost even more. SO, how did you did it with S$2.5k PAX for 11 days?.

I flew in Quantas & Jetstar. Some of my friends flew on virginblue (think it is cheaper). Car is abt the same. Mine is lower (I booked online) Accommodation during low-peak is abt cheaper. Most of the place we stayed is abt $50-$80 for 2. We book the accommodation a day before we reached our pit-stop or just walk-in. Sometimes, they will give you a bigger room for the same rate in low peak season.

Food: we din go for wine cos we dun take them.

babyshannon,
I went last OCT, but expenditure is more or less the same.
R you there on F&E or Singapore tour or Tasmania local tour?
8-9 days include flight time or onland?
I spent abt 2.5K (one person) for F&E during low-peak.
Dec is peak season so might expect something like $3K for F&E

Hi Blue Ginger,

I intend to go there during this Dec for 8 to 9 days.
I heard that the airport tax is about $400 per person nw.
How much is your air ticket??

Sorry for the late reply.
My air ticket was S$1,100 included fuel surcharge and tax. If I din forget fuel surcharge and tax is abt $300 plus then, but the flight was cheaper. Australia and New Zealand tax are super high.

Hi Blue Ginger,

Thanks for your reply. I checked with the travel agency and was quoted about $1350 per person for the air ticket (include surcharge).Just wondering is it cheaper to buy the tix myself then from travel agency.
My husband n I decided to push the tour to early Jan 07 for about 10 days. We will be driving by ourselves. Wanted very much to see the lavendar farm after reading the review in the forum..

We bought the ticket from tour agency too. No online promotion from airline then. But our internal flight waiting time is long, hence tire when we reach tassie.
You will see Lavendar in Jan. That's a full-bloom season. Dec no guarantee.

Hi milo66,
Depends on what kinda room you preferred! Can go down to A$50/room/night for Youth hostel. Very clean and nice room. If you are talking abt hotel, usu cost more. B&B would cost abt A$150 depends on locations.

Hi milo66

I just came back from a trip to Mel & Tassie(Hobart) recently. I would recommend Battery Point Manor(B&B), cosy & nice stay. Great view too. Paid A$125 per room night stay with daily buffet breakfast, the room is huge too with bathe tub. ;)

My friend took SQ from LCT Airport back. But I think it is a very rare case.

You need to took domestic. Suggest you took to Hobart. Cos Hobart is more fun than Launcester.

Dear all, I need some help. I'm planning to go Tasmania & Cairns for my honeymoon on last week of Sept for 8days + 5days resepctively. Hmm is it to go Tasmania before i go Cairns or after I go Cairns? Anyone could advise on the weather and season during this period of time? Or is it more advisable to go in 1st week of Oct? Thank you!

Hi, this might sound irrelevant to the thread, but im considering between Tasmania and New Zealand for honeymoon trip, so just wondering if anyone has been to both places, and which one would be a better choice? Also, will driving in Tasmania be difficult? I'm not too good with driving, and have seen that it's possible to do a car-free trip (albeit it being more troublesome)

I've never been to New Zealand so can't compare but what I can share is that driving in Tasmania is relatively alright if you can handle the Singapore traffic. In city areas like Hobart and Launceston, the traffic can get pretty heavy similar to Singapore's. In the towns, there are lesser cars, sometimes even none. Driving inter-town can be a little dangerous if you're doing it after sun set since there is no street lamps and the roads do not have curbs (if you fall into a ditch, then you're probably stuck till the next morning when the tower starts work).

Hi! I'd vote for Tasmania again! I just came back from leisure trip 3 months back and im still missing every inch of Tasmania. Everything there is good! The weather, people, food and even accommodation is good! Driving wise dont have to worry, traffic wise are less congested as compared to Singapore even for their cities like Hobart, plus the road signs are also similar. And i agree with Aj.tan, you really have to plan your itinerary well to avoid driving in the night. Especially if Mount Wellington is part of your itinerary cos the road are narrow and steep with no road lamps too.
