i would take the first train in and the last train out... in-between i'm not sure how much time it allows u... but i must admit it feels strange just to go and see taroko... the nite is pretty serene and nothing much else to do except streetfood, tat's why i was wishing i was back in taipei! hehe

Anyone has an idea what time Wu Fen Pu closes?

Can someone advise how i can get from Taipei to Jiufen, keelung and Shifen? By bus?

Keelung is only for roadside snacks?

Keelung have any roadside snack???

Anyway, there is no direct train to Jiufen. You can get to keelung by bus and transfer another bus to jiufen.

As for Shifen, have to train to a place and transfer to the shifen train. Cannot remember which train stn. Pls check at Taipei train station the train schedule and the train stn to shifen. The shifen train have limited timeslot.

Thanks for the infor.
Err, i mean Miaokou at Keelung where they sell snacks.
Is that the only/main attraction in Keelung? My schedule is abit tight and i am wondering if i should try to squeeze in Keelung.

u can try rainbow, to me it's the best! it's nothing to shout abt for room, very melaka-ish, abit like a motel... but it'ssmack in the middle of XiMenDing... u wake up, get out and it's shopping area! at nite u can wind down at a XinYao cafe nearby, then head back with a nice feeling.

Hi all,

i know this forum since to be for honeymooners but can't resist to post my question here...so pls if any1 can pls advice....

me going taiwan for 7day in june14 2007 with dynasty travel.....1 of the things i need advice is the tipping and gratuities which is to tip local guide and driver NT100 per passenger (applicable to children 2 years and above also) daily.....my family of 3adults and 2 children is going........so is it a must to tip, especially giving tip from children....i do find it not right as tipping should be volunteer.....

any kindly advice......txs txs txs

but then again, its only NT100. why not if the guide is good.

Long ago, in 1986, we actually tip the tour guide $10 per pax, our tour group is about 30+ pple so total came up to $350. He was a really good tour guide & was entertaining almost 24x7. as in unless the group is tired out, he'll be cracking jokes for 3 hrs non-stop etc....

the guide was so touched by our tip. in fact, he told us that our tip is actually more than his monthly salary.

I was a really young boy then, but it teached me the importance of tipping good service. Something which we as SGians usually do not do if we can avoid.

anyway, it was my 1st trip abroad. back then taiwan was still relatively poor for most of their pple. in the "xiao ren gou", there's a lady in-charge of children rides, she was like late 30s. somehow we end up chatting. she told us tht even if she worked till she's dead, she'll nvr hv the money to buy air tickets. I remember she took care of me quite well in the park, dun remember why tht park hv care-takers then.. coz they dun hv nowadays. so my parents tipped her $2. she was really happy.

Hi Idono

"but then again, its only NT100. why not if the guide is good"

it is not only NT100, the total tipping while be:

3 adults X NT100 X 7days = 2100
2 child X NT100 X 7days = 1400
total tipping = NT3500 or abt SGD175

so tip or not???

is it a MUST to tip?

I know that some agency put this as a MUST thingy.

If is a MUST, then you have no choice.

BTW, i thought tipping is onli at the end of the trip?

Hi WongYY

is it MUST tip is the question i am posting about here, as it is one of the items stated in the information listing given to us.

yes.the tip is @ the end and it will cost me SGD175 (which mostly u wan to put aside first away from ur others spending)

dweezil88,

i tink wad YY meant is that if ur agency put it as a must to tip den u haf to tip. For this, u can check with ur agency. Summtyms we r left wif no choice. But from wad u mention, i believe dat the tip is mandatory since it is stated in the information listing.

Hi All,
Seeking some opinion.. comparing Caesar Park Hotel vs San Want Hotel vs Sunworld Dynasty...which is better. I am gg to Taiwan after my wedding in Oct for a short trip of 5days..

Also, anyone stayed in Spring City resort before? Worth staying there a nite?

Hi babymummy,

the weather in taiwan for Jan is quite cold, may be less than 10 degee. I went there last year and we celebrated the New year day there, it was freezing cold, because our tour guide say that is the peak of their winter...

But Feb time should be ok and cooling ...

The best month to shop in Taiwan is end September or early October. This is the period where they are having sales on their clothings before they switch to the autumn wear.
Must go wu fen pu... and if u are orangebear or mayuki fan, can shop there as well!

Have fun..

Don't find taiwan clothings cheap. If you are going for branded stuff, confirmed mostly not cheap.

CNY, typically they don't open. But it is just as a general guide.... you might come across a few shops that opens. There's no rule to it.

If you wanna go CNY, suggest go from CNY 10th day onwards. Why? Becoz CNY 15th day is a big occasion.
