hi star,

the china town area is good. they are near the attractions, walking distance to darling harbor, and there's a tram that takes you to the opera house. plus there's life at night! hehe... it is also near the train station where alot of day trips leave from.

whatever it is, do not stay at Kings Cross area. its scarry at night. i'm serious. i've stayed there before in a reputable hotel but the area around it is just not good.

Hi,

may I know how much time is needed for shopping at Birkenhead Point?

Also how long is the journey time from Sydney Airport to town area?

Thanks.

hi tobebride,

I think birkenhead point isn't that big though bigger than the one in homebush. So I reckon you can easily finished your shopping in a couple of hours

the journey from the airport to the city is about 1/2hr.

Hi tobebride,

Personally I prefer DFO in homebush to Birkenhead Pt... I find the stuff in DFO newer and more modern

I can spend all afternoon in DFO while only max 2hrs in Birkenhead. That's just my opinion ;)

Hi pageup and catura,

may I know is DFO far from the city? How long is the journey there by public transport?

Also, is there any difference between the DFO in Sydney and Melbourne? Is the one in Melbourne easily accessible by public transport?

Thanks.

hi tobebride,

I don't think DFO homebush is easily accessible by public transport. I think you have to walk for about 1/2 hr from the train station.

Hi pageup,

I read that we can take the train to Strathfield Station and catch bus 525 and get off at the last bus stop in Underwood Road.

However, I do not know if the bus stop in Underwood Road is far from DFO.

Also, I don know how long is the train and bus ride.

Think the Qantas offer is thru their e-ticket only. Call Qantas and they should be able to help - the fare is S$598 per pax I think.

hi,

has anyone gone for bridge climbing (harbour bridge)? i plan to go to sydney in sep. i am wondering if the bridge climb is worth the $$$ or it's just a tourist thing that need not be done if there's no time.

hi Millie

I did the bridge climb on my second trip to Sydney! The first time i was there, I figured that it was a waste of money (even though it was much cheaper then!). But when I went there with my husband in March this year, he was keen on doing it so I joined him.

My opinion changed after that. The whole process was a fun experience. It's not just about seeing the sights, but about finding your way up (guided, of course) and it's a good way to learn more abt the bridge and Sydney with the live commentary.

If you are in Sydney, definitely go to the Fish Market... you'll realise that it was part of Finding Nemo. If you're keen on shopping, go to Birkenhead Point by ferry from the Harbour itself. Birkenhead is a factory outlet mall. Good buys generally.

Enjoy Sydney! I was there on my honeymoon and even though I got sick on the first day, I thorougly enjoyed it!

i soo excited! Will be visiting Syney and Melbourne for my honeymoon next Friday! Can someone tell me the weather there now?

I notice comments about the cheapest nougant in chinatown back in April 2003. Can someone confirm if this information is still valid?

I only have a half day free and easy. I wonder what should i make full use of it? I heard that i will be staying at four star hotel in Syney, but will only get to know the hotel 4days before departure. Any idea, which hotel SA tour will book you in?

I also heard that strawberries are in season. Might be getting a ton back to Singapore! ;-P

My husband likes casinos! He would like to visit one of the grand ones. Any idea, if there is any good ones near the town?

Hi, I have a question. Is it easy to do self-drive to Blue Mountain from Sydney or just stick to the public transport? thanks

Hi Go KS,
i studied in Sydney for 2 years recently. drove up to blue mountains 4 times. its really safe and straight road. only 1h 15mins at most from Sydney city. suggest u drive as you can see more, taking public transport - train would mean lots of walking when u get to Blue Mountains which is not that easy. if you are into trekking/bushwalking, u can check out some of the walks beforehand, as the 'touristic' areas are not so interesting. which mth are you going? it gets dark by 4.30pm in winter june-aug, hope this helps.
There are some other beautiful places I wld recommend if you want,

Hi all,

I am planning to go to Sydney in Nov. Problem is that I am bringing my 18mths old gal. I need to bring her along cos nobody can help to take care of her and I have always wanted to visit Sydney. I like Australia! Have visited Melbourne and Gold coast few yrs back and really like both places!

Have read alot of comments in this thread and gather that Sydney is very much like S'pore. But I still hope to visit this place.

My plans in Sydney is to stay 1 nite at Blue Mountain and probably 1 N at Hunter Valley(still deciding cos I dun koe will it be very boring there)Explore the city and outskirt. At first, I thought of driving during my stay in Sydney. But gather tat driving in the city is not advisable cos of the traffic and parking is expensive (troublesome too)

So now, my alternatives is to spend 2-3 days exploring the city area by taking public transport. And rent a car on the 4th day (for 2-3 days) to explore the rest of Syndey (eg. bondi, manly beach, Blue mountain, hunter valley, ect...)

My hubby is actually not very keen to travel with my 18mth old gal to Sydney....He thinks that we shd bring her for our travelling trips when she is older. So he prefer tat the 2 of us went alone to Krabi, Phuket or some beach resort to relax for 3-4 days. Cos my mil can only help to take care of my daughter for 2-3N due to health reason. But I am more adventerous...like travelling alot and I like to self plan... I plan our honeymoon trip to NZ 2 yrs back. At first he was quite hesitant too bcos of the driving and other issues. He feels stress cos he like well planned things. But I find that travelling is alll abt free & easy and ENJOY! But we enjoy ourselves tremendously and we never regret going!

Unfortunately cannot do it often before giving birth due to $$$ issue...(cos travelling is expensive). And haiz....before I koe it, I have given birth... But I do not wan to be deterred by the fact tat I have a baby girl. I want to bring her along and enjoy ourselves as a family!

So can anybody who has stayed in Sydney before or travel to Sydney with young children/toddler before kindly provide some advice regarding any issues, from accomodation, travelling, visting sites so that I can plan my trip and assure my hubby that we will have a great trip to Sydney.

Many thanks to any who can help!
