Swissotel The Stamford

Went for food tasting today. Overall still ok, I was expecting worse after reading the not so good comments. But the chicken was too salty and dry, and the steamed black grouper was tough. We asked the chef to change the chicken to herbal chicken, and the fish to cod in teriyaki sauce. Anyone got comment on these 2 dishes?

Hi All,

I booked my banquet with STS in Feb this yr. My AD is in Oct 2010. Just wondering, how many months in advance should we go to STS and have tasting of food, discussion of floral arrangements, wine selection and cards printing? Also, my coordinator is Dennis. Just wondering, would they call and remind you or?

Thanks for the advice!

Hi Everyone

Just had my AD on 20 Dec. Hubby and I have glowing positive comments about STS.

1. Sales Manager (Dannis Yeo):

Dannis Yeo was excellent. He accommodated a lot of our requests, was always very ready to help, and was so prompt in responding to all our emails. He would always try his best to give us as good a deal as possible, and always had suggestions for how we could stretch our dollar as far as possible, instead of spending on unnecessary upgrades (even if we were the ones to suggest the upgrades in the first place).

2. Ballroom:

We used the Padang and Collyer Ballrooms and the setup was very grand. The ballroooms have high ceiling and are pillarless. We purchased confetti cannons which our guests fired off during our second march in, and also had the guests ring the bells which we had chosen as wedding favours. Due to the high ceiling of the ballrooms, the confetti cannons produced a really spectacular effect.

3. Suite:

Our 64th floor Crest suite was fabulous. The living area was very large and the view from the balcony superb. If you draw back the foldable wooden window shades, you can take in the view while soaking in the bathtub.

4. Service

Service was prompt and responsive and cheerful throughout. Apart from Dannis, we were served very efficiently by our wedding butler Fandi. He wasn't too intrusive and enabled us to enjoy ourselves without bothering us unnecessarily. The Crest Suite staff were very helpful. We were up late the morning after the wedding dinner and the breakfast buffet at the Crest Lounge had already been dismantled. However, the Crest Staff offered us a complimentary American breakfast which was delivered to our rooms. The Crest staff attended to all our little requests e.g. we needed more envelopes to store Ang Pow money after we had counted our Ang Pows.

All in all, we highly recommend STS! We also think that Impact florist did a wonderful job with the floral decor in the ballroom.

RKYL, I saw your ballroom set up, it looked wonderful.

I hope you had a great wedding

Michelle, you still have plenty of time. Depending on what your wedding timeline is, I suggest you can call up Jasvy (printers) and the florist about 3 - 4 months in advance to sort out your floral decor and invitation cards. I called Dannis to arrange food tasting and talk about the table cloth colour etc, but he also will call you to remind you as the date draws closer.

Hi Guys,

Just wondering, I am having my wedding at Canning room while I have checked with STS that the other two rooms, Padang and Collyer are already taken. May I know were the rooms sound-proofed. Really afraid that the other 2 ballrooms would make lots of noise which could be heard from my ballroom.

Secondly, would it be a mess at the reception table for the guests as there will be 3 weddings held at the same time.

Thanks!

Hi Michelle..

Not to worry about noise level.. As minimal noise can be heard.. except during Yamseng toasting which could be loud at times.. its only 3 yamseng onli..

it would not be messy at reception as i believe e hotel will have ushers standby to assist guest.. so guest will be at e correct ballroom..

Canning room is ok. I had my wedding in canning room. They have a divider at the reception and in the ballroom. So not to worry. But you have to take note of the wedding favours for VIP table. For mine, they actually missed out those wedding favours for mega top table.

Hi to all BTB of STS.

So far I have not go down to meet Dannis, the coordinator. n i most likely will chose STS to hold my AD.

I noted they do not include some of the basic things in e package, like: free 30 ltr of beer, LCD projector, complimentary night etc. These will only free to you if you have more tables...

wondering if we could request/bargain with them on these? r they flexible enough to meet your request?

thanks for sharing in advance.

Hi, If your taking any of the rooms associated with the Raffles Ballroom and Stamford ballroom, it is pillarless, and the height is quite good... depends on your interpretation of high ceiling i guess

hi rui yi,
actually you could just pop in to swissotel to view the ballrooms at your own time (have to make sure not to get in the way of any on-going events though)...i believe your actual presence in the ballroom will be more convincing than photos

Fairmont/Swissotel does not serve sharkfin right? Are you girls ok with it?

Those who held weddings already, did any guests complain?

Hi Sharon, I got Wendy Lou as my coordinator too. Previously was another colleague who left the org. So far I had very pleasant experience with Wendy. She was more willing to cater to what we need. Very open for negotiation, provided your needs/suggestion is practical and possible. She is also very prompt e.g. when you call or email her for queries or for arrangements

Claudia, yes, they do serve vegetarian food.

I need some comments on their vegetarian and muslim meals too! Cos I have quite a number of guests requiring veg and halal meals. Anyone can share?

I heard that there will be a renovation going on for Raffles ballroom this coming July. Does anybody knows the details of that? Or has the renovation been completed. My AD is end of this year at Canning ballroom. Just wondering how the ballroom would look like after the renovation.. hoping it will be nicer!

Dilemma

Atrium ballroom has low ceiling, but private foyer whereas Canning/Padang/Collyer ballrooms have high ceiling (very grand) but foyer (partitioned) where the reception table will be is very open, if more than 2 weddings going on same night, guests may be confused. What's your take?

Went to view the place last Sat, and there was 2 grooms having the same name "Daniel Loh" getting married, one at Stamford and the other at Canning, at first I tot it's the same couple, then I realised diff brides' names (although both bride surname is Tay).

hi thomas and susan, i've forwarded the package details to u.

susan, we've confirmed stamford ballroom for our wedding in Nov 2011. meeting wendy to sign the contract this wed. basically she's open to our request and actually we don't have that many additional things to negotiate on. for beer/wine, very limited room for negotiation as they are pretty strict.

I think Swissotel the Stamford has the best wedding package for DIVERS like myself & my H-T-B! ^.^
*Their Strictly no Shark Fins policy helps the world balance the marine eco-system so we really have nothing to lose as the Shark fins are replaced by Braised Lobster Soup with 3 treasures. An even better deal isn't it?!*
Btw, readers on this thread should check out the POSTs on Fairmont Hotel too coz it's the same ballrooms they are offering ;)

Hi,

Have booked Swissotel thru their wedding show held on 5th Sept 2010. My wedding is on 20 Nov 2011. Was told by them that they will be contacting us 2 months prior to our wedding to start the preparation. Is 2 months too short? Any idea wat is the norm?

estaefran

Member
hi shanqi, our wedding is one day before you. =)

according to the wedding checklist fr e small raffles romance folder, preparation starts 2 months before for wedding card printing, review guest lists, arrange for food tasting etc.

i think there's no harm in contacting ur coordinator and start the preparation earlier. our coordinator told us that we can simply contact her whenever necessary. =)

Hi Esther, congrats ya.. =) So 2 months is the norm for Swissotel.. so yours will be at which ballroom? Mine will b at Padang. On the same day, there will be 2 more wedding held at Canning & Collyer. Wonder how messy will the foyer be.....

wah... 3 weddings at the same area, gonna be very joyous. =) i understand there will be ushers deployed to direct the guests and also partition setup at the reception area to minimize confusion.

ours will be at stamford ballroom. was eyeing canning initially due to the high ceiling. then again, my fiance was concern about e odd shape layout and also lack of multiple big screens.

hope wont have blur blur guests walking to the wrong ballroom especially those long time no c relatives.. haha..

there is a myth tat one should walk down a straight red carpet.. think to represent a smooth journey ahead ba..
