Hi Gals, I went down to marina today. Looking at the Serta Alabama. It's $2,999 (king size) + $300 (bed frame). Anyone bought this? Any comments?

For those who bought serta mattress what are the items to bargain for? Can share your experience with me?

Thanks.

Alabama is nice to sleep on, u can get BEST price at ackerman at toa payoh including bed frame/bench. the sales person best lee was nice to caution my husband "in future when your wife is pregnant, having a soft mattress is not suitable for her." he recommended a firmer mattress for back support and easy to get out of bed ;->

been to ackerman and don't like the sales person. felt that he's only too eager and pushy to close a deal and kept asking what's our budget. did not demonstrate any mattresses' know-how and not very honest. for e.g. we knew serta is having a promotion which comes with bed frame, 2 pillows, 1 mattress protector and a bench. but he only mentioned 2 pillows. on the other hand, staff from robinson at both centrepoint and raffles branch provided us more insight to the makings of the mattresses and are more concerned with finding the right comfortable mattress for us.

I just ordered for a backcare 4 King at $3250 & Backcare 3 Queen at $2450, from ackerman. No freebies. No delivery done yet.

If anyone interested to take over this transaction let me know, coz i'm looking at S1000 or S3000 now. But too bad Ackerman does not carry these series. Bought the above in an impulse, since price is much better than elsewhere.

Just sms me which model you interested in.

Thanks.

Hi all!

I would like to share my mattress testing experience in the past 3 weeks. I have been trying out Simmons Backcare Advance S1000 and S3000. These 2 models are only available in the Simmons Boutique.

S1000 model cost $3974 (Current promo has got another $200 off) Comparing other Simmons Model of the same league (ie. around $3k-$4k) I still find S1000 most suitable for me.

This model wraps my body up and I feel that it gives more support esp on my back. As a light-weight person, I find S1000 most suitable for me as this is the only model from Simmons that really give me the best support ( I have tried in most of the boutiques in Sg). For once, I feel that the coils are more responsive to my body weight and shape. On the other hand, the S3000 is just too 'plush' for me. S3000 cost about $5000. The main differece between S1000 and S5000 is the 'plush' feeling or u may describe it as 'floating on clouds'. Thus I find S3000 too soft to my liking. My FH who has been shopping for mattresses with me also liked the S1000 as he also felt the same support from the coils in the mattress.

My FH also had tried to lift the Simmons mattress and it is alot heavier than other brands like Serta and Sealy. Therefore we assume that the make of the mattress is also better. Also, my FH said that the technology to make the coils in Simmons are more complicated and expensive compared to other brands (technical stuffs that men usually notice).

I have also tried the top of the range model by Serta (cannot remember the model, but it's about $3.4k). The feeling it gave me was also too plush and not enough support esp on the spine. The internal coils are also not responsive to my body shape. Like Sealy, when my FH tosses around the bed, I could feel the 'vibrations' ,'bouncing' ,'ripples' effect. This effect is the worst in Sealy. When ur partner moves in bed when sleeping, 70% of the time, u will also follow. Most Simmons mattresses do not have this problem.

Overall,if u look close enough the make and quality of Simmons and Sealy mattresses are comparatively better than Serta. In fact, Sealy's mattress quality is the best. Of cos this is just the external cosmetic part.

In summary, I think the most important things to note are:

1) Always try the mattress by LYING down (Don't be shy, don't just sit!! LIE DOWN!)

2) Always go lie on the mattress with your partner

3) Try buy the mattress that has the same feel as your current mattress but STILL gives u the best support esp on ur back.

4) On the above, come to a compromise with ur partner on which mattress to buy.

5) Do not 'give in' to the 'plush' feeling (i.e the additional pillow top of the mattress- thicker=more plush) - This creates a 'comfortable feeling' giving a false perception of back support.
6) Stay focused on the support and responsiveness of the coils not the 'plush' feeling

7) Toss around as much as possible with ur partner on the mattress.

8) Lie on your side and back. Feel the support.

9) Lift up ur legs up and down in the air when lying down and place ur hands at the back to feel the support from the coils/springs (Lousy mattresses will not comform to the shape and position)

10) DO not be shy to lie longer or even return to the same model u prefer to try again

Have fun!

Just my 2 cents worth of thoughts!

Cheers!
Samantha

if anyone is interested in getting sealy or serta mattresses, can email me for the contact..
i managed to find a lobang that can offer up to 30% off the discounted prices at the stores

they will need to know the model, freebies & price you found.
they need about 1-3 working days to get back to you on the price, upon confirmation pay a deposit of $200 and delivery can be arranged in 2 days (if stocks available)

i ordered the perfect day that taka was selling @ $6.2K after discount and got it at only $4.8k
with the same free gifts:
- 2 x sheep
- 2 x serta pillowcases
- 1 x serta fitted bedsheet
- 1 x serta fitted mattress protector
- 2 x serta pillows

and they delivered it in a serta van too.. like the sheep ;)

Study: Tempur-Pedic (R) Helped Pregnant Women Sleep More Comfortably
Here's the Tempur-Pedic (R) press release on their recent study on the effectiveness of the Tempur-Pedic (R) mattresses for making pregnant women more comfortable:

"Tempur-Pedic (R) Swedish Sleep Systems(R)Provide Relief to Pregnant Women

Wednesday June 21, 4:00 pm ET

Study Participants Report More Quality Sleep, Less Discomfort

LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2006--Tempur-Pedic (R) International Inc. , the leading worldwide manufacturer, marketer and distributor of mattresses and pillows in the viscoelastic and premium categories, today announced that pregnant women who slept on a Tempur-Pedic (R) Swedish Mattress(TM) fell asleep faster, slept longer and felt more rested in the morning compared to traditional innerspring mattresses, according to a recent study conducted by Preston-Osborne Marketing Communications and Research for Tempur-Pedic (R) International, Inc. The women also reported that after sleeping on The DeluxeBed by Tempur-Pedic(TM) , they experienced less discomfort while lying down to sleep and felt less daytime drowsiness.

Significant Findings:

Ninety-five percent of the study participants reported improved sleep on The DeluxeBed by Tempur-Pedic.

Seventy-five percent of women reported falling asleep in 30 minutes or less while sleeping on The DeluxeBed by Tempur-Pedic (R) (up from only 40 percent on the traditional innerspring mattress).

The average number of hours slept increased from 6.25 hours to 7.15 hours.

Ninety-five percent of the women reported feeling more rested in the morning from sleeping on The DeluxeBed by Tempur-Pedic (R) versus their innerspring mattress.

Nine out of ten participants would recommend Tempur-Pedic (R) to friends and family, whether they were pregnant or not.

The women who participated in the study were entering or near the beginning of their third trimester and slept on innerspring mattresses prior to the study. The women were 40 years of age or younger, had experienced sleep discomfort due to pregnancy and were not considered by their physicians to be at significant high-risk for pre-term labor. They kept sleep journals detailing the effectiveness of the mattress in aiding onset to sleep and sleep comfort. "Tempur-Pedic (R) provided the women in the study with much-needed rest and relief during a time when many women feel that comfort and sleep are elusive luxuries," said Dany Sfeir, senior vice president of marketing. "The body-conforming support of our proprietary TEMPUR® material experienced by these women can provide any consumer with an enhanced sleep experience."

Tempur-Pedic (R) beds are temperature sensitive, breathable and viscoelastic. These properties enable this material to remain firm where needed and soft where desired, creating a custom fit for each individual. Through the use of weight and heat to distribute pressure over the entire surface, the bed automatically adjusts to body size and provides body-contouring support for a restful night's sleep."

Hi all, just to share my opinion... i'm also looking for a bed, have more or less shortlisted what i want... my budget was around $5K to $7K as my hubby says normal people spend 1/3 of their lives on the bed, but i spend 1/2 my life on bed, so he must buy better bed for me... haha... anyway here's what i realised, not sure whether you feel the same...

all the different brands have models that are called differently across different shops, especially for the more premium models... this allows them to differentiate and say only it's exclusive to them... generally look at the range under which it is classified, will give you a better idea, the range determines the coil support structure you get, then the main different is in the top... like for example you can find simmons backcare 1 and 2 almost everywhere, so this one will have a bit of price war between various shops and consumers can secure cheaper prices... but for the more luxurious comfy plush feel then they will have different names...

Simmons - best range is Simmons BeautyRest black label, available only in gallery... range around $20K super out of my budget... but the guy at the gallery said best price he can give with krisflyer credit card 25% discount is around $14K... this before all the department store credit card rebates...

next best range is the BeautyRest World Class... which includes the models like Rose Hall... this one costs around $6-7K... technically NxG belongs to the BeautyRest normal range, but since it's new product with advanced memory foam, i guess it's kind of separate...

after that would be the more generic BeautyRest series where you have all the different model names... this one is more affordable in the $3-5K range, didn't really bother to check out more on the names as the ones i tried didn't really leave enough of an impression for me to want to find out more; the Glendale is one of those under this range where the salesperson said that many hotels use this range as they purchase many beds so can't afford to go beyond the $2-3K range, it was ok for me but not "magical fall in love" kind of feeling... BackCare, according to the person at the Simmons gallery, is firmer for more of the mass market where they are comparing with KingKoil and Four Stars type but want a "branded" name, thus they are usually priced more afforably compared to the rest of the Simmons range... these are quoted from the salesperson NOT my words...

Sealy - ultimate range is the palatial crest... which is also around $20K range... the difference from this palatial crest range and the next level unicased range is that unicased range has the special Sealy coil, but the palatial crest range has the special Sealy coil and in addition, on top and below of the coil there is the small micro coil which is to respond better to your movement... so this micro coil is the reason why you are paying double or triple the Unicased range... the different models then reflect the different plush tops used... if not much plush will be cheaper, if more plush materials used like latex, memory foam, wool, etc then more expensive...

next range is the Unicased range... this one i can explain more cos it's one of the models i'm shortlisting... Robinsons has this "premium collection" range which is actually the Unicased range... Courts' "premium collection" is also this Unicased range... the price is around $4K to $6K... again, the different models is due to different specifications in the plush top... Robinsons plushiest top had latex, memory foam and wool... Courts plushiest top only had latex, a bit firmer...

Serta's best range that i saw was supposed to be the "Perfect Day" bed which i saw at Taka... didn't go to their gallery itself, so maybe they have a better model (it was always closed when i came across their gallery)... was quite decent in the $6-7K range... and Taka Serta has this 50% off promotion for their whole range so i think the price might be a high $5K or low $6K... wasn't really impressed by it personally so didn't really bother to find out much... hubby liked another model which was only $3K something, but i felt it was too firm for me... the only one i felt was acceptable was the Perfect Day, but compared to the Sealy Unicased at Robinsons, it was easily forgotten... but we liked the sheep! apparently it's $80 per sheep... ;p

Tempur - their latest range was their 25cm mattress, with foam designed with more space so it will act more like it has spring coils... was just over $5K... hubby liked it, but still a bit funny without coils... if you like this range, can go try Simmons new NxG range which is their advanced memory foam top with their spring coil system beneath, price around $6.9K, now got launch promotion (only launched in Nov 09) comes with free bedframe... supposedly will end before CNY...

all price ranges mentioned above is for King size... generally Simmons is more well known in Singapore as they have been around since the 1970s... but Sealy has only entered Singapore like in 2003 or something, so relatively newer to SG... but worldwide apparently they are the market leader... Serta has somehow "won" the title of World's Best Bed but not too sure the judging criteria or how the title was awarded...

was very confused by all the mattress names and models when i first started... so after my research (at Park Mall, Taka, Paragon, Courts, Robinsons), this is what i try to make sense out of it... do feel free to comment if i've got anything mistaken, since i'm also only a consumer and definitely subject to my personal preferences... most impt thing, MUST try it out... hubby and i went to the Simmons gallery at Park Mall, Paragon AND Marina just to keep trying to decide between their Rose Hall and NxG... finally now final decision between Sealy Unicased and Simmons NxG... sigh...

Hi all,
I just went to Tangs and my SO and I are considering between Sealy and Simmons.
Sealy: King Unicased Daffodil ($3,129)
Sealy: King Padella ($2,949)
Simmons: King Beatycare 4-negative ions ($4,070)
Anybody got comments? All without bedframes. Are bedframes easy to buy and izzit cheap? Sealy' bedframes start from $900+ and Simmons bedframse are $2,000+
Tangs is giving 12% rebate for Citibank members on 16th Nov 2010.

Anyone here can share when is the best period to buy mattress to take advantage of the promotions? Am considering serta and sealy. Is CNY promo better or wait for GSS? Buy Fr robinsons/taka/Harvey or go to individual distributors?

Hi all,

Harvey Norman advertised a pre-stock take sale 2 Fridays ago. Anyone bought the promotional Sealy Unicased "Constellation" mattress?

Queen size - Usual price $4699, now $3499
King size - Usual price $5099, now $3899

Can share/review? Appreciate some comments if above is a good deal? There are so many different models to choose from and apparently different stores carry different range/models as well..So confusing!

Thanks!
