Hi, can anyone give me comments on the Topaz ballroom? Wanted to take a look at it today but it was not available for viewing.

hi joy

i'm having my wedding at Topaz room. it's only suitable if yours is a small wedding cos the max is 12 tables of 12 (144 pax). we like it cos it's small and cosy. but it's on the longish side and the entrance for your march in is from the door in the middle. the stage is also normally in the middle of the room so unless you change the stage position, you will have a very short march in. htb and i are only having 11 tables so hopefully we still have some room to play around with the stage position.

hope this helps!

My wedding is over!! I'm still reminiscing...wow...=))

The food was great (personally LOVED the steamed Canadian cod and the fish noodles the most - taste super good even when lukewarm the night after the banquet and even the next morning, haha). My 46 bottles of wines for 39 tables were consumed just nice, together with 2 barrels of beer. Ran out about the time the noodles and dessert were served, with full glasses on the tables. Our wedding coord made the effort to buy pearl strings to go with the black metal flower stands, the white orchids were simply awesome with the white table linen with gold runners. The video and photo montage projection were fantastic. The banquet manager saw to every detail, managing the march-in music well, setting up the stage for our special program, and together with my hubby's brothers, managed the wedding program and timing perfectly, even with 3 march-ins and 39 tables for phototaking. All in all, everything went well. Oh, and ask for the live feed, it was much better than expected!

Gosh, I wish I could do it all over again. The whole day just passed by so fast! To all of you brides and grooms to be, savour every moment of your preparation process! And don't worry, you're in good hands! Congratulations and happy wedding! ;)

I have a few friends who've attended weddings at sheraton, when i asked them about the quality of the food being served there, ALL of them said the food was too salty!!! Perhaps future couples who've signed up with Sheraton should highlight this to the wedding coordinator, best is to go through a stringent food tasting before the actual day. Quantity of the starch item (noodles, rice) is also not adequate for a table of 12 pax, the bowl is only 2/3 full even after the noodles/rice dish is evenly portioned. Hope this info helps. =)

Hello everyone, I just had my wedding on saturday. I have to say that it went really well and most of my guests commented it was the best wedding they have attended. I feel that Sheraton service is really good and when it comes to finding a good venue for banquet, other things like bridal suite, etc are not important. what is important is the service.

no problem with the food at all, pi pa duck was really good. Cod fish was not extremely fresh but that is about it. everything else was perfect with no complaints of being salty. portion size was commented to be good. too bad the day is over.

@elsie tay, food tasting is very important. make sure u pick the right dish and to make sure the chef that day will be the chef on the wedding day and give the feedbacks so they will improve on it.

Hi Andie Hazel/mjm,

Congratulations! Really good to hear such positive comments on ST. I will be going for my food tasting this Sat. I'm still battling with a few food choices.

May i know which rice/noodles dish, meat dish and dessert did you choose? My htb said the pi pa duck was very good (he tasted during one of the wedding show). I don't eat duck so we chose a herbal chicken instead. Wondering if this is a wise choice.

Is the fish noodles a popular choice? i don't recall eating it tho. Hopefully both of u can give me advice. Thanks

yes the pi pa duck during the actual wedding was very very good. we had the yam wrapped scallop which many people liked too. fish noodles were good too.

joy, you wouldnt be eating the meal anyway until after the wedding is over. what is important is your guests like it. i have never tried the herbal chicken before.

oh yes and no problems with the march in music. we had the option of playing it from the laptop or playing it from a burnt cd. I just showed the manager that i purchased those music.

Hi Joy, I chose the fish noodles. I loved it. It's still my favourite noodles dish now. My hubby can attest to that. I had the herbal chicken. That was quite alright. I personally loved the cod fish, BUT I think there was probably more than one chef. Some tables said their food was better than most wedding banquets' they have attended, some said nothing special. Not sure if it's a matter of standards or perhaps, the hotel prepares nicer food for the VIP tables and have slightly varying standards for the rest. For my food tasting, we made several comments and changes. E.g. We switched one of the cold dish meats from roast duck (tasted like smoked duck) to octopus. We asked for a brand new veggie dish not on the menu and had to top up quite a bit.
sad.gif
BUT, the good thing was that the hotel took our comments into consideration when they prepared our fish maw soup so it did taste better during the wedding.

PS: I'm a shark lover, poor sharks die very horribly in order for us to get sharks' fin soup. If you can, try the non-sharks' fin one and see if you like them? We managed to persuade our parents to go with our decision to have fish maw soup instead.

As for Stephanie and the other brides who'd like to see my wedding pics, you may add me on Facebook (send me a message as well as I don't want to add random people).
[email protected]

I've only been compiling from friends and relatives so far, my professional photographer's ones won't be ready till a couple weeks more. I'll add a few more pics to show the reception area and march in, but the current pics will show the stage and live feed.

Hi all! I juz had my wedding last weekend @ Sheraton.

The overall experience was great except few hiccups. They played the wrong march in song which we spent many sleepless nights searching for the idea one. I was really really sad abt this cos all our frens kept asking us the march in song n had quite high expectation on the surprise we are giving them. In the end, wrong song n everyone asked wat song was that. To be honest,we both dun even know what was the song! They tried compensating with free lunch but we refused n asked for 1night stay. Given a chance I dun want the free stay bcos till Now I still feel sad abt the wrong song..it's once in a lifetime song n it was wrong song..
sad.gif

There are still hiccups in the service that we have yet to resolve with Sheraton.

Oh ya! I need to mention that I was very very disappointed that our suite did not decorated like a wedding suite with rose petals or anything!!! I feel like walking in a biz suite. My bridesmaid who booked a normal room even had flowers and bears on the bedï¼

But overall it was great wedding.we are very impressed with their intelligent lightings that had brightened the ballroom. We used black theme n worried it may looked too black but thanks to the lightings.

Food wise, some comments:
1. Usuallyfor wedding, whatever was served,a set will be delivered to suite for couple after the banquet. But Sheraton only bring up those we didn't have chance to eat at the tables. That when I've free time after taking my photos,I wanted to eat something but nothing was on my table! They simply put our food aside to serve us in suite. I'd nvr seen couple plates are empty during their wedding.

2. Food quality n portion should be ok cos we haven't receive any complaints.

3. We chose herbal chicken which I love it. I agreed with anzel the roast duck tasted like smoke duck. We remained that cz the meat is really tender. But I replaced the drunken chicken which I find it tasteless to prawn salad. Fish noodles was quite good, very 'Q. Presentation for winter melon is excellent.

By the way, I've wine leftover that I purchased from Sheraton @ 35++ which I still have receipts.

Whoever needs, pls PM me. We just want to sell off at less than 30 per bottle depending how many u want. I've 30 bottles where u can choose red/wine bcos the stocks r still at Sheraton.

OCCTY, I had actually loved the winter melon, but my in-laws didn't like any of the veggie dish and found the winter melon not presentable. Ended up, we forked up extra $$ for broccolli with fresh scallops...:S

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Maybe your banquet manager blur. Haiz... I'm happee mine was all good, especially cos we had a military march-in as well as a 'special performance', but I guess future couples should make sure u remind remind remind your banquet managers!!

Hi ladies, thank you for your valuable feedbacks on the food items. I had changed the rice to the fish noodles for my food tasting since it had received raving comments from you gals.

OCCTY: Im sorry to hear about your march-in incident. Hope you will get over it quickly and have a blissful marriage. This taught me to communicate well in advance with the banquet manager.

By the way, wonder what favours did you all choose for your wedding? Dunno what ST had for favours now....hope they add in more choices since previously what they had were not....exciting!

Mjm, mine was on Friday.

Well overall experience was great cz the ambience of the hall really brings out the 5 star grand-ness.

If not for the many small hiccups,it would be perfect.

Wow what alot of happenings!

Hi OCCTY, i'm sure ur guests enjoyed themselves stilL! with the good food and jus cos its ur big day! =)

Hi Wei Fung, mine's in Nov too, coordinator mentioned (when i paid deposit) that they will contact us 3 months before wedding to settle things like food tasting, deco, selection of favours etc etc .. so now still considered early.. not sure if the rest settled theirs earlier than 3 months before Actual day?

Hi Andie, can I add you on facebook too? Excited to see how your weddin looked like! Thanks!

And thanks all for the dish recommendations. I had friends who attended weddings at Sheraton too. The Canadian Cod Fish and Fish Noodles are clear favourites!

My coordinator told me he'll contact me 3 mths before the wedding for food tasting, ie, in July.
Any other nicer dishes apart from Cod Fish and Fish Noodles?

Steph, I chose white orchids. The crystal strings were newly bought by my coordinator for the black metal stands cos the ones that come with the birdcage are supposedly NOT detachable. Hubby and I took some time to choose the flowers. I'm very happee with my choice for the VIP tables and guests tables as well! =) They are also orchids but we had a choice on the type of vase (big, small, tall, short, something like that)...So fun to picture and mix and match, haha!

Oh, and I requested for 4 stands. They are subject to availability, but just ask...
happy.gif

For my favours, I chose the Jap couple shotglass and the white heartshaped luggage tags.

Anyone who wants to add me (e.g. Jiajia), just go ahead and leave me a FB message saying you're from STS forum. For those whom I have already added, I hope the pics are helpful. There are a few more pics if you look under Photos of Me, there you can see abit more of the stage and live feed projection? Honestly, I think the live feed is not bad, unless you got super high standards and wanna fork out your own money to hire another videographer to focus on you (need a long cable too)...

For Jiajia, like mjm mentioned, the taro wrapped scallop is quite good. I had the prawn ball (with seasonal veg?) dish that was good - btw, it's real prawn, not "ball" per se. The rest I mentioned above already. If you can't decide, go for the herbal chicken - will look nice on the menu also since it's Li Bai's specialty dish. Taste is normal, not spectacular but good enough.
happy.gif
My dessert was almond paste with tangyuan. My favourite, so I'm biased...hehe. Actually, every dish tasted great, I was so relieved cos I was worried the standard would drop...

Don't worry too much over the decor or whatever. I didn't even recall how everything looked that evening until I came back and looked at the pics. I was just having fun and enjoying the company of my loved ones!! In the end, it's really about you!! =))

Andie, thank you for your advice.. loved your dry ice effect.. so much... may i know which wedding coordinator you have..Looks like he or she really plan very well for you..

weddingjoy

Andie/Hazel, i like your dry ice effect very much too...unfortunately, i don't think i can have that since im taking the Topaz function room. The march in is pathetically short.

btw, can i check with you do u choose your flowers when u confirm your linen and favours or do you go to the florist to choose? Im not topping up additional for the flowers...so im not sure of the procedures.

Hi Andie,

I've added you on facebook, name is cyn.. somehow i couldnt send u a facebook message to let u know i'm from the forum =)

By the way, did u have live feed provided by hotel for free for the entire evening? my coordinator said its only avail for the march in and cake cutting..

anzel

New Member
Jiajia, added you.

Live feed was for march-in (including my military march-in and sabotage), cake cutting as well as champagne pouring and toast (where family members and close friends were invited on stage). Otherwise, I think there's no need for entire evening. My third march in, we had our own montage.

Just had my wedding at Sheraton in June 2010 and it went really well.

For brides who are concerned about the food - feedback from my guests was that the food was good & with sufficient portions. My guests also paid compliments to the timing of the dishes being served & the efficiency of the serving staff

the first dish presentation was also very smartly done and not cheesy at all.

Won't recommend the dry ice march in though - my friends commented that they could see the staff pouring the dry ice from the live feed

bridal suite - was very comfortable and they provided 2 extension cords as my MUA requested because the lighting in the bridal suites are supposedly a bit dark (even though I had already requested for 1 of the brighter rooms already)

car park was fine - no issues with that. we had more than enough carpark coupons

no issues with music during the dinner - i complied all my chosen tracks on a cd for the av technician to play. to be on the safe side (given previous feedback of wrong march-in songs being played), my banquet manager suggested march-in songs to be burnt on different cds which helped.

as long as your coordinator and banquet manager is on the ball, things will be fine

I had a stress-less evening

Hi Fuz_Mind,

Thnak you for ur feedback. Glad to hear that the Car ParL Lot is enuf.. =)

if do not choose Dry-Ice.. what other effects they haf for march in? Bubbles??

fuz_mind

hi stephanie,

they don't have bubbles. my coordinator suggested that they can have rose petals placed on the guest tables near the march in and have the guests throw the petals when you march in.

hello
my fiance and i are going down to their wedding event tmr as we read that sheraton is a very nice place for a wedding.
very excited as this will be our first time looking at a hotel!!

I am about to pay deposit to sheraton tower for my wedding.

Wht u guys think about the Solemnization venue at waterfall terrace?

Hi Elyssa, have u been to visit the venue? I find the waterfall maybe abit too loud for the vows to be heard, and there r pillars blocking the crowd's view.

Hi Elyssa,

i can't believe i am back in this forum. I had my solemnization at the waterfall area, and I told the banquet manager to turn the waterfall off during the solemnization. Also mikes were given, and no one gave any bad comments.

I also got a discounted rate of $500 for the waterfall area... hope this helps.
