Hi, I'm a Shang bride and thinking of not engaging the hotel's florist cos they aren't really into design. I'm looking for reasonablly-priced decorator/florist to make my ballroom magical. Any recommendations?

I am going to do site inspection at Shang next week. I managed to get them to throw in additional perks after a few rounds of discussion. But I am still comparing their package with Ritz. Prices & perks are very close. As my utmost priorities are service and ambient, I saw quite a number of comments on their internal florists, in which most of them were not too positive. Is the fresh flower deco really that bad? As for chair covers, I supposed they should have sash on alternate chairs as shown in pics.

Also, anyone's coordinator is Serene? Minda share your thoughts?

haleigh > sash on chair covers for bridal table only. guest tables are strictly chair covers only.

not that the fresh flower decos are bad, just that the basic package didn't have the "wow" effect to compliment the venue/ballroom. In order to have that, one prob needs to top up $$ for it, which most couples feel a lighter tight (wedding budgets! sigh~).

Hi ladies,

Just wanna compliment my coordinator: Veronica here. As my past coordinator: Jennifer went on to further studies (wishing her all the best in her studies) I was inform that Veronica would be my next one. Initiatly I was worried as I was thinking omg my wedding is just a few months away and a sudden change in coordinator make me so panick.

Of course, Jennifer initiate a meet up together with Veronica as well as my florist coordinator (as I engaged outside one), programme coordinator (as I engaged some entertaining programmes)to do a proper handover. I am so glad about this initiation, to solve my worriness also.

Veronica is a extremely lovely and courteous lady. She is very efficient.. (Yes I would say more efficient and prompt in reply as well in terms of thinking than Jennifer) and I am more than glad and happy about this new coordinator of mine.

Also want to compliment both Jennifer and Veronica coordinations in their handing-over issue as basically everything I told Jennifer (even the small details), she convey each and every to Veronica. So I really rest assured as I was scare if the change of coordinator will some things promised to me by Jennifer being void. But I think too much. It did not. Veronica gladfully allow what Jennifer has promised to me those small little details.

I really like Veronica. Because other than what we told her to do, she gives me lots of advices. She know quite alot of things. She would also let me know about her personal views like during choosing my cocktail table flowers, she would advices which is better etc.

There was once I choose the wrong type of flower stand cos is too tall for my ballroom, she also let me know about it.

So in a conclusion till now I am very happy to work with her. I will give a thorough feedback of my entire wedding event after my wedding.

So ladies, other than Melanie I am glad to announce a new found just as lovely Shang lady: Veronica here

Hi Ladies,

I haven't met up with my coordinator but a meeting will be fixed soon for the site inspection. The lady whom I've spoken to, well, she's just fine. I mean when I tried to ask questions over the phone, wanting to know more about the venue & stuff, she tends to cut me off by saying things like, 'Let's meet up and discuss in depth'. Somehow I feel she's a little bit impatient.

Like many of the BTBs here, I always want to make sure that every single step and detail throughout the wedding preparation is perfect, if not near perfect. I am worried I may end up with a 'just ok' coordinator and wouldn't be able to enjoy and process.

I was thinking to meet up with her first, say if we really like the venue, we may consider requesting a change of coordinator if we still think she is nowhere proactive or helpful.

Do you gals think it is rude to make such request? Is our reason compelling enough? We will of course seek assistance from her manager instead of asking straight in her face.

Haleigh, you may wanna share the qns you have enquire with her abt? Some questions can be answered over the phone while some cannot. If the questions you asked is hard to answer or need you to be present to answer, then the coordinator is not wrong initiating a meet up with you to clarify the questions. Qns like: How the ballroom look like ar? - Of course need you to go down to view for the best answer ma (since you mentioned you enquire about the venue and stuff).

However if you ask question that can be answered over the phone and she reply like this, then maybe give her the benefit of the doubt that she may be busy at that period of time?

I for once have change my coordinator like 2times. 1st time was the absence of a reasonably service (needless to say abt e 'expectations' of a 5 boutique* hotel). But the 1st coordinator did not even showcast a normal 4* hotel service. Okay nvm - worst.

2nd coordinator as mention in my previous post went to further studies - okok to good.

3rd coordinator by far the best I have encounter - V.good.

Although is a pity to say all are no where near my experience with Fullerton and Four Season's coordinator... Okay maybe my 3rd coordinator is somewhere near - not that far fetch ba.

So far my experience with co-ordinators though not alot...they will prefer to meet you in person to discuss if they havent met you before..so they would be able to understand your needs and wants and also meet you face to face..

Hihi .. any one can help ?

I am thinking of taking shang package but i am not sure which of the ballroom should i be taking as my table number currently is 53 table . The tower ballrom is maxing at 55 table while the island ballroom is starting from 55 tables. As the wedding is still 1 year away , i am not sure if the number would decrease or increase... any advice ?

fool in love >
maybe you can speak to your coordinator about it.
IF you have enough budget, i would suggest taking the island ballroom.
cos if you don't meet the min table requirements, you can always meet the min spending for island ballroom.
for example, the table is 1k per table and min 55 tables will constitute min spending of 55k.
If in any case you only have 50 tables, then you will top up ur food to meet the min spending of 55k.

hope this helps.

Hi

My name is Jarls from Singapore and I am an undergraduate at a Hospitality Management school in Switzerland. For my undergraduate dissertation, I am looking at the negotiation behaviour of prospective wedding couples looking to hold their wedding banquet at 5-star hotels in Singapore.

Your response is kindly appreciated and will aid in the completion of my paper.

This survey will take up 15-20 minutes of your time.

SInplyme,
Its me fools in love .. change the nick cos fiance dun like previously email that i used .. (haha used to share wif my ex ) ..so change new nick ...

ANyway ... i spoke to one of the manager , placed a tentative booking for the island ballroom ..
BUt seriously i am quite unhappy as i do find that she is kinda brushing me off . When i speak to her about it , the only thing she stress was that if i take the Island ballroom i MUST fufil 55 table but there was no help or suggestion given . So end up i choose to take the Island... I also requested to meet up to discuss about the detail but was told that ALL coordinator was fully booked /committed till the wedding show. So i asked if i should wait till the wedding show to sign as there might be better perks . She told me that in that case she cannot guarantee that the dates i wan can be kept till then .
Haha .. so its like , nobody free to meet , yet may not be able to guarantee the date .. so its like if i really do want to be a shang bride , i probably can forget about negotiating , just sign the given package.

Haiz , lets jus hope that its jus fatigue for her response and the next encounter will be good ...

Will be heading down to peep at the ballroom this weekend ..

Hi SC, who did you speak to? We placed our deposit couple of weeks ago and our coordinator was indeed very helpful. Maybe you wanna request for a change of coordinator? Their ballrooms are basically very popular and according to our coordinator, they are packed till the end of the year. It took her a while before we could drop by and view the ballrooms.

I suggest you voice your concern and dissatisfaction to them, and see if they'd improve their service. Otherwise, you should move away from them because I believe we should all enjoy the planning process, and not let these things stop us from taking pleasure. We must be 100% sure of the banquet venue and find the one that fits best to all our requirements.

Good Luck!

when's the wedding show?
okie, for me, the initial events manager assigned to me was on leave so they got another events coordinator to show me to the ball room, most of the negotiating was done via phone and emails thereafter (iirc).

thought you can do a tentative booking for 2weeks or 3days or sthg...

Hi Haleigh ,
I spoke to a lady ... suspect she is prolly the one who sent me the contract ... dun really want to mention names .. The date that i want to book is next year .. I was abit shock too as previously i had spoke to swissotel and i must say their coordinator had been extremely nice and helpful despite their tight schedule .. so now .. haiz ...

Sinplyme : the wedding show is 17th oct . So your who negotiating was done via phone or email ? never meet up at all ?

But i must say Miss Jenny who registered me for the wedding show was definitely polite and nice .. unfortunately she is not the one who sent me the contract ..

Haiz ... with my current table and also one yer in advance booking , not much hotel left for me to choose . .

sama-sama... i enquired with the hotels last aug and guess what, most hotels and taken... imagine, it's more than a year to my wedding date...

when you request for the package details, they will send you, then we met to view the ballroom (but my then coordinator was on leave so we just view and left).
Subsequently the discussion was done via phone and emails. we did meet up twice or thrice thereafter... can't remember..

hey, just got off the phone.
was looking for my coordinator and coincidentally she's not at her desk. Jenny picked up the line and sounded really polite. ;)

actually, in the past i would feel like meeting up to 'negotiate' on the package, but after been through it, I find phonecalls and emails more time-effective (provided the emails are replied promptly).

Well done! Mine's not Veronica unfortunately, but she was ok, much better than our first experience.

I think can try to ask for additional red wine/confirmed table; additional night stay; free flow of beer, etc. Hope these help.

Has anyone talked to the florist? Please share your experience. We are taking all 6ft tables hence will need a bigger centre piece, wondering if they'll charge extra.

oh... i spoke to Jenny also .. she is also extremely sweet .. really went out of the way to help... Anyway i am pretty contented i am getting the shang service standard from the coordinators .. sweet...

Anyway i will be going for wedding show .. so prolly will be getting the perks package which is extra 0.5 wine /table .. additional stay wise i rememebr shang already provide 2 night so 3 night is unlikely haha.. ..
Anyone managed to get free flow beer ? was tinking if can nego on the corkage cos i suspect that is gonna kill ...

Haleigh , the florist must be appointed shang florist or any florist ...Cos there is this very nice florist that i always get flowers from them .. i tink they gt do deco too but nt too sure about Shang if they did before ..if u wan can share wif u ..

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum... but i've been reading all the various postings on the various banquet locations etc.

I'm seriously considering Shang for our AD (in 2012), because i really like the Island Ballroom, and also it is big enough to cater for the tables that i need. Previously was contemplating to go to Conrad. I love the ballroom as well.

Anyway, wanted to find out how the food is at Shang?

And you've all mentioned about the florist of Shang... does it mean that the florist decoratiosn does not coming in the package?

are there any hidden costs that we got to consider?

Anyone managed to get the free flow of beer from Shang?

Cheers

Hi Ter_09, we've picked Shang as our dinner venue, Jan 2011. There will not be any hidden cost, just that you have to line out everything clearly with your coordinator.

For the florist, basic floral deco, eg centrepieces, floral stands, chair sashes, etc are all FOC, you will only need to top up if you have special requirements. We requested for bigger centrepices on each table & flowers behind the VIP chairs, hence there will be additional costs payable to the florist directly.

No, we did not manage to get free flow of beer coz we don't think we need that for our guests, only a FOC 30L barrel, but I guess that's negotiable. You may want to check with your coordinator on that.

I have no comment on their food but I heard not on the A-list. Really depends on how particular you are when it comes to food quality.

One thing I must add, they provide invitation cards cum printing for over 80% of confirmed guests, most hotels only provide the former and only 70%. Also, they have a greater variety of wedding favours, linens, cards, etc, to choose from.

Hope the above helps. Good Luck!

P/S: If you are really going with Shang, try requesting for Veronica as your coordinator, heard she's good =)

hi girls! just to check.. how prompt does your coordinator respond to your email queries? from booking a date to discuss the package and viewing the ballrooms, to after signing the contract and clarifying matters? within 2 days?

Hi Ophidi,

U may want to go take a look at Waterfall Terrace or Garden Terrace for a nice cosy ambience since your guests is only about 120.

Its lovely & intimate by the pool, not sure about the price though.

they are usually quite strict w perks, maybe can ask for additional 1 more barrel of beer and perhaps more complimentary parking tickets? can also try to get 1night stay for the helper's room instead of just day use =D good luck!

Hey Sha
Mines Tower Ballroom. Love the Island Ballroom but cannot meet the minimum.

Most importantly, you need to tell your wedding manager what is most important to you. As in is it, Alcohol. (hence beer/wine corkage), or is it food (Ornee etc?) or Decorations (Flowers etc)

Hi girls!

Im thinking of getting a supplier to get white cloth to drape the walls of island ballroom. After chatting with various hotels' suppliers, I found out that white material is hard to maintain and many suppliers have white fabric that has changed colour with time.

So, im thinking of getting new fabric to drape the walls, but would like to look for other couples who may be interested to share the cost. I'll need at least 2 other couples.

Having white drapes around the whole island ballroom can be costly but if we can find more couples who are willing to share the cost, it can be lower.

The overall effect is splendid, with lights behind the white drapes that can change to your desired colour.

If you'd like I can show you some photos of the ballroom with white drapes. gorgeous.

Fannieme, tried to PM you but seems like you cant receive PM. I am planning to sign contact with shangri-la this late next week. wanted to check if the perks we are getting are the same. Shangrila is really pretty strict with perks. My coordinator is Serene, wanted to meet up with Nellie instead but she was on a long leave last week.

hi annling, can share pics with me? [email protected]
thanks!

hi lisaong, i think the perks more or less should be quite standard, and yes.. shang is quite strict with their perks. i've already signed up with them for their 2012 package, mine is a weekend, how about yours?
happy.gif

2 barrels of beer, 2 nights stay in bridal suite and i requested 1 night stay for helpers (normal room). they also gave me more complimentary parking and food tasting up to 12 pax instead of 10. invitation cards also more as compared to the standard 70%. i guess more or less about there.

Fannieme, I tried to ask for night stay for helpers but they are only willing to extend it till 2359, not entire night. not too sure if i should change coordinator since this coordinator im contacting doesnt seem as nice as i had expected. mine is also a weekend, you are getting normal weekend package? my partner and I wants to change the VIP table menu to platinum.

fannieme

hi lisaong, ya im only getting the normal weekend package, didnt upgrade to platinum. if you are upgrading VIP table menu to platimum then you might want to ask them for the helper's room. they are normally quite strict with perks. maybe because they already have the 'reputation' there. can i ask you how many tables you are holding?
thanks.
