Hi Fiona,

I don't have a particular stall to recommend. I'd suggest you go around the stalls to see which tailor's style suits you. It costs about S$18 to S$30, depending on the quality of the shirt material.

Hi

Anyone just been to Shanghai or staying in shanghai can advise:

1) what is the difference in shops in terms of variety and prices for Nanjing lu vs Huaihai lu?

Th eshops only on Huaihai zhong lu? or entire stretch? Coz we deciding to stay at Dashijie metro... which i think can walk to Huaihai lu

2) Staying near nanjing lu or stay near Yunnan food street at Dashijie metro better in terms of food and shopping?

3) Where are the best buys area? Qi Pu lu and?

Also for sports gear and clothes....any recommended area?

Thanks!
Day

Nanjing lu and Huai Hai lu are mostly departmental stores and boutiques. i dont really like shopping at nanjing lu. didnt manage to buy a single thing. all departmental stores selling things you can get in Singapore for similar prices. huai hai got more stuff. more smaller boutiques. but a lot of people peddling for you to follow them to buy replica/fake goods. very irritating. they keep following you loh! arghh and there's a big H&M in huai hai.

my favourite will be qi pu lu. all wholesale there. but of coz must know how to bargain. but i find the people very very nice leh! very easy to bargain with. maybe coz i'm chinese also lah. can communicate. now even bangkok also very hard to bargain liaos. people there not as friendly. now vendors in qi pu are like thais many years ago. but i think also coz even after bargaining, they're still earning quite a margain from us thats why still so nice to us! hahaha but things are really cheap lah! if you're into online shopping that ship things from china, gees you'll go crazy there. they're way cheaper.

but you need to be really shrewd and smart lah. and it gets really crowded at some point. so gotta negotiate the crowd loh. and avoid days where wholesalers come and stock up. the vendors wont bother with our 1 or 2 pieces purchase. i think its monday if i remember correctly. cannot remember already.
