Riverview Hotel

I booked with Riverview for my wedding in Jan 2001. The reason why I chose Riverview is because they are reasonable priced and they can accomodate a small number of tables in a ballroom whereas many other hotels don't. They even let you have a one-night stay despite that! My cousin had her wedding there and the food was reasonable, don't remember anything bad about it. So far my dealings with the wedding co-ordinators have been pleasant and they can be quite flexible with details. If you are interested, I can e-mail their wedding dinner packages to you (which they e-mailed to me when I was enquiring..)

which bridal house did you booked your package with?

hi!

I am using their smaller ballroom which is the Camellia Room and that has a minimum capacity of 12 tables. I will probably need at most 15 tables. Their maximum capacity for that room is 18 tables. However, if you are looking at a room which can take more tables then you can use the Lily Room which has a minimum capacity of 25 tables and a maximum of 35 tables. They also have a other rooms as well as their Chinese Restaurant which can take other numbers. Their e-mail brochure has all the details, if anyone is interested, I can e-mail it to you (provided they have not revised their packages!).

My bridal package is with Divine Couture and I'm loving every minute of it, because they have been wonderful with my gown designs and their service is superb!

Hi dutchess, thanks for the info!! but the lady i talked to seemed quite inflexible till i hung on :p at first they wanted to charge for seat covers. who did you liaise with?

I first spoke to a guy called Edwin Sim who is the Executive Assistant F & B Manager. He was really helpful and was the one who actually sent me the e-mail and answered all my queries. After that the coordinator in charge for my dinner was another lady who was also the banquet sales manager. Unfortunately she left and now the Asst Banquet Sales Manager by the name of Raymond Ling is the coordinator in charge. Maybe you should try talking to Edwin first cos it seems to me that he is quite senior and would be able to make a lot of decisions.

kate,
btw, which lady did you speak to and what designation does she hold? did you get the seat covers thrown in for free?? they did not mention seat covers to me although i didn't think it was necessary and it IS a chinese dinner...the old folks might not like the chairs covered in white?? my cousin's wedding looked ok without it. how much extra would it cost?

dutchess, the lady i spoke to was eileen. assistant manager i think. she said i can't lower the number of pple for the afternoon recep. it;s like it's for 50 pple. and even if i've smaller no. of pple i still pay the same. seems they aren't so flexible. yep she gave seat covers for 2 tables.

Hi Dutchess,

I thought of holding my wedding banquet at riverview, but i got a problem here. That is location wise. I think its quite inconvenient for those who don't have a car. Any idea how to get to there from the nearest mrt station. BTW, could u email me the brochures.
A million thanks to u!

How bout Orchard Parade Hotel. Seat Covers included. And the food at Club Chinois is PURRRRRRRRRRFECT!! However, if u book thru Club Chinois instead of the Hotel u can get free barrel of beer. If ubook thru Hotel. They do not give.
Both way, u get to use their ball room.

hi Pauline!!
i think the nearest MRT is Outram. the buses going there are 51, 64, 123 & 186. (i hope i'm not wrong!) not too sure how to get from the MRT station to the hotel, haven't had time to find out yet. if i do find out later, will let you know... or maybe you can let me know? when i attended my cousin's wedding there, i took a taxi from my office.
the brochure is on the way to you through e-mail, but i don't know whether they have changed their rates since the last time i got them.

Hi all

Whereabouts is Riverview & what's the price per table? Any1 knows if they can accomodate 40-45 tables & how's the ballroom like?

Hi Monica,

Understand that chinois is under the Tung Lok group. Is there any differences between this one and the rest of the group (eg, Paramount Hotel and Nobel House)? What is the price like? I'm looking for a place that can accomodate 30-35 tables and I understand that Chinois cannot take that.

Also can you email the brochure to [email protected]? Thanks!

Hi Jordan,
Chinois can only take Max 30 tables.
The webpage Ix pointed would be very helpful too. Spice Garden at Fort Canning is also under Tung Luk.
Good luck searching!!

Hi, I have attended a friend's wedding there 2 years back. I feel that that place is very "cheena" and traditional. If you want to have it there, you might have to spend some $ to revamp the place. (unless you prefer traditional setting)

Food wise, it was so so. Service was also ok.

hi... we requested to change to yam paste and they say must top up $8 per table... so in the end we chose to change to red bean paste without charges. i think it depends wat u change to.

Hi omega, they told us we need to top up $10
seems that they r not very consistent, cos when we asked them the first time, Richard, the F&B Mgr told us that they dun serve yam paste. But when we asked Emily, Banquet Sales Assistant, she told us that we need to top up $10.

Omega, did u request for additional perks, like extra night / free seat covers ?

Hi AC, I intend to book the ballroom, so maybe u were referring to the restaurant ?

we dun need an extra nite cos we are leaving for our honeymoon the next morning.

maybe if u really wanna have yam paste.. u can check with them again .. and say someone was quoted $8/table ...etc

hi!

had my wedding there in Jan and was pretty satidfied with the outcome. the price was reasonable. i think i paid $538 per table on a Sunday. the food is good too, no complains. what's more, you get a bridal suite with complimentary cake and fruit basket and also a food voucher. service is overall very good as i feel that Riverview is more like a boutique hotel and is very cosy.

Hi eden,

did you hold your banquet at Concorde? How much is it per table? Do they provide seat covers for the whole banquet? Is the food and service ok?

Hi Leng,

My friend just had her wedding dinner at Concorde. i quite like the ballroom. My friend tole me that she actually got 2 nite stay in the bridal suite which I thot was real great!. No, they don't provide seat covers..... The ambience is really really much much better than that of Riverview. Have you seen the 2 hotels. Actually I am a Nov 2002 bride, went down to view Riverview... was willing to settle for 1 Dec (one day after my wedding)but in the end, I booked Carlton Hotel... they look good after the renovation.... as for Concorde... they were booked
on 30 Nov and 1st Dec...

you better hurry b4 more places get taken up

Hi mouse,

though i have not attend wedding in river view, well i just spoke to eileen on the packages. i find it reasonable. They are the only hotel that provide for smaller capacity like: 10 tables. But u have to pay $2 for seat cover per seat except for VIP tables. Whats more, u even get to stay in their bridal suite!
I planned to have my wedding next year.

Hi

Any to-be-brides out there who has booked river view ? Who do you liaise with ? How's ur experience with River View ?

I've already booked with River View and experience some unpleasant encounters...

Eileen, the banquet Manager, is extremely inpersonal and inflexible. We requested for some changes in the parking coupon procedure and she does not even entertain, saying that is the way things are done in the previous years, so she has no intention to make the exception for us...obviously, we are not convinced....

how should I handle this...any comments / experiences to share ?

I had my wedding dinner on March 2002. It turn out to be great. The atmosphere is romantic and all my friend comments that the food is good and tasty. The person in charge is quite flexible, she has let us do some changes and quite understanding.

so far how you all find the decor of the room? if without sit cover is it nice? what's the colour of the chairs?

hi hi

seems like this thread was not that "active"

anyway i've went down last weekend & have viewed their function room. i've seen camellia room, its pillarless & cosy. but the reception area is quite narrow thus can't have pre-cocktail there, they can only provide that at another room @ 3rd storey, whereby the camellia room is @ 4th level.

hi dutchess

did you have your pre-cocktail @ your wedding? i think your package is diff. from what i was quoted, they charge me 557 for 8 dishes & 580 for 9 dishes. and they only have fruit cake for the guest instead of chocolates, if i want to chg it to chocolate i'll have to pay extra of 1.50 for each chocolate.

dutchess

hi coco

my package was booked in 2000 so it would definitely have been revised by now. i didn't have a pre-cocktail and if i remember correctly, i had fruit cake and not chocolates.

hi dutchess

Hi coco

I'm the bride from River View Hotel.
My package was booked January this year and wedding is around October.Price is S$498+++ plus chair cover.

Me also find the camellia room quite nice and cosy. Eileen Tan who is the banquet manager can arrange a florist shop for me to decor the whole ballroom into candlelight theme with fresh flowers and aroma candles. But me need to top up another S$450.00. I saw some samples of from other couples wedding, very nice and romantic.

How do you think.

This was one of my considerations but in the end couldn't choose it because my PIL had personal reasons for not liking the place.

I liked the coordinator though- very professional and service-oriented, pity we halfway realised no matter what, can't hold it there (PIL's personal reasons).

Hi MT, coco

My Parents had been there last year and commended that the food was very nice especially their shark fin, deep fried sea bass and sauted prawns and they like the place too. So that's why I book the package ......

hi meowmi

you mean they dun provide you with the flora decor? 450 i think is quite ex....are you holding in the camellia rm? any pre-cocktail? actually the place is nice except that the pre-cocktail got to hold @ 3rd level, and they are still giving fruit cakes for the guest. i was told that i have to pay for the beer too...how many tables are you having?

meowmi

Hi coco
happy.gif

they have the standard flora decor but they are all fake flowers. I haven't seen their original decor as the coordinator only email me those that was decorated by the flora shop. Mine is the camellia rm and hold 12 tables.

I was told that only 25 tables and above then have free barrel of beer. So mine got to pay for the beer loh.

Me no pre-cocktail also but ok lah the price is within my budget.
