Has anyone here held their wedding reception at this club?

It'a basically a marina's club.

Any comments would be appreciated.

hi Zenn,

yes, i'm considering the place as well.
It looks very romantic from the pictures but i have yet to go down and have a look.

Can you give some pointers what to watch out for when i go down?

Would yours be a outdoor affair or a indoor Sit down dinner?

btw are ya a member of that club?

hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Grace,

Sorry for late reply as I ve missed out this thread. So ve you view the venue?

I am having outdoor, sit down dinner. No I am not a member....

My bf n I simply love the place. Of course the risk involved will be the weather but we will be building the marquee...

Hi, Zenn

I heard that only members can go in. Is it true? Thought of bringing my wife for dinner over there as I heard that the atmosphere is very nice. Please advice.

Dear Gracelynn/Zenn/Sean,

Thought I will help out here. I used to work there few years ago when they were in the midst of movong from the old place at Jalan Buroh to West Coast.
RSYC is the oldest member's marina club in Singapore. Other marina club include Raffles Marina and the revamped Punggol Marina. The club is less than 5 years old, and although they are a members' club, they are having problems sustaining their f&b facilities through their own members only.
You can call and ask but I do not think they restrict non-members to hold weddings there. It is quite economical too, value for money, nice marina ambience, a exclusive event venue.
However, I would have these concerns if I am having a wedding there.
1) Is food catered from outside?
2) What is the service like? Are most regular part-timers?
For Sean, no, the restaurants are not opened for public. But if you turn up, are seated and taken your orders, they would not chase you out becos you are not a member.
Hope the info is useful.
Cheers.

Hi sean,
Hmm.. perhaps you wan to call them n double check cos for weekday lunch they do allow non-members to dine in. Weekends are out but not sure abt weekday dinner.

Hi baobao,
The food is not catered fm outside. They ve their own chef. According to the banquet mgr, they used regular part timers (not sure how true). Seen one of the wedding there, services seems not bad...

Hi, baobao & zenn

Thanks for the advice. Will call them up to ask. by the way, how's the food over there? Nice?

zenn

Hi sean,

No problem. There r 2 places for dining - The Wharf where they serves local delight and The Bridge where they serves western food. Personally find the food not bad n price reasonable.

Hi, I'm interested in having solemnisation and wedding recetion after that (hi-tea or lunch buffet) at RSYC too, anybody has any more updates besides the above? Such as the accessiblity and the food, service provided?

I've called up and the sales manager and he has given me several menus on the buffet/hi-tea. Seems quite a reasonable spread. Any comments on the buffet/hi-tea food?

He also told me its a 10min from West Coast Park. Seems quite inaccessible without car/taxi. Anybody has any comments on this?

jergens

orange:

no doubt its a just 10mins away fr West Coast park, but its quite inaccessible on foot or by bus. The nearest bus-stop is at least a good 15mins walk. Plus the walk out is not very pleasant in this hot sun now. Its ok if you drive, but parking is quite limited.

Hi orange,

Cant comment now till my wedding is over in Jul but my friend had his solemnization there commented the buffet is nice. As for transport, I ve to admit that its quite inaccessible w/o car. Are you taking the wedding package? If so, they will provide a bus fm buona vista mrt...

hi Orange
I had my ROM soleminzation there and am a member. I did my outdoors at the second level cuz the view of the sea was spectacular. They played music (my choice) and served drinks there while waiting for my solemization. After that we proceeded to the restaurant downstairs for lunch.I didnt take hte buffet but chosed the chinese menu.
It was a beautiful experience and the people there helped a lot. I think the manager was Eric and he was absolutely helpful. I think you will enjoy the experience there

Hi jeanz,

Just wondering do you own or know of any member who own a boat there?

Btw, did you have chairs for guests to sit and how you arranged ur table for solemnization cos Eddy was telling me groom, bride n witness will stand while the guests will b seated?

jeanz

hi zenn

Sorry i dont own any of the yachts there but if you want to do it on a boat you can too..the club can arrange for you.
i had seats for everyone including myself..hee..(stand?!) I had a table in front with seats for the JP, witnesses and my hubby and me. then a few rows of seats behind..I handled all the flower deco myself with my girls frens eg table piece, ribbons ard chairs and petals along hte walk way for my pseudo "walk in"Thay handled the table cloth and the chair covers.

zenn

New Member
Hi Jeanz,

Oh ok. I wonder why he suggested to stand. Anyway, I prefered to be seated too. I will b having dinner at Foreshore after that so I requested to shift those flower stands up during solemnization.

Hey so where did you put the petals? Does it fly off easily cos its quite windy at times rite? Any photos to share?

Hi orange,

My wedding was gd esp the boat sail in for my first march in. Its so romantic and all my guests been talking abt it even after that.

But there were quite a no of hiccup caused by rsyc. The major one are transportation from mrt failed to turn up, parking problem cos there were few events going on the same day and the dinner was been delayed. They ve also forgotten to pass my coordinator car park pass and also reception table decor.

As for food, most of my guests commented not bad but of course you cant compare wif rest. Oh mine is outdoor dinner...

Hi Zenn

Nice to know ur wedding good. Agree with u that the sail-in is interesting and romantic! It's one reason why me n bf chose this place too.

Tks for the feedback on the hiccups u've encountered! I'll look out for them. Just wonder how can all these important things go wrong when eddie said they've experience doing weddings before.

Where did you have your solemnization? At the beacon (2nd floor deck)? I've not decided whether to have solemnization just outside where the boat berth, the beacon or at the function rm itself (juz before dinner starts)....

Did you have to do any deco yourself? Seems like they'll provide most deco, frm table cloth to flower deco. The only thing i'm quite disappointed is their chairs used in function rm will not have any covers provided. They dun have at the moment. Will have to pay for renting outside chairs with covers.

Anyway, if you remembered any things we should take note, would very much appreciate your feedback!

zenn

Hi orange,

No problem, hope it helps.... Exactly! All these are the basic and how can they made such a mistake rite?

I had my solemnization at Beacon at around 6pm. It's kinda sunny that day and the sun shined in and directly on part of my guests. What do you mean by outside where the boat berth?

I met up with the florist before my wedding but they still forgotten my recept decor... Other then that its ok.

ah_gal

Hi Zenn,

I just have my solemnisation at RSYC too. Seems that I have the same hiccup as u too. They didn't pass the car park pass to my coordinator too and worse, the guards refused to let my guests enter. In the end, my hubby gotta go down to the gate himself and waited till all our guests arrive in order to avoid any unhappiness...

Mine was a hi-tea buffet and the guests commented the food was lousy...
sad.gif
but overall, the memories is still good. esp the march-in part by yacht...

zenn

Hi Ah Gal,

Huh you ve the same problem too? Who was your coordinator?

The place is lovely but sad that the service so lousy.

ah_gal

New Member
Hi Zenn,

Eddie was my coordinator.
Ya. They should improve on service. Especially the coordinator on carpark & transportation.

How was your photos? Nice? For mine, I had the solemnisation & hi-tea at the Beacon. As the day was quite sunny, the photos we took against the yachts all can't see the faces. quite disappointing.

zenn

New Member
Hi Ah Gal,

Mine was Eddie too! We complained and wanted him to compensate cos we got the guests to take cab in from mrt as the bus failed to turn up. He said will check wif the transport co but I didnt hear from him. When I called him, he said the bus co refused to...

What time was your rom? Mine was solemnization at 6pm and dinner at 7+ It was very sunny durin my rom. Overall photos ok...

ah_gal

New Member
Harlow Zenn,

Har? like that ah? then just "Bu liao liao shi liao" after your solemnisation i guess.. sigh!
If the bus co. refused to, then should't RSYC work out something to compensate? eg. vouchers for u & ur hubby to dine there or something like that?

Mine was at 3 plus.. cos' Mr David Loh is only avail at that time. urs at 6pm is better. can catch the sun set. must be very beautiful.. did u engage photographer?

zenn

New Member
Hi Ah Gal,

Lucky we managed to get for some discount on dinner so we give up in 'chasing' him. I doubt rsyc going to do anything abt it. Did you manage to bargain for anything.

Ya my sail in was at 7+ just b4 the sunset. Yes I did engage a photographer. You?

Hi Dear all, I am new to this forum.
I am thinking of holding my wedding dinner at RSYC too. My hubby and I simply love the outdoor concept. Eddie told us of one outdoor BBQ buffet which they organized before but gonna to be much more expensive. We love the concept but till date we still have not gotten any quotation from them. I'm getting a bit worried by the lousy service that I saw on this forum. Would anyone still suggest that I consider on this venue based on your own experience?

zenn

New Member
Hi Pearline,

Yes their buffet dinner is more x than chinese dinner. That's the reason why we choose the latter instead.

Eddie is pretty slow in getting back and you always ve to call n chase him.

The place is lovely but service wise kinda not up to standard. Also, you ve to prepare that if rsyc happened to ve their own function on the same day, the place will be very crowded.

Btw, when is ur wedding?

pearline

New Member
Hi Zenn

Thank you so much for your advice. It's still a long way for me, most likely March of 2006. We are trying to shortlist a few places now so that by early next yr when we finalize on the date, we can drill into each venue to negotiate for the best package.

zenn

New Member
Hi Pearline,

No problem. Spore has limited outdoor venue for wedding esp near the sea. The other 2 popular one will be Raffles Marina n Rasa Sentosa but both rather inconvenient. That's also one of the reason why we settled for rsyc hee

pearline

New Member
Yah loh. I prefer Raffles Marina but the moment my parents heard abt Tuas...they started to scream!
Rasa Sentosa is out for me as I was damn disappointed by their service. I attended a friend's wedding abt 2 weeks ago and was alarmed by their service level.
Firstly, they changed the cocktail reception location without informing the host beforehand.
Secondly, they were testing on the system only when almost all guests were seated.
The worst thing was towards the last few dishes, I think the chef did not cook enough food, so a couple of tables went without the lotus dumpling rice and dessert. What they did was they took the left over from other tables and asked if we want to take it. It was terrible! Can you imagine such things to happen at such a highly reputable resort? This is really a warning to all couples who have the intention to book the package with them!

Well, thanks for all the highlights on RSYC.
Btw, did you find the place humid during your function or too windy? Did your guests face discomfort in any areas?

zenn

New Member
Raffles Marina was my first choice too but my hubby finds the place very far too. We visited rsyc and we both fall for it so we did not source further.

Yours will be buffet dinner at nite rite? If so, most of the time its pretty windy. Some of my guests attended my solemnization at 6pm which was very hot then. They feel that 'the heat' still wif them at nite hee Other then that, its ok.

Oh on my AD, rsyc was having function n parking was really a problem. Most of my guests had to park at the building next to it n walked in. This is something I really feel bad abt.

Has eddie get back to u on the quote?

I am really shocked by rasa's service!

pearline

New Member
No, he has not revert to me. Understand that he is away for a retreat and his sales assistant shall get back to us but never. Probably I will give them a call. Would like to stop searching too if everything is well as the process is really very tiring...
sad.gif

I told my hubby about what you faced and he was worried too. Travelling for guests is always a great concern as I do not wish that my guests will have lots of complaints on it and also end up starting the dinner real late.

I wonder how the parking problem can be resolved. Probably need to go and look around at the area again and see what Eddie can do for us.

zenn

New Member
Let me know after you got ur quote. I guess you will be building marquee too rite?

There is no way Eddie could help cos afterall its a member club so priority would be given to them. Guests are allowed to park along the road, just outside rsyc but if there are events or during weekends it maybe full too.

Oh another thing to ensure is the transport provided by them. They are supposed to provide pick up from MRT but on my AD, the driver failed to turn up
sad.gif

pearline

New Member
Yap, I saw that you did mentioned on the transport thing. Was surprised too that Eddie provides that kind of service as he seems to be so nice and warm and kept telling you how involved he is in helping to ensure the whole function will go well.

Tried calling them yesterday but no one picks up the call. Probably need to wait for Eddie to come back...

Thanks, will keep you posted!

zenn

Actually Eddie has been very nice and flexible thro out the preparation. Think one of the problem lies on mgmt and lack of man power cos he is one man show. Think not easy for him too...

am planning to have either a luncheon/ dinner at the beacon for 80 guests. kind of liked the place but wonder if it is going to be squeezy with 80 guests at the balcony. Also, the service sucks so kind of hesitant. any feedback?

Hi all,
its great to know all the information here.. I am getting married next year July... Thinking of Raffles Marina too, but has not confirmed ... Attended a Lawn wedding there, and it is just unforgettable..

Hi Zenn,
do you have RSYC package info?

Can email me the info at [email protected]

Thank you ladies!

Hi Zenn

I've booked with RSYC last year. Was settling for dinner in the ballroom initially. But now my guest list has expanded to 25 tables.... so I can't hold it inside the ballroom anymore.

Did you hold your wedding on the foreshore deck? How much did you pay for the marquee? Mind sharing with me the cost?

zenn

New Member
Hi gals...

Estelia,
I don't ve it in soft copy. What do you wanna know? I will try to recall hehe

Fish,
Yup I had mine at foreshore deck. Paid $4600 for the marquee. Initally they quoted me $7000! How much rsyc quoted you? When's ur wedding?

Serach,
Any special occasion? I prefer evening cos not so hot. Would b even better if you can catch the sunset...

Hi Zenn

My wedding will be 26 Jun next year. Supposed to be 5 June this year, so I booked around Sep last year. But postpone the wedding as MIL passed away just a few months before my wedding.

At that time Eddie told me its between $3K to $5K. Did you bargain with him before he reduced to $4.6K? That's a big difference between $7K and $4.6K! Does the marquee comes with the air breezer thing? I'm going to changed to a wedding luncheon instead of dinner so I think that aircon thing is quite important in case the guests faint from heatstroke

zenn

New Member
Hi fish,

Of course I did. Lucky I check out from 'outside' vendor so I told Eddie that I got a quote of $4k+. I queries how can it be so great diff. He spoke to his vendor and reduce to $4.6k. I dont know wat happened in btw but he said he prefers to use his as the vendor is more familiar wif the place.

No it does not comes wif the aircon thing. You have to pay for it.

Just curious why you having it for lunch instead of dinner? Are you going to sail in by boat too?

fish

New Member
Hi Zenn

Thanks for the info.....Hmm.... then I better get a few quotes myself. So if its not within my budget, I'll bring them in myself. I told my hubby you manage to get the marquee at $4.6K and he still think its too ex. He's considering forfeiting the deposit and switch to another location.... He rather use that sum of money to get a better menu for the guests....
sad.gif

Nope, I'm not sailing in by boat. Its just that 26 Jun is a Sunday, and last day of school holiday, so guests might feel a bit 'sian' to come. My auntie suggests to make it more convenient for the guests by having lunch reception so that they can have the rest of the day to rest. Also, she feels lunch reception suits the feel of RSYC better.

Maybe I'll opt for a sunset dinner so that it can end by 8pm instead... can also catch the sunset. I'll work this out later.

How's the weather on your wedding day? Are your guests receptive towards the outdoor dinner reception?

pearline

New Member
Hi Estella
I have the brief information. Are you talking about sit down dinner? The sit down is abt $468 in the ballroom and $620 for the foreshore area. As for the buffet style, I just called Eddie and he told me that he is going through some revision. Anyway, he is sick and preparing for the Jet Ski competition so mentioned that he will be more available in Dec. You can check it out again.

Fish,
I agreed that their marquee is damn exp....I commented that to Eddie too. I used to organize events for my ex-co and know that it's not so exp but then he commented that they use different type and only their vendor knows how to set up the marquee well there. He had cases when the couple actually get in those funeral type which affected the outlook of their club and there is a case whereby the outside vendor actually did not do the set up well and the whole tentage fell off and hit one of their staff. Hence, from then on, they stopped customers from bringing in their own vendor.
By the way, have you seen the Changi SAF Yacht club? I have not been there but made some enquiries recently and think the rate is ok but just that it's without marquee and I have not gone into the details with them yet. You can check with this lady Ms Jamie Lim @ 6389 3750. Her svc level quite good...hope this helps...

Hi fish n pearline,

I ve checked wif a few vendors n the price is around that range. Some are cheaper cos it does not comes wif 'internal cover' meaning you will see all the metals from inside and the plastic sheet which can be opened up in the event of rain.

Fish, you ve already made a deposit? Mine was a sun too. The whole wk pracitically was raining almost everyday but lucky thing its sunny on my AD. Phew...

I ve very gd comments and they feel that its a very romantic wedding. Put the hiccup one side, my hubby and myself had a great time too...

Pearline,
Oh seems like they ve increased the price for foreshore?

How many person you looking at cos I dont think Changi SAF yacht club can occupy too many. It's a nice place but compare to rsyc, I still think latter is better. Another place which I think equally nice will be Raffles Marina.

pearline

New Member
Hi Zenn

Yah loh, remember Raffles Marina is our favourite but the location is a real concern. Oh, how much was the price for your foreshore dinner? The $620 per table is inclusive of the marquee.

I am looking at hosting abt 250-300pax. I think Changi SAF Yacht club has no problem but the scenery definitely not as good. Wat abt Keppel Club? Have u did any research on them before?

fish

New Member
Hi Pearline

Thanks for the info.... no lar.... if I hold outdoor, I'll sure hold it at RSYC cos I lived in Clementi. Everytime I need to discuss something with Eddie, I can simply walk over to the club. Changi is too far off for me.... heeheheh... I'm lazy to travel so far.

Oh you mean now they actually have a fixed cost per table for holding at foreshore? Anyone knows what's quarterdeck? I saw that on their website but I don't recall Eddie mentioning that to me.

Hi Zenn

I placed my deposit last year cos my wedding was originally planned to be held this year. If I switch to another location, I'll definitely have to forgo the deposit. Just keep my fingers crossed that I don't need to pay 50% of total cost. If not, it'll really bleed me dry.

I think the romantic feel was what attracts me to RSYC that time. A few of my aunts are also quite excited about the place because they are sick of attending dinners at hotels or restaurants. But the only complaint is that its still a bit out of the way. That's why one of my aunt suggested that I do a wedding luncheon instead. But my cousin just reminded me that the club members might be sailing in and out in the afternoon, and so, its not very advisable to do lunch on the foreshore deck. So I guess if eventually I still hold my banquet at RSYC, I'll have to do it around sunset.

Hi all,
I am considering RSYC too. Met up the wedding coordinator at Raffles Marina, actually I am really interested in having my wedding there because the coordinator is really very experience and sweet. Again, distance is a great concern.

and I guess I better do some research before I really decide.
Can you ladies recommend me someone good at RSYC? I think a good coordinator is very important.

hey ladies,
there is a picture posted up by one of the bride to be, it is a lawn wedding set up at Raffles Marina. You can take a look at the Thread under "Raffles Marina Country Club". Looks really nice.
