Question on live band and sound system

If you have hired a live band and having the banquet in a hotel, does the hotel / band provide the sound system? We were told that the hotel only provides 2 microphones (which is linked to their speakers). The live band needs 2-4 microphones. Adding more than 2 microphones to the hotel speakers may cause interference (like the eeeeee sounds) hence it is suggested we pay more to get the 2-4 microphones and speakers for the live band.

Is this a common thing to do? o_O

It's common to have the live band bring their own sound system and pay extra for it. I did that too.

Hotel usually just provide very basic sound system so I don't suggest u tap on their system.

Hmm actually it might be best to just get the band to check the hotel's sound system, since sometimes you have to pay quite a bit more for the live band to bring their own sound system.

Thats the funny thing, the band we've engaged has performed countless times at the hotel we've booked. Yet they didn't clearly highlight to us we need extra speakers or microphones, merely indicating as part of the add-ons. They only kept emphasizing they need umbrellas/shelters and chairs for outdoor performance. Luckily we realise it now and not on the day of the wedding

Oh man that sounds quite bad, was it a lot more expensive to get the extra speakers and mics?
Since you guys are gonna be at a hotel it would be indoors so, a bit strange that they're so concerned with outdoor shelter hmm
Yeah luckily it was sorted out before the wedding :) when is it going to be?

p.s. on a side note, I'm glad I got my friend's band for my wedding, less of such trust issues :/

Hi may I know who did you engage for your wedding? Am looking for one now and would love to know more about your recommendation. Thanks!

With the hotel's recommendation, we decided to take the sound system from the live band as well. Since already paying for the band why not pay the additional so that the programme will not be ruined?

I engaged a four piece band with Ywenna Carollin as the singer from Love Notes. Didn't manage to sit down to listen to her sing except for my first march in but my guests had compliments on the quality.

Hi, for best insurance sake, the wedding band should quote and provide the full package, including a separate, professional sound system that they will bring, rather than rely on the hotel's. This is because the quality of the hotel's PA system cannot be guaranteed, esp. when you have a band that has full dynamic range sound, or if you really want to hear good, solid sounds (as opposed to the possibly 'thin' sounds coming out from the hotel's system - again, it depends on the ballroom itself).

Other times, the hotel will NOT allow the band to use the ballroom system for fear that the band might damage their in-house system, or limit the band to use the system with only 2 channels (so it won't overload the system)... Also, the hotel might NOT allow the band to 'mix' and adjust their sound system, leaving the band's sound poorly projected.

Given all these variables, it is wiser to just have the music band 'bao' everything so you will are assured. :)
