Prague - any advice?

Hi,
We are planning to visit Italy, Switzerland and Prague.Think we will nd to stopover at Austria to get to Prague. But I understand Eurail pass doesnt cover Prague. How do we get there fr Austria to Prague? What is the name of railway? Is Salzburg or Vienna nearer to Prague? Alternatively, is there any flight to Prague fr Switzerland/Italy? Thanks!

Hope you are still seeing this thread. I'm keen on booking the Chan brothers spain & portugal package that depts on 10th May and want to extend my stay to Prague too.
Are you going there F&E? I have yet to figure out how to go Prague from Madrid.

i plan to go to prague F&E, but am not too confident about planning my accomodation and getting my way around coz i hv never been to europe. i think the best way is prob through one of their internal budget airlines, coz its quite a distance away..i think u should go both if you have e time to spare!

then are you gg to spain still? Yeah, IF hubby agrees for me to extend in Madrid, then we will take a plane to Prague. i managed to find this openjet plan that costs a mere 407EUR only leh, so cheap.
But like you, I am not confident to travel around and this is my first time also.
Then what do you plan? Or you thinking taking up a Eastern Europe Tour package?

hi hi, I'm also planning my honeymoon to prague in may (spring time). Great to read all the fav reviews - been most helpful. I'm leaning towards F&E, followed by Cosmos/Trafalgar tours. I've some questions:
A) There's no direct flight into Prague, so is it better (cost, time etc) to
1) Stopover at Vienna/Paris/London/Berlin and transit into Prague
OR
2)Take a domestic flight from Vienna/Paris/London/Berin?
Which country would U recommend for a stopover or transfer to domestic? Any recommendation for domestic flight?
B) Travelling within prague. By foot? Metro - do we need to pre-book the tix (similiar to Eurorail?)
C) Travelling from Prague to nearby region eg Vienna, Budapest (hungary). Need to book train in advance online, or just go train station & buy?

i read from http://www.czechtourism.com that Prague hasnt adopted the Euro$, and using Czech Crown. Is this true or an outdated website?

ryes - i've not been to prague..but i was in Europe (western) many years back.
Basically things in europe are very expensive (due to strong euro). I think Europe is known for its crystal, branded stuff (LV, Gucci). For me, its basically to breathe in the air/atmosphere, be awed by the statues, squares, buildings, feast on the local food, and immerse myself into the environment/culture.

Just to add, I just came back from Prague 2 weeks ago and it was freezing!!! It was -10 and snowed for 2 days!!! But guess it was really pretty to see Prague covered in snow.

Also, just to let you know, they are still using the Crown and not Euros. Not sure if you can use Euros there as I didn't see any people using that. Exchange rate I got in London is: £1 to 43 crowns. Not sure if you can get it cheaper in SG.)

We intend to Fly to Vienna,then travel to Prague(4days)-Budapest(3days)-Vienna(2days)-Salzburg(2days)-Switzerland(8days). Right now really confuse as to whether to get Swiss pass, Europass, European East pass or what? Can anyone help? Which passes offer better deals and for my trip?

casper - i got lots of help from this forum "virtualtourist.com" check it out! Lots of links & tips, including rail, travelling between places, things to see etc.
If U havent book yr air tix, I would suggest U do
Prague first as Vienna is in the middle.
Prague - (can do day-trip to Brno on way to Budapest) - Vienna - Salzburg - Switzerland.

From Vienna, U can do day trip to Bratislava (Slovakia).

I'm interested to go to eastern europe, including prague, for my honeymoon in november. But i heard it's not a good time to go as it's winter. Besides the cold, the day hours are also shorter. Anyone has any experience/knowledge of how travelling in eastern europe around nov will be like? Tks!

What would you like to know? As mentioned, I was in Prague in Feb when it was snowing. Not sure how cold Prague would be in Nov (you might want to check the weather) but don't think it will be as cold as when I was there. It is true that the days are shorter but it depends on what you intend to do there. From my experience, I feel that Eastern Europe has a lot of nightlife (e.g. casinos, pubbing) so if you are into that, shorter days will not be a prob. But else you can rest after a tiring day of sightseeing.)

Just be extra careful when at crowded place, my friend got pick-pocketed near Charles Bridge. Went to Karlovy Vary (tink an hour from Prague by bus) to see the hot spring. Also remember to pay full amount when taking the subway or bus to avoid a hefty fine as the inspectors like to target tourists like us.

U can stay 3N in Prague and then travel overnight to Budapest or Vienna to stay another 3N.
Choosing between Budapest & Vienna depends on your interest. Budapest is famous for its baths. Vienna has its summer & winter palaces, museums etc. Vienna is more expensive & uses Euro.
I travelled from Prague -> Krakow -> Budapest -> Vienna all via train (some overnight as journey was 6-8 hours). Think there're coaches/buses too. Dont have info on those though.

when i went there in 2005, i took finnair and it was singapore -> bangkok -> helkinsi -> prague
Does it mean when u fly back also frm prague or u took open jaw? where did u buy the tix frm?
