Orchid Country Club

Hi rainbow, it really depends on the ppl attending. not includingg close frenz, most of mi relatives gave quite a lot,
i had some $60, but not an average, in fact more ppl gave $80 as a std figure.
so overall, we still manage to cover the costs of the dinner even though we picked the Menu 3. we were act prepared to make a loss. so if we had taken the cheapest menu, mght have even made profit. haha!

ya, easier if u keep to closer frenz and relatives, esp if relatives side, some will give u very little.

rainbow, occ and holiday inn very diff , hard to compare. thk depends on what u want overall i guess. good luck!

rainbow, just add in my 2 cents worth. The prices for the country clubs and hotels is almost the same. As my case, I decided to take a country club for my wedding banquet as I wanted a more relaxed atmosphere for my wedding, country club's food is usually much better than hotels as the clubs need to ensure members' satisfaction and will be rigorous in their food checks and lastly, in terms of the perks, I find the clubs are more negotiable than hotels. Imagine, some hotels are sticky in the number of carpark passes or wedding cards or LCD projector whereas I dun find such a problem with the clubs.

As for the Ang Pows, I think that if you and FH and your parents have been generous in the ang pows to other frens and relatives, you should receive the same in return.

Good luck in your decision.

i agree with fudgecake!!

kinda sianz now, cos FIL insists on having more tables. But we want to keep the dinner to just closer relatives and friends. We're not giving in for the time being.

i just met Adrew yesterday to discuss about the package details. I'm still considering whether to have my solemnisation at the lower foyer or just have it inside the function room. My solemnization will be in the morning 11am, dun noe whether will be too hot to have it at the foyer anot. Can anyone advise??

By the way, for the standard package, the minimum requirement is to have 10 table. But since I only going to take 7 tables, Andrew said that there's an extra charge for $700 dollars.... Can someone advise me whether it's worth??

Mrs Ong, are you looking at country clubs only? I think you can request pics of the set up from the clubs. I asked from OCC before and they send me pix of the ballroom. What other clubs are u shortlisting still?

Hi CGY,

I really like the to hv my solemnization at the lower foyer there... If do it inside the function room then no point for me to take OCC..

seah, why don't u do in the evening? I'm planning for mine to be at 6.30pm then followed by cocktail reception then dinner.

I've got some pics of the wedding set up at the foyer but its in my laptop which i left at my future laopo's place. I got those pics from OCC. But I think, the best is you yourself personally go down take a look and have a feel.

Hi GCY,

I've got the pictures of their lower foyer (after setup) also. It looked so nice and I really love it. That's the main reason that makes me consider OCC as my wedding venue. You do it at 6.30pm then you've sufficient time to take photo with your families and friends after your ceremony? I intend to make it in the afternoon coz it would be more convenient for my relatives who stay in malaysia to travel back after my wedding...

Actually I went down on last saturday but by the time I reached was almost 12 already. According to Andrew 11am is still ok, coz they've shelther and ceilling fan.

Don't mind can send me the package they offer to you? The one I got from them is the $508+++ one. And since I'm going to take 7 tables only, they ask for a surcharge of $700 (coz I want all the things included inside that package like flora deco, 1 night accommodation etc) My email add: [email protected]

For those having solemnization right before dinner, I've a question here...

I'm also having my solemnization right before my dinner. May I know what are you going to wear for the solemnization?

As I'm not going to have custom wedding, I'll wear my Wedding Gown for the solemnization (5.30pm) and will change my evening gown after that. I understand that usually brides wear wedding gown in day time and evening gown at night. So if i only wear my wedding gown in the evening, is it not very appropriate?

Haven't got chance to attend any solemnization right before dinner, so really need advise....

Hi Pierced,

Just sent you an private message regarding the OCC wedding card, please kindly check.

Hi pinky saw ur mail, will contact u shortly regards to the cards. the BS is quite alrite, the typical Bs, so u gotta know what u want and ask for what u are given. so far didnt have any major probs with them thru out mi wedding preps.

Hi Jillian, u dun have to have OCC membership to sign up with their packages juz that if u havev someone with the membership, it can waive off the 10% svc charge.

puroland, thk u can contact OCC directly for the perks coz mine was quoted in end04 so it might be diff fr the revised package.they will reply u pretty quickly. if u need pics on the ballrm, can share with u mi AD pics of it. u can request to go down and view the place, ask when a wedding is being held so u can see the set up as well.

Hi puroland, have sent u mi AD pics. the OCC pics are rite near the end of the photos. gotta scroll thru the whole lot.
i dun have OCC membership but i got a fren to sign for mi instead for the contract.
itz very simple, maybe u can try asking ard for any members. all they have to do is to give u their membership no. and sign the contract. that's all.

Hi pierced,

When is the latest that we have to pay the deposit? Can we pay after the contract is signed by both myself and the OCC member?

As for the grand sum, can we pay on the next day after AD since on that day is so busy and tired?

Else is there any intalment plan (ie: UOB)?

pierced22

New Member
puroland, try asking ard .fren of fren oso can...

ribena, we delayed the payment coz we didnt have time to go down to pay up the sum. contract sent in first den paid up deposit.
the sum is settled the next morn after ur AD, when checking out.
not too sure about instalment plans, u mean tied up with OCC? we extended credit with our creditcard that's all.

hi all,
i went down to meet with andrew ytd, din manage to see the ballroom as there is another function going on. I check with andrew if i could have my solemisation at a garden or poolside, he mention extra cost. As i was leaving the place i saw the yishun lake garden resturant. It seems pretty ok as they have this nice view where u can see the golf course. Anyone has done their dinner banquet at the resturant? Need some feedback.

I would also like to find out if anyone has done the solemisation at OCC, how is the setup like? I really like the garden /poolside view. But if i have to pay for the solemisation then i will consider taking the resturant to balance out the cost. Any suggestions?

pierced22

New Member
puroland, i had mi food tasting at the rest and i realised that act itz much cheaper if u take the package to hold at the rest coz minus off the frills of the ballroom. so depends on what u really want as the rest is a bit those typical chinese rest set up, although food wise itz the same.

puroland

New Member
hi pierced, thanks for your feedback, glad to know that food wise is good, cos i saw from the other thread on yishun safra resturant, it has a bad remark on the food, eventhough its run by the same boss as the yishun lake garden.

pierced22

New Member
puroland, oh izit? i didnt know they have the same boss, but the service staff there are all good, esp the rest mgr, very helpful when u are doing the food tasting, will advice u on which dishes are gd and should be served first or later,
but no worries coz the food was good. havent tasted the safra one bef so cannot comment on that.

Andrew just get back to me that he cannot let me rent the poolside/lower floyer for evening as he cannot blocked off the venue inbetween 2 session (lunch reception / dinner reception). But if i sign up the dinner banquet then he can rent it to me at a cost.... however he suggest another venue which he can rent to me and without having to confirm the dinner banquet, he mention its at the golf club hse, where there is an area with cemented ground, can see the golf course. Anyone has any feedback on this area for solemisation?

pierced22

New Member
puroland, i know the place. saw it bef when i went there. quite a nice place.it reminds mi of botanic garden those house with glass windows. u can go and view and see if u like it too.

puroland

New Member
hi pierced, nice to hear that, me going this sat to view the place, but the price they quote is very costly for just the rental. still thinking if its is worth to spend the money.

pierced22

New Member
puroland, ic, expensive den maybe u view the place and then try to negotiate with Andrew on the price. aft all, not much other places u can actually hold it so they might be able to give u a better rate?

puroland

New Member
hi, i went to meet up with their so call floor or dun know wat manager, because andrew is not in. I am totally pissed off by their service and attitude. The manager does not know wat is discuss between andrew and us. He is merely showing us the place. The place is nothing fantasic, and there are 5 to 9 of these flag poles which are ugly as well. The price he quote me does not include deco, so we negotiate if they could lower down the rental price, he give us an attuide that if u are not taking the package (lunch/dinner solemisation) then the price would be FIXED. This is our standard rate. When ask of what will be provided like table and chairs, a lot of things he is unsure. I give up on them and i sign with Yishun Lake Garden which provide me a better service.
