Novotel Clarke Quay

Staybeautiful,

I think maybe your expectation was high or you are just unlucky. My feedback on the food quality is quite good but quantity was rather little. On the other hand, got really good feedback on the yam paste so maybe it's a good choice to take. However it's a little bit dry after all the courses, you may want to settle for something more watery as last dish.

Staybeautiful < I agree with Ryan that the food was quite good during my wedding banquet. And Novotel banquet is by a quite famous "long feng restaurant"... and for that I'm sure the standard of food would not be too bad....
I do admit that during food tasting the food was not really that good... but on my wedding night the food was quite good... u must be wondering how i knw?! well they send our supper to us... and its the same dishes as the banquet....and so far I have no complaints from my guests....

Staybeautiful,

During our food tasting, we had a few common on some of the dishes. During exact day, so far no one complain about the foods. Most of the guests I asked will very happy and satifised with the food. Some of my friend which are "Boss" level quite like the ambience for my wedding in Cinnamon Room.

I also agree with Happiness&Bliss as during the wedding nite, the foods that we didnt get to eat will also send to our room but the quality of the food is good. Maybe your expectation is too high, maybe you got chance you tried other hotels then you can compare to NCQ.

Happiness,

What did they send to your room as supper? The quantity they sent to us can hardly fill up our stomach after all the work we had. HA ha

hi blurgroom's bride: here's my comments

1) i had one free barrel of beer and 50 complimentary of wine. so Jaime advised me to start serving the beer & wine when the guests get seated in the ballroom.. no complains from my guests abt this arrangement..

2) 1st march-in, then cake cutting.. then 2nd march-in, champange pouring..

3) I've having 49 tables in total, the time I spent for photo-taking abt one hour.. really got to depends on ur helpers who help u arrange the tables & ur PG.. very important that ur PG follows what arrangement ur helpers make.. not in his own ways.. so for mine, it's considered very fast.. chop chop..

4) will all ur dinner guests be there for the solemnisation? or just family members?? if everyone is there , then time is not much of a issue.. say put at 6.30pm, people will sure be late, then ur solemnisation starts at 7.30pm, dinner commences 8.00pm.. should be good.. of course u can always play ard with ur time.. another way is to ask HL abt it.. she should be experienced to tell u what time to start ur solemnisation would be better..

hi ryan: I also feel the food they send up to the room not enough.. or are we just too hungry?? like just a small portion of everything..

Ryan < they send the dishes of what was on our menu to us... for us the portion looks small... i did not really eat cos was quite full after all the drinking from the guests "tekan" session...hahaha

I guessed food really depend heng or suay too because my friend told me the food turned out to be different from food tasting. But then again, as for the price paid for novotel, i think it is still worth considering if you are looking for ambience and location.

As for dessert, i would advise NCQ couples to take up the yam paste as compared to cream of mango. Well, this is just my suggestion
happy.gif

Anyway after two months of information gathering on many banquets. I have shortlisted some venues. What do you all think?

- Furama Riverfront (great perks, not too bad setting but one friend complaint food not nice).
- NCQ (parents complaint food not nice, but we don't mind the setting and location)
- Le meridien (love the setting but a bit cramp, food not so sure)
- Grand Copthorne Waterfront (just attended this recently, love the setting, food, ambience, setting and service but dunno if my dates is considered as auspicious date to them or not.. becoz auspicious date is around $1388 per table)
- Plaza Park Royal Kitchener Road (cheap but bf hated the location)
- Raffles Town Club (like the ballroom and food but plus and minus more ex than hotel)
- Orchid Country Club ( like the ballroom, food and the buggy march in but more ex than certain hotels too)...
- Sheraton Towers (like the ballroom, food not so sure becoz i have it about 5 years ago. but abit on the high side becoz one table almost hit $1200)

Any feedbacks for me? I am looking at around 45 to max 50tables like this.. It is been very tough for me because i have to accomodate both side parents request. My parents are concerned about the food because his business friends are all very particular on food and on the other side of the family is looking at location and ambience because of their relatives.. Haiz.. Dunno what we should do. As for me,if possible.. I would rather go for a good honeymoon. Can someone save me?

Staybeautiful,

I think it's not possible to ensure the food standard. Everyone had different taste bud and what is good for one may not be good for the others. There will always be some criticise for the food no matter what. For me, as long as the food is decent it is fine with me.

I have to agree with most of the people that the ambience at Novotel is quite good. Some of my guests complimented on the effects and really like it.

Just one point to note, if you are choosing the cinnamon ballroom, you cannot take the same lift from the bridal suite straight to the 5th floor. You have to move across the reception area to the main lift to go to 5th floor. I think the Phoenix ballroom had no such problem.

Happiness,

I can't really remembered what they sent to me because i was a little bit tipsy by that time. But i remembered only 3 dishes, and they didn't sent me the dessert yam paste.. sigh

I didn't even know the next morning had breakfast, actually didn't think about it but i thought it would be nice if i am told at the reception when i checked in. They don't have breakfast vouchers etc, that would had reminded me. Ha ha. Never tried Singapore hotel breakfast before because since when do we need to stay in a Singapore hotel except this one time, so i thought i must eat.. sgih.. heh

And they forgot to send me the fruit cake in the morning (maybe i was sound asleep?). Still waiting for HL to reply me after close to 2 weeks after my AD. Already after my AD, maybe she heck care me liao.. Ha ha

RJ,

I don't agree with the solenimzation timing. Blurgroom, if you want a solemnization before the dinner, you make to remind your guests not to be late and to end before 7pm. Because it is not polite to skip the cocktail as that is the time when you welcome the guests and talk to them, make them feel welcome and take pictures with them. They always want to take pictures with the groom and bride and cocktail is the best time. Once dinner starts, hardly any time to do that. And the guests usually like to pass you the ang bao directly instead of using the ang bao box. I experienced that so be present at the cocktail. It's important.

My guests was quite early, some reached before 7pm and i only reached like 7.10pm and i heard a couple saying "where is the bride and groom" like not very happy like that.

Staybeautiful,

Like that difficult to please both sets of parents. Unless you got budget, some time back my parents attend a wedding, the couple book a ballroom and engage their own cook or chef. In the end, the cost of per table is also more than 1k during that time and the dinner turn out quite nice. But since both sets of parents were rich so they can do it.

Anyway some of mine friends during food tasting the foods were good but during exact day some of the foods didnt manage to keep the food tasting standard. Need to see your budget, got budget evrything can rite? Else request for executive chef to cook? Just a two cents suggestion.

hi everyone,

saw from current package as posted in their website, if taking cinammon ballroom, have to pay 50% for food tasting then will only have deluxe room instead of bridal suite.
is it true or did anyone taking cinnamon ballroom manage to negotiate for better perks?

Ryan < the cake should be in yr room when u go back after the dinner... mine was in my room... but cos it was place on the table (open, they did leave the box at the side) but bcos we were too full and a little tipsy, we forgot to keep the cake till the next morning then we realise..haiz...
They did send us the dessert lei, and even the shark fin... heehehe... but too full and bloated from all the drinking to eat...
I nearly forgot abt breakfast till hubby reminds me. Then we call the reception and they told us to go straight to 7th floor restaurant for the breakfast.... ya I do agree that they should at least inform us of the breakfast when we check in...
Oh and cos my hubby uses his car as bridal car. The car was very dirty when we collected it the next morning cos of ceiling leak... my BIL says we should make a complaint so that no one will be in the same plight as us... what is yr opinion? I was tinking its over so i did not bother to complaint...

Happniess,

I think you should feedback to them, it's not necessary as a complaint but to inform them, or else how do they improve?

I surely didn't see any cake when i returned from the dinner because i had my supper at the table. And they give you the shark's fin and dessert? Wah lao double standard huh?

I sent a 2nd email to HL 2 days ago and she have yet to reply me.

Bride09,

I got bridal suite even though i signed up with cinnamon ballroom. They upgraded for me themselves, i didn't ask for it. I only knew it when i met up with HL to choose the wedding flavor 2 weeks before the AD.

Even the helper's room which i book for standard room, they upgraded for free so that it is next to our bridal suite.

I guess the room is empty so they give it to us. We are lucky ba. Our AD is on a Monday.

Ryan < hahaha.... i don knw if its double standard la... maybe we are just lucky... HL sometimes might take a while to reply email, why don u give her a tinkle?
I tink for us who sign up last yr and had our wedding this yr, we are given bridal suite and food tasting free. But for 2009 package i also heard if sign cinnamon room only will have standard room, and foodtasting need to pay 50%...
But i did not get the helper's room. Cos my wedding last Saturday, its F1 race day....haiz...

Yesterday night the F&B manager Kelvin called me regarding all my raise issues. Not much to talk about since it is over, but on the fruit cake issue he had offered to deliver to my place today and he upgraded to a 1kg oreo cheese cake.

It's a nice gesture but i hope the cake is not poisoned. HA HA HA

Just had my food tasting last thursday and this is what i choose Pleasure package:

1. Appetizer --- Suckling pig with a) Roast "Char Siew", b) Drunken Chicken, c) Spring Roll, d) Century Eggs
2. Soup --- Braised Premier Moon-Cut Shark's Fin with Fresh Crab Meat & Roe
3. Poultry --- Braised Chicken with Stuffing in Oyster Sauce
4. Fish --- Steamed Garoupa with "Hong Kong Style"
5. Seafood --- Poached Live Prawns
6. Vegetables --- Stewed Mixed Mushrooms with Broccoli
7. Rice --- Steamed Fragrance Rice in Lotus Leaf
8. Dessert --- Cream of Mango with Pomelo

overall all are good only exception is the fish, as due to the size tends to be tough, this is normal applies to all hotels and restaurants so we intend to keep it as it is

Hi Bride09, mine is cinnamon room for 2009 banquet. For the food tasting, i did not want to pay anything so they offered me free food tasting for 6 pax instead. Maybe you can ask about this. For the bridal room, yes its only a deluxe room, not a suite...i've tried asking for a suite but was turned down. They are quite strict from my experience. I'm not planning to take their complimentary wedding invites, so i may ask if i can upgrade...but probably very hard lar, since mine in Dec and its on a Sat...i guess will also depends on when ur AD is, see if its during the so-called peak period...

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all ur advices and suggestions. Really appreciate. =)

I'm also having 1 barrel of beer and 1 bottle of wine per table. I think I'll instruct the hotel staff to serve only upon request.

As for the solemnization, can't really play by time, cos we need to give the JP a fixed timing. We wanted to change the timing to 630 instead of 6 but the JP has another appointment at 630, so we can only stick to 6. But I agree with wat Ryan said, I want to be there to recieve the guests and mingle with them, so 6 would be a safer timing, not so rush.

Wow, R&J, 1 hr for 49 tables is really fast...I must aim to be like you, want more time to talk to my guests, and not just busy taking photos leh. In fact I was thinking if I can ask my PG to take photos of me and my frens during cocktail, then skip those tables during the table phototaking to save some time. Dunno if it's feasible.

Hi All.

Anyone has the floor plan of Pheonix Ballroom for 40 tables? Can send a copy to me? My email is [email protected].

Had anyone here take the helper's room before? Would the hotel arrange for the helper's room to be near the bridal suite?? How much does it cost?

Thanks.

I paid $225++ for the standard room but i know the rates are now higher. I asked them to list the rate in the contract abt a year ago to avoid paying for the inflated room price.

If i am not wrong, the room beside the bridal suite are superior twin or something like that, you may want to check.

thanks ryan & cheeky chick..
mine will b a sun, can can try asking...
food tasting for 6 pax also not bad...no need so many ppl hehejust parents and couple...

Yes, can use overnight... i think if i am not wrong, i asked abt using for the day and it is $150++ (not too sure) and have to check out by 6pm.

My food tasting was for 6 pax but i think the hotel made a mistake and they prepared 10 pax share for us. In the end 6 of us had 10 person share. But the quantity wasn't that much so the food was finished.

Ann,
that depends when u sign the contract, for me my helper's room was 100++ from 2-8pm.. i got one overnight room also and it costs me 195++

wa.. our contract stated a standard room is 245++ per room per nite!!! day use is 125++ (2-6pm).. our wedding is in july 2009 thou.. so not sure is it their "market rate" for 2009 then..

pannie

Oh... mine wrote helper's room is 100++ from 2-8pm but didn't write overnight room cost how much.

But mine during december, 2 days after Xmas, dunno the overnight room rate will increase or not.

ryanon123

if they state it in the contract, then they must obliqued. That is why i asked them to indicate it so that we won't pay for the inflated price in the future.

Ya i think i was quoted $100++ for day only too.

pannie

I just called NCQ and spoken to Kelvin. Huiling is on urgent leave. He told me that the std rms are all fully booked on 27th Dec, only superior rms left. So instead of $100++, I have to pay $135++. If take full day, it's $260++. So I quickly confirm the room with him. Or else later he told me superior room fully booked, need to booked for suite at higher pricing.

I also understand from another forumer that the std rooms for Nov & Dec are fully booked. So for those who had yet to book the helper's room from them, better do so fast.

Hi all
Had my wedding on 5 Oct sunday.
Although got slight hiccups, that did not dampen our wedding mood.

One thing to remind the btb in Oct 2009,
please take note that it is school examination week.
Better double check with the parents with schooling children, if they confirmed coming.
Because the attendance for my wedding falls short.
On average , 7 pax filled the tables. 2 confirm tables (not reserve table)empty, never open. haiz....
I got many relatives with kids, having their PSLE or year end exam on Monday.
So they decided to supervise their kids at home.
Anyway, I understand that and the event is over.

Overall, my wedding is a success one.
And hubby and I never regret choosing NCQ.
My banquet manager on that evening was Lis.
She is really friendly and cool.

B4 the first march in, she will remind us not to be nervous, kept smiling and served us with glass of warm water.
Next, she really got her way to tame my naughty flower girl, without raising her voice. Impressive
happy.gif

She also help us to control the wine consumption.
She make sure that the waiters/waitresses pour the wine in the ideal level. Not in full glass.
Otherwise, will be wasteful. So our total wine consumption for 31 confirmed tables were 39 bottles. Not too bad
The best of her was that, during the table to table photo taking, she kept following us.
Maybe during the breifing, did mention to her that hubby cannot hold liquor and got 2nd Egown to wear.
Whoever want to "sabo" us with any liquor, she will help us to "escape",
by saying "Sorry, the bride need to change to next outfit." So we managed to "siam". Cool girl, heehee...
She stay with us throughout the event.
I praise her service is really excellent.

The whole event was enjoyable and unforgettable.

Hi all,

just wonder if anyone ever had banquet at Cinnamon for 26 tables? we have problem calculate the number of guess, and end up having around 26 or 27 tables, and worried it will be too squeeze. My AD will be on 25 oct. I want to change to Phoenix, but it's already taken

Also anyone using live music for cinammon? do you rent a speaker?

ryanon123

actually the ballroom is designed for 24 tables, but can squeeze up to 26 if really needed. But 27 tables, it sounds like too much. I had 21 tables + 2 reserved and i already find it a little bit crampy.

duffy_75

I got my wedding with 24 Tables + 2 spare which is max 26. The space is quite okie. Need to take note for the floor plan for 26 tables. I used my table 3 as one of my spare as the projector screen is directly behind this table. So if possible duno arrange anyone to sit there. I don't think is possible to squeeze to 27 tables. Coz for 26 tables, the stage size is reduced already.

If 27 tables maybe too squeeze and you may have problem during photo taking. Maybe you can check NCQ, that time I also thinking 27 but went to see the site survey when there is a dinner for 26 tables and decideded to stick to 26 tables.

Hi people. My dinner is coming soon next month. We have 50 tables.

1) May I know roughly how much wine and beer and hard liquor will be consumed if we serve once the guests are seated and if we serve only when the dinner begins? BTW, i am getting 1 barrel + 1 bottle per table package.

2) Anyone managed to bring in duty free hard liquor? is it accepted in NCQ?

3) Any suggestion if some of my friends want to drink with us after the dinner ended? Can we actually hog the ballroom?
