Hi all

I'm considering SMC as well. Like the place, settings and its 'one' ballroom concept.. hehe.. kind of make the wedding special..

Have been reading around the forum.. seems like the food is good and huge portion.. glad to hear that..

The lunch package they offer is standard.. couldn't get any perks like free day use room for helper or wine/table.. only giving us 12 bottles..

Can i have your advise if 12 bottles is enough? i'm intending to book around 26~28 tables..

thanks!

Jhun: ya I think must est abt 1bottle p/table.
I also taking their package bt may take away e beer & replace all wif red wine. Then at least it's more & I no need to worried for both if it finishes b4 banquet ends. I will only open e red wine if reli insufficient..

Piggy love: wow cool, thks then I shall proceed to remain Tis dish in my lunch menu

Anyway, it's been a month since my wedding at SMC. Everything went very well... From the time we checked-in till check-out, it was an extremely wonderful experience (VVIP treatment!). Pre-dinner snacks were delicious too (Fish & Chips are a must try).

Feedback from the guests: Food portions were generous and tasted good. My dad thinks that the food tasted better than what we had during the food tasting session.

Wedding Auspicious Dates 2013.pdf (349.1 k)

Quite disappointed at the way Swissotel Merchant Court defines their so called "auspicious dates" if you can see the attached calendar for yr 2013.

127 days, excluding public holidays, is considered as AUSPICIOUS & a $100++ surcharge applies.

The catering sale rep never bother inform me that the date I had made tentative booking on is an auspicious date until we asked like 2 days after the tentative booking.

We are none the wiser on the hotel policy and is really upset by such irresponsible sale ethic!!

Hi Arielz,

I'm interested in SMC as well... Can you share who is your co-ordinator? From the list of auspicious date u provide, seems like I'm under the category

Hello!

I've a dinner banquet - Cinnamon Ballroom @ Novotel Clarke Quayon 22 December 2013, Sunday to transfer. The date cannot be changed but it is a general auspicious date for wedding

Details are as follow:

- $200 off per table ($928 nett)
- free flow beer
- free flow wine
- additional night stay in bridal suite (2 nights in total)
- champagne and cake in room
- free weekend high tea buffet for 2
- 25% parking coupon
- complimentary food tasting for 10 pax

I have yet to choose the theme/menu. You can mix & match the dishes so long as the final value of the banquet balances out. For info, i have also checked with them on the no. of servers for the banquet. There will be 3 servers to 4 tables and additional serves for beverages.

do let me know if you're keen! [email protected]

Any good coordinator to recommend?

Hi clubbymouse~ their package is here http://singaporebrides.com/hotels/swissotel_merchant_court/
I've met up with Francis already. The package doesn't have much difference to what is stated. but they can throw in some additional %tage for carpark and wedding invitation cards by a little. for lunch, there's no upgrade of the bridal room to suite even if no one is using the room. Depending on your date, they might also waive off the auspicious date cost(for mine yes)~ and if you get more tables they might also throw in 1 bottle of wine for each table~ There's also complimentary use of a function room for solemnization or tea room.

i'm not sure about good coordinator lei~ Francis is ok but probably wont look the best on first impression.
i'm wowed by orchard hotel coordinator. haha

Hi tigerjos, thanks for the information. Looks like its hard to negotiate for more perks.
Am quite keen in SMC but am afraid that we can't get 35 tables and also its slightly above our budget.
Have went to parkroyal upper pickering, grand park cityhall and concorde.
Sad that the first 2 choices doesn't fit after confirming that we have around 30-32 tables.
Concorde fit but we are very concern about the food as the refreshment served during the wedding show is not nice.
Hence we have to go hotel shopping again and we have budget to keep, around $1200 per table.
Any good recommendation?

What about novetel?

There's a wedding show this week that you might want to check out?
http://campaign.herworldplus.com/hwbweddings2013/

I'll probably go with orchard hotel for their wedding lunch ^^
Dun wanna hold dinner to save both the guest and our cost haha

Thanks for the info. Will check with my SO if he want to go down and have a look since there are a few participating hotels.
Personally, we do not have good impression on Novotel. Went for 2 banquet dinner last year and the food wasn't impressive.
The cinnamon ballroom was so cramp and the waitress spill chinese tea on my SO and on my phone.
Quite frustrated with their service and they kept chatting while my friends were giving speech on the stage.
I understand that these can happened anywhere but our impression of them was bad even before venue selection.

Personally, I am quite keen on Orchard Hotel too. My only concern is shared foyer and price.
But I did attend a friend wedding which she took 2 connecting ballrooms and the last room was left empty
hence allowing her to have the whole floor. The ballroom and stage were big and impressive.
Food was alright too except for the noodle which was quite blend. But overall, its good.

Ah~ icic~ I believe you are looking at wedding dinner right? What abt places like crown plaza changi or amara or holiday inn?
I think it's not as costly~ I've heard of pretty good reviews for crown plaza but I've nv been there and I did not research on the cost of it~
My fiancé got poured orange juice the last time he went to Smc to attend a wedding banquet haha
Your review on orchard hotel made me a little more confident on our choice ^^ we intend to change the noodle to the flower bun with chilli crabmeat sauce hehe~ We also do hope that our connecting ballroom does not have a wedding held but then our date is a pretty auspicious date so I pretty much doubt it will be possible haha
Why don't you consider holding a weddin lunch instead and give yourself a bigger budget? =)

Yes, I am looking at wedding dinner. My SO parent prefered dinner to lunch as some relatives and friends have work commitment during the day.
So the spilling of drinks happenend everywhere, its really the matter of luck. Just hope it don't happened to our guest. :X
Flower bun with chilli crab meat sound very tempting. I am sure your guest will love them.
I always feel noodle and rice are not good choices as I usually feel quite full after those main dishes.
Don't know if you share the same thot. One of my friend combine her last 2 dishes and served baked alaska as dessert.
It was huge and impressing. Actually 30tables is kind of stuck between many options.
Think i will still make an appointment with SMC and a few other hotels before final decison.
Guess it will take another couple of months to settle.

Have you sign up your bridal? Any recommendations?
I am 2 choices in mind. La belle and My dream wedding but heard quite a few bad comments.

Icic~ no choice then~ ya~ let hope it does not happen to us lol

We cannot cut items as his parents find that having even number of dishes for the wedding matters
And for the flower bun, my coordinate is nice enuff to suggest us to keep the original menu first and during the food tasting, pay the extra cost for it then decide whether or not to upgrade as some time old ppl might not like the taste =)

Yea~ if you do not have the restriction of dates then you can use a bit more time to decide =)
I've signed up a bridal package already with French Bridal~ which I've seen both good and bad reviews in forum~ so I guess it's luck base~ haha I'm not sure abt the 2 bridal that you've mention (which is good, means ppl ard me did not hear bad things) =))
Eventually no matter how good or bad ppls review are, it's up to u to decide upon~ see which bridals gown do you like the most and see forums to know who are the good or bad coordinators

Oh, she just used 2 dishes in exchange for 1 expensive dessert. So her final number of dish is 8 instead of 9.
Your coordinator is quite helpful to suggest that and i do agree in trying the dishes before serving them to your guests.

My SO mum is still in the midst of getting the date for us. But we requested for Oct or Nov 2014.
Hopefully able to get a good date that fall on a weekend.
I have not heard of French Bridal but will check out on them.
Do you mind sharing your package?
Maybe you can pm or email me at [email protected]
We can offline exchange views instead of hogging this thread. :)

Can I check with ya, I noticed there are another small rooms Rosewood A& B sharing the same foyer as the main ballroom. Would that be a concern? If there were other events in Rosewood, the foyer would be shared?

The email reply I received was the same 2 names u mentioned. Met melissa for viewing. Can I check if SMC give wedding booklet like most of the hotels do? They didn't give me any and I only realised after I went home.

What wedding booklet are you referring to? I'm holding my wedding there March 2014 so I've some docs with me.. If you need I can send you.
