    Hi David,

my hubby and I wanted to choose 2010 dates for our AD, but we heard that the tong shu for 2010 is not out yet. Is there anyway to select good dates for our AD?

    Thanks!

    Hi Happygirlgirl,

Yes you can still select your wedding dates using a combination of other date selection techniques as well as both you and your spouse's Bazi. In fact, for wedding dates selection, the Bazi for both of you has to be taken into consideration. This is very important as date selection using Bazi (in combination with other techniques) is much more precise than using the Tong Shu alone, which is very generic. And with this method, we can select dates for ANY year, including 2010 dates, which is very popular now since most of the auspicious 2009 weekend dates are now almost fully booked if you are signing up with hotels.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hi David,

    Is 3rd Oct'09 auspicious for ROM/AD?

    Regards,

    Hi Valerie,

Yes, 3rd Oct 09 is an auspicious date for ROM/AD.

However, this is a general auspicious date for wedding only. It does not take into account many other factors of date selection such as clashes to your parents, clashes to your Bazi etc etc. It also did not take into account analysing both your Bazi to ensure that this day is specifically good for both your Bazi. All this factors are important in the selection of wedding dates.

Most of the time, when the Tong Shu or Chinese Almanac state that a date is good for marriage, it may not necessary be good for you or your spouse as it doesn't take into account all these factors. It is just a very general auspicious date.

    Hope this helps Valerie [IMG]

    Hi David,

    Hi Serene,

In general, these are not ideal dates for wedding.

To be precise and accurate, the Bazi (birthday and time of birth) of both of you as well as your parents' must be taken into account in wedding dates selection. Otherwise, it will be a very generic date selection and a general good day can still turn out to be bad for both of you if it doesn't suit both your Bazi or if there are any clashes to your parents etc.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hi Jeslyn,

1st Oct 2010 is not a good date for wedding. For 11th Nov 2010, it is a slightly better date, but not ideal. There are far more better dates that can be chosen.

    Hi greentwinkle,

Normally for date selection for wedding, the couple's Bazi is compulsory. For parents, we only need to use their animal zodiac signs (eg, Rabbit, Horse, Rat, Snake etc). There is no need for their Bazi. This is to ensure that the day selected for your wedding don't clash with any of your parents.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hi Noknok,

The most important thing in home renovation is to select an auspicious date and time for the start of renovation, and subsequently the date and time for moving in to your new house. These dates are not picked from the Tong Shu or Chinese Almanac which is too generic. The date is selected according to the feng shui of your house as well as the birth data of the occupants. It is a very precise date selection technique using what we call Xuan Kong Da Gua Date Selection.

If moving in or start of reno on an inauspicious date, it will "activate" the negative Qi in your house.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hi Venus,

Unfortunately, I can't advise you on that based on the year of birth. That will be far too generic and will result in wrong calculations. The whole Bazi has to be taken into account to be accurate.

  24. cmg_consulting

    cmg_consulting Active Member

    Hi Blue_Diamond,

In 2009, it is the year of the Ox. And in Chinese Metaphysics, Ox and Goat clash. From the Bazi Destiny Analysis perspective, it isn't necessary a bad year as you will have to see in your Bazi what the Ox and Goat means to you. It might even turn out to be a good year!

But from wedding date selection perspective, it is not advisable to get married on the year that clashes with your birth year. So in 2009, people born in year of the Goat will clash with the Ox year next year, so it is usually not advisable to get married in 2009.

If you really must, do it before 4th Feb 2009 as it still belongs to the year of the Rat!

    Hi David,

My future father-in-law just passed away last Sat night. I have a few questions to ask if you don't mind:

    1. Both of our families are Cantonese, do we have to get married within 100 days (if we want to) or have to wait after 3 years? This 'rule' applies for ROM or for AD only? I have heard conflicting accounts, some say this rule applies for Hokkiens only, Cantonese can hold their AD right after 100 days but others say this 'rule' stands regardless of what dialect group you belong to.

    2. My future wife was born in the year of the Tiger, myself in the year of the Rabbit. Is 2010 a good year to get married? Considering it's her year (year of the Tiger)

    3. My ROM is just 2 months away from now, can we still proceed with it even though her father just passed away?

    Many thanks

    Hi Glamourous,

20th Sep 09 is not a good day for wedding. For 21st Sept 09, yes it is a good day. However, for your info, it is a very general good date and does not take into account both your Bazi and parents' animal signs. This day may still end up to be a bad day if it doesn't suit both your Bazi or if there are clashes to your Bazi and parents.

No, 2009 does not clash with year of the monkey or rabbit.

    Hope this helps, Glamourous [IMG]

    Hi indianger,

According to Chinese beliefs, usually 3 months before and after your own wedding, you are not suppose to attend other people's wedding or funerals/wakes. So it is not advisable to attend your friend's wedding. I believe he or she will understand since they are getting married too [IMG]

    Hi Glamourous,

Yes the Tong Shu or Chinese Almanac will indicate an auspicious date for wedding. But that is a general auspicious date. Look at it this way. If there is a particular date good for wedding, can it be good for every single person in the whole world?

Sometimes I wish date selection is that easy, but it isn't. In HK, date selection is a very specialised skill by itself. There are practitioners that specialised in date selection only and nothing else. There are many classic Chinese Metaphysics literatures that is devoted solely to Date Selection alone and there are many different techniques for different purpose of date selection (eg, selection of wedding dates uses different techniques from selection of dates for moving in or start of renovation)

For wedding dates, the Tong Shu will only tell you this day is good for wedding. But it will not tell you if this day clashes to a particular element in both your Bazi which is very important for marriage purpose. It will also not tell you if that particular day's elements (technically known as Jia Zi) is good for your Bazi. For eg, if your Bazi is very strong in Fire, you don't want to select a day that is very strong in fire. You have to choose a day that contains the elements that your Bazi chart needs or lack of. If the Tong Shu says that this date is good for wedding but that day's elements is not suitable for your Bazi, it is still consider a bad day.

Of course, these are just tip of the iceberg for wedding dates selection. There are still many other formulas and techniques that you have to apply to arrive at a personalised good wedding date. Often, most people misunderstood that selecting wedding dates is as easy as flipping the Tong Shu, but in actual fact, it involves a lot of work to arrive at a good date. Using the Tong Shu alone is not enough.

I hope this clarifies some of your confusion. It is not easy for me to explain without getting too technical here [IMG]

    Hi David,

I understand where U are comin from in regards to the Bazi and all. =)
But I only wanted to know in GENERAL ASPECTS, is 20th Sept 2009 a good day for wedding/ marriage?

Coz in your former posting you mentioned its not.
But in your later posting, you mentioned is a general auspicious date? So am confused by this only.

Also, do people consider chinese tea ceremony date or solemization as the actual wedding date?
Coz my wedding for both the above is spilt days on 20th and 21st Sept 2009.

    cmg_consulting Active Member

    Hi Glamourous,

I don't think I did post that 20th Sep 09 is a good date for wedding [IMG]

If you consider ROM and Tea ceremony on different days, the ROM is more important as it is the acutal wedding date. That is the day both of you sign on the marriage certificate and become officially husband and wife.

But of course, marriage is such an important event that whenever possible, we want to select both days (ROM and Tea ceremony) to fall on an auspicious day.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hey David,

My apologise for the confusion. What I meant is you did mention that 20th Sept 2009 is not a good date, however, the chinese calendar states that its a good date. So what Im trying to derive is just the general date itself - whether its auspicious a not thats all. Not reading into the Bazi and other factors.

My Tea ceremony is 20th Sept 2009.
Hotel Banquet + ROM is on 21st Sept 2009.

So in this case, is my wedding date considered at 20th or 21st Sept? I have heard so many variations of it... some say 20th is the wedding date, some say 21st is the wedding date... so what is the truth? =)

    Hi Glamourous,

I understand your frustration about all these date selection thingy and the variations you may have heard of. Let me clarify further a bit why I don't favour using Tong Shu for selecting dates.

Different publications of the Tong Shu from different countries as well as the online/internet version from different websites will say different things. There is inconsistency. One site may say this date is good for wedding, but another may not say so. Which is one of the reasons why a Feng Shui master with knowledge in authentic date selection techniques do not use the Tong Shu for selecting dates. Not just wedding dates. Even the start of reno, moving in dates as well as all other types of dates.

Even if you do rely on the Tong Shu alone, there are other elements inside the Tong Shu that you need to consider, and not just simply when the Tong Shu says "Good for wedding", and you can use that day, even if it is for general auspicious day. If you have a chance to flip open a Tong Shu, it is a whole page of chinese characters and most layman will only look at a specific section that says "Good for wedding" and assume that day is good for marriage purpose. This is not true. The other chinese characters are there for a reason and they will tell further if this day is really appropriate for wedding etc etc.

In your case, the 21st Sep is the actual wedding day. That is the day you have your ROM and become legally and officially husband and wife. The tea ceremony is just a customary practice that we Chinese practice. The confusion arises because in the old days, there is no such thing as ROM. Everything is on ONE day, which led people to believe that the AD is the most important. If your ROM and AD is on the same day, then yes, this is your actual wedding day since your ROM will be on the same day. But if the ROM and AD is on different days, then the ROM is the actual wedding day.

I hope this clears up your doubts [IMG]

    Hi Lynn,

You can get married in year 2009 (but you do need to choose an auspicious date and time), but whether if it is a good year to get married will have to see both your Bazi.

As for the auspicious months, it has to be determined using both your Bazi as well.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hi Eve,

16 Jan 2009 is a "general" auspicious date. 16 Jan 2010 is not a "general" auspicious date for wedding purpose. Your animal sign alone is not sufficient to determine if this is really a good day. The whole Bazi (birthday and time of birth), as well as your parents animal signs, have to be taken into account.

    Hope this helps [IMG]

    Hi Rave & Annisan,

Whether if it is a good year for marriage or not depends on your Bazi (birthday and time of birth). It is not dependent on what animal sign that year belongs to. This is an "urban legend" that needs to be clarified.

If tiger is not a good year for marriage due to whatever reason that tiger is strong, big, fierce etc, does it mean that everybody who gets married in tiger year will divorce or have an unhappy marriage? This is not true. There are millions of people that were married in tiger year but are happily married.

On the other hand, if we use this theory, then perhaps Rabbit Year will be a good year for marriage since Rabbit is gentle, amicable etc. However, there are also many people who got married in the Rabbit year that are unhappy with their marriage or had divorce.

It is not easy to explain to them as all the while, they might have this wrong perception in mind. You really have to ask someone who have in depth knowledge about these things and explain to them face to face.
