Hi Kaistarz,

Yah the cards look great!! =) Like you I have both black and red cards. Red for relatives and the rest will be receiving the black ones!

Will the insert slip out when the guests open up the card?

By the way, we didn't have food tasting because it was given free to us (@ atrium suites) Hee... Any recommendations on what kind of dishes we definitely have to choose?

Hi Jasmine,

the inserts will not slip out so easily, but however depends on how the guests' handle the cards. so far most of the cards, i pass to my guest directly and it's alright.

for the food, i must say my choosen dishes had no complains at all. favs are cod fish, crab &amp; buns, wasabi prawn etc... thumbs up.

Hi winny,

i understand ur point. i had that issue too initially.

thou of ribbon, but nowadays ribbons are quite old-fashioned. so i decided to fold n slip in directly.

pasting is time-consuming (better spend on something else), might paste wrongly &amp; the guest prob won't care much either.. most impt thing is whether they turn up and with big angbao right ya.

just my opinons.

cheers.

<font color="aa00aa">Hi! Thank you for your advise... most probably I would not have ribbons.

My htb appointed a printing company for printing the inserts but it's so expensive. I only have 130 pcs and the total cost around $190.</font>

Hi all,

=) i've just done my invitation cards last weekend. Pasted the inserts using double sided tape..i didn't paste all the 3 folds, only the middle panel.

winny,
that's quite expensive! Hmm.. what's the type of printing that you all used?

winny

<font color="aa00aa">Hi Jasmine, after calling the printing company, then i know they make 2 stamps for me (1 for the wordings and 1 for a couple cartoon).

According to them, since the paper is provided bu us, it'll be good to do the stamp instead of normal print as their printer might spoil the paper.

Which also means, i'll have the stamp as a memory. But still.....it's very expensive.

Winny,

intially we wanted to do the printing of inserts @ JB but they can't run the printing machine with paper size larger than a4 size...

so eventually we went back to lil-art to help us do the printing...

gg tan,

Mark? Sandy?

sometimes, we may attach the emotions to the words that we see on the screen. Perhaps she did not paraphase her sentence in a nicer manner according to the way we thought they would.

it is written in the contract that there are no red carpet liao

I did not really pay attention to this when I attended weddings previously, but I thought it is norm to have red carpet? No? Otherwise wouldnt it look funny and plain?

i went to their open house..
oriental service is excellent. their prices are even higher than shangrila at $1188++ per table. however they are not even comparable to shang. shangrila has a very nice wedding concept lounge and their wedding cards, gifts, table cloths, chair ribbons are displayed nicely which the wedding consultant will bring you too. shangrila has class. their table cloth all heavy silk and they have a huge inventory of colors
Oriental seriously needs to do something about their theme concepts. it is very amateur and in some way or another, and does not exude class. they pride themselves in themes but i think they should seriously consider hiring a wedding planner to conceptualise their plans for them instead of doing inhouse. otherwise they should built up their collection of table cloth, runners, utentsils etc for people to choose if they wish to deviate from the theme since their themes are not that great. the stage is also flimsy and backdrop is pathetic. the gift boxes color (black) do not match with any other themes except those with black tablecloth. the cutlery sets look cheap (black chopsticks for all!) and do not go wtih the theme unlike shang which uses gold plated cutleries. if they want to price themselves like shang, they should start looking into these details to create the perfect ambience and setting.
i have a grouse for every of their theme, not sure if u all feel the same
sweetheart ->too in your face
garden -> hideous green chair covers that look like SMRT uniform. even white chair covers will do better. and cheap ikea vases to put the sunflowers.
dream -> yam color roses and blue jelly?
love -> gold embroidered flowers organza which do not even match with the wall color. and the flower stands are too tall for the short ballroom!
happiness-> too oriental.

if you realise their ballroom looks best with black table cloth themes which fits their ballroom color. (which is hard to use for wedding)
while much effort and thought has been put into the themes, i think that oriental has to invest more to command a 5.5 star pricing.

also, oriental has to do a better job at branding their hotel. i did some informal suveys amongst friends and they will give the same angbao money to marina mandarin, meritus mandarin and mandarin oriental. they will give more to shangrila and conrade and fourseasons.although conrade and four seasons is so much cheaper. oriental has to work harder for its price!

forgot to mention oriental VIP chairs and VIP table stands cannot make it..
again they do not take into consideration how the colors blend in to the different theme. they use the same for all themes.
the chairs are some beige PVC chair with brown trimmings instead of some lush velvety grand chairs.

reinn,
you still need the black cards?

We just had our wedding dinner on the 14th Nov. Our guests have nothing but praises for their services and great food! For us, it's all worth paying that much for holding wedding celebration at MO. =)

Hi all,

Anyone mixed the Love and Happiness theme? Any pics to share?

Also, can anyone send me pics of the guest tables for the Love theme? Thanks!

hi hi,
We've just signed with MO for our 2010 wedding, we think their service is impeccable. They really made a deep impression on us, from the doorman to the staff at the lobby to the banquet team! We've been to many wedding shows/fairs at hotels as well as visited and lived in many hotels in the course of our work/business, we are really impressed with the service quality of MO Singapore.

The food looks pretty good and had many positive feedbacks from frens &amp; relatives who had attended or hosted weddings there. They have also been accommodating in their perks to suit our needs.

1st class! :) Keep up the good work!

hello everyone,
just thought i'd add to the praises for Mandarin Oriental.
Attended a friend's wedding there this yr, and all i can say is, it's the most memorable wedding i've attended. the food was just great! best i've ever had. the menu in itself is so interesting and the quality of the food was impeccable. from the start of the dinner to the end of the dinner, everyone talked about nothing else but how GOOD the food was. even weeks and months after the dinner, everyone still can remember all the dishes and still commenting on how good the food is! all my frens told me to have my wedding dinner there too, so that they can experience everything once again!

in fact, my fiance and i really loved the place and set our hearts on it to have our wedding dinner there. unfortunately we were so disappointed to learn that the capacity is too small for us, unless we drastically reduce our guest list or split our guests to occupy ballroom + function room. at the end of the day, we decided against it becos of this sole reason.

however, i feel that i must still leave my word of praise for the excellent service provided by Sandy, the coordinator whom i met up with. I found her v prompt in her replies and very professional. during our meet up, she paid attention and noted down all my queries and by the time i reached home, she had already emailed me with ALL the answers to my queries. i found that kind of service excellent. she really impressed us so much that we really wanted to sign up the package on the spot... just that we couldn;t becos of the small capacity.

till now we still haven;t found a hotel that lives up to the same standards as MO. still wishing that we can somehow cut down our guest list to fit into the ballroom!

hi giraffe,

maybe you can split into 2 events? a lunch (in the restaurant by the pool) and a dinner at the ballroom? Just a suggestion...

we actually attended many shows/fairs &amp; visited many hotels &amp; clubs, I think none have matched up to MO's service! Well done to Mark &amp; team! :)

somehow i still feel that oriental cannot compare to shangrila in terms of class and shang is cheaper per table
does anybody feel the same as me?

Btw, yr informal survey of yr frens on angbaos... guess these frens aren't too close with u. Cos among my survey of frens and my own experience of helping frens to count angbaos, the amount in the angbaos vary with hotels only if they are yr acquaintances or not so close frens.. all our good frens (which usually are the ones who get invited) regardless of hotels/clubs, lunch or dinner, we still give the same amount (ranging from $200-$500 per pax) depending on how close the frenship and how much can the guests afford. Our "market price" has never been based on which hotel it is.

Anyway, your mention of how much angbaos are quite irrelevant here; cos the point of inviting your frens to attend your wedding is not to see how much you can receive but for them to join you in the happiness of celebrating the wedding (you should prepare to foot the whole banquet bill for whichever hotel you chose in the first place).

the 1448 menu is way better than MO so no comparison. eg it gives suckling pig..MO suckling pig cost 180 more per table which is the same as shang

i am still a fan of shang i guess coz i enjoy patronising the restaurants there and find it has class . i am not a staff though although i think ur a staff of MO lol

the angbao point is not abt the wedding make or loss..in fact i am quite prepared to foot the bill. just using it as a benchmark to show that the branding of MO is still weak although it is trying hard to be in the premium leauge. kudos to trying. still need to try harder though. but not the banquet department, prob the PR /mass com dept.
for eg, in fact four seasons..pple still see it as a high class banquet place although it is only 1088 per table. its all abt perception. if u pay so much to invite pple to your wedding u also want them to think it is high class and not confuse it with the same league as pan pac or marina mandarin which many people do

Hi gg tan,
i am not a fan or MO or Shang..but generally, i think MO charges quite an expensive menu but the branding is not as strong as compared to Shang which has a long history. Can i email u personally to ask u some questions? my email is [email protected]. thanks!

gg, its kinda funny that yr maths seemed to fail u...if MO $1188+$180 = its only $1368. BUT that means you'll get BOTH Lobster &amp; Suckling Pig! In Shang, u only get Suckling Pig OR Lobster. :)

Nope, not a staff of Shang, but a mgt staff from a fellow F&amp;B/Hospitality business; just can't seem to understand that you are the only one "beating" up MO, makes one wonder u are jus a green-eyed competitor.

My mgt style has always been to help the beaten and fight for the truth. If you feel that MO is not of the same class as Shang in yr perception, then buzz off...no one ask u whether MO is the same as Shang. Everyone here is just sharing about their preparation for their wedding in MO, encouraging, explaining and sharing.

We all thank you for your view. Time for you to move back to your "pet" Shang. :)
