Are lab-grown diamonds a good option for engagement rings… or should I stick with natural diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds can be a good option for engagement rings, depending on your priorities and preferences. One advantage of lab-grown diamonds is that they are typically less expensive than natural diamonds, while still offering the same visual appeal and durability. They are also often considered to be more environmentally friendly, as they do not involve mining or other destructive practices.

Some people may prefer natural diamonds due to their rarity and perceived value, or because of cultural or personal traditions.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to choose a lab-grown or natural diamond for an engagement ring is a personal one that should be based on your individual values and priorities. You may find this useful: https://eclarity.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/CNA-2.pdf

Hello J.Kong, it really depends what the main consideration behind the engagement ring is. Specifically, does your fiance want a specific gemstone (may not be diamond, can be any other gemstone such as her birthday stone) or does she specifically want a diamond? Since she'll be the person wearing this engagement ring for a very long time, would be best to ask her what she likes and design the ring along with her.

If your fiance wants a diamond, then you can choose between lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds. Honestly, the lab-grown diamonds are chemically exactly the same as natural diamonds with a far lower price. I personally cannot tell the difference between the two (full disclosure, I have a lab grown diamond engagement ring) when I was looking between natural and lab-grown diamonds. Again, it boils down to what your fiance is alright with. Is she alright with a lab-grown diamond if that means she can get a bigger carat size for your budget? Or does she 100% only want a natural diamond for whatever reason?

One thing to note is that a lab-grown diamond does not hold its value at all. It's a sunk cost, I don't think you can sell it for anything other than the gold scrap value. I believe a natural diamond can be pawned for some money to pawnshops but not a lab-grown diamond. So if resale value is important to you, then lab-grown diamond may not be suitable.

Just fyi, I got a lab grown diamond solitaire engagement ring from Michael Trio for a significantly lower price than a similarly sized/quality natural diamond ring. I'm very happy with my ring since it's just as sparkly as a natural diamond ring at a budget my fiance is comfortable with spending. Hope this helps, feel free to PM me if you have any questions about my experience with a lab-grown diamond ring vs natural diamond.

My fiancé proposed with a 1.7 carat labgrown diamond, its D VVS1 perfect cut, that is within a premium collection. He got it from eClarity’s labgrown brand called ba.sg. I love the design and craftsmanship!

I love labgrown diamonds, it is environmentally friendly, more affordable so I could get the design and shape that I like…

Personally I prefer natural diamonds. I think it ultimately all comes down to the stone you or your partner can afford.
Lab diamonds have the almost the same specs as natural diamonds except at a chemical level natural diamonds have trace amounts of nitrogen. It’s a misconception that lab diamonds are environmentally friendly. Although less damaging than natural diamonds, Lab ones require an enormous amount of energy to produce (non renewable energy) hence they are too damaging to the environment. However lab diamonds are VERY significantly cheaper than natural diamonds of the same specs although they do not hold their monetary value like a natural diamond does on the gem market.

I personally prefer an ethically sourced natural diamond if my partner can afford it But if that's out of the budget, I'd be just as happy with a lab grown diamond too.

My gf wants labgrown instead of natural diamond, any comments or suggestions?
I have both and I would trust a more reputable brand for either lab grown or natural. Have you visited Lee Hwa? They also have lab grown diamond rings although they are famous for natural diamonds like their super ideal cut under Destinee.

It really depends on the person receiving the ring and your budget haha

I guess it really depends on individual. You should talk with your fiancé or fiancée first before committing. Can take go take a look at what jewellery brands can offer first.

My wedding bands and proposal ring are from Lee Hwa and I got it one of their bridal consultation event at a good deal. Can consider going to their next event.
