hi anise

Think the taxi fare from ao nang to aiport (and vice versa) is usually fixed. If i remember correctly, it's ard 500 baht per way.

Yup, Ao Nang beach itself isn't nice. But no need to fret. You'll have many opportunities to tan at the islands (Koh Poda is nice and nearest to Ao Nang), Railay beach, or at the hotel itself. La Playa has a great pool. Enjoy yourself.

The taxi fare from krabi airport to ao nang will cost you 600thb, but 500bht from ao nang to airport probably due to the stiff competition.

Krabi is much a sleepy town as compare to phuket. i was there for a couple of days but find it pretty boring as it was nothing near to Phuket during my last trip there in 2004 prior to the disaster.

We rented a Jeep for around $70 sgd and took a map. hit the roads and went to the crystal pond ( 3hrs drive @ 80-100km/hr).. me & my wife absoulutely lurve it .. and we spend about 2-3 hrs lazing in the clearing pools of water which we believe are good for out skin .. keke

you will need a bit of guts to drive there .. but should be quite easy and just do some asking along the way. we also stop by along the small towns in between the trip and got to savour their local delicacies and thai durians..

we returned the jeep at the airport the very next day & thus save the 500 bht as well on the taxi fare. i would suggest you all to consider renting a car and driving around that area of krabi/ trang/ phuket but just do some careful planning before hand.

la playa is pretty good considering the price. miss those banana pancakes ..

cheers

Hi Cheepoozz

This is my first time posting here. I am also going to Krabi next week. May I ask a few question since you are staying in La Playa like me.

1. You are staying in La Playa right? Saw at La Playa website, its nearby has a construction going on, is it very noisy?
2. Does it rained a lot over there since it is rainy season now?
3. You mentioned that you rent a car for SGD70 is it for 1Day or throughout your stay? Where do you rent it? From airport? From which company?

Sorry for so much questions. Thanks for answering.

Juz came back from Krabi. La Playa so-so only. Would recommend Ao Lang Villa or Peace Laguna which i think is much better than La Playa.

Weather not too bad. One day of rainy day which they cancel water activities becos the sea is choppy. The rest of the days are sunny and hot with short showers.

Hello,

Just came back from Krabi. Since I get a lot of information on this site, I will feedback for the benefits of the rest.

As what Artoo has mentioned, Krabi La Playa is so so only. Their room is getting 'old'. We book the deluxe room. (Not the pool side though) The bed is a king size. The room is reasonably big with a balcony.

No carpet in room, just normal tiles, so it could be cold at night so you would need to wear the slipper but but but I guess nobody will dare stepping onto the slipper as it is simply too worn out, you can just imagine how many foot have stepped onto it by the flatness of the base!

No daily newspaper provided. You have to pay for newspaper if you want. The laundry bag is NOT FREE. Do not try to pack your diry clothes home with it or you will be charged a 200bht for it! Anyway I don't think you will use it since it is so old and dirty! Yucks!

All the towels have a mouldy stench. The smell remains the same despite they change it everyday.

During my stay, the whole hotel experience twice power breakdown. Once at night and once in the morning. Though it last for awhile only but it is enough to 'shock' you!

The hotel neighbours are undergoing SERIOUS renovation now. It is mentioned in their website. For those that are sensitive to noise. It is UNBEARABLE. You have no way to run away the noise in any place in the hotel since the hotel is sandwich between 2 construction sites! None of the room are not affected by the noise produce by the construction sites. If you plan to have a retreat and stay in the hotel. Stay in other hotels. Actually I wrote an Email to ask the hotel before booking and they told me that the construction is minimal. Don't be deceive by that, the digging drilling sound is simply unbearable especially for a holiday! If you gonna stay out of the hotel everyday then you can stay here.

The breakfast is miserable. BF starts frm 7am-10am. We try going at 8.30am, 9am and also 8am. The earlier you go, you see a little more food. Go later u only get to eat leftover food. They do not replenish food though I see more people coming in.

The staff have difficulties understand english. The first day we were there the kettle coil is rusty, so we ask the receptionist to change the kettle, later we see the room service staff come with 2 bottles of mineral water! I ask to make an omelette without mushroom and I have an omelette with nothing else but mushroom! Haha!

I would recommend those interested to go Krabi to stay in Aonang Villa as it is near to the town. It is just a road away infront of the beach as compare to Krabi La Playa which you have to walk out about 15mins to the sea.

Peace Laguna looks nice, we went in the take a look. It is very quiet and nice.

hi... just some info to share with u guys/gals..

Just back from my trip not long. Stayed at la playa as well.. I find the room ok.. Mine is those with direct acess to the pool. so we juz jump into the pool as n when we like which i find it cool. Initially when hubby n i reached, was surprise to find our booking cancelled.. guess it's coz i cancelled the bangkok hotels and in the end directroom thot i wanna cancel for all. But luckily, there was still room available.. and we could actually check in straight.. they din give us a king/queen size bed but juz 2 single combine.. which i find it still quite ok. No gaps =)
one thing which really turn mi off was their breakfast.. gosh!! i simply din eat much there.. onli their brew coffee was nice.. As for their chambermaids, i can say they are veri honest. Hubby left his phone on the bed and to our surprise they placed it on the table when we were back. was tinking, dat's it.. there go the phone.. this is somethin which i wanna praise.

we rent a bike instead of a car. for bike whole day only 150 bahts which is very cheap.. went to explore places like tigercave, hot steam as well as crystal pool.. quite adventuous and fun.. their pancakes are must to try.. i missed it soooo much already.. Seafood wise, do try to bargain at the ao-nang seafood rest ard.. had mine there twice.. both were great!!!

hi,

tintin2, u came back on wed by tiger airways?

Trip to phi phi island is still nice, though rebuilding is still going on at Phi Phi Don. Crystal clear waters, feeding the fish while snorkelling, fine beautiful sandy beach etc.

We had dinner by the sea at the stretch of seafood restaurant near bluemarine. Bluemarine is much more ex while the rest are cheaper. Seafood is fresh, cheap and good.

No. I didn't come back on Wed by Tiger Airways. I come back on Monday.

I also have dinner near the stretch of seafood restaurant. We tried 2 seafood restaurants. They are located at the 2nd and 3rd in the row. Always sit at the last row nearest to the sea. So nice and cooling. Only bad thing is my food turn cold faster!

1st day tried the 3rd seafood restaurant (Yaya)in the row, eat Fried Fish with garlic, Chef Salad, Pineapple Rice, Tom Yam Gung and 2 orange juice. Total we pay 540bht. The pineapple rice is very nice here. The Tom Yum Gung also yummy!

2nd day tried the 2nd seafood restaurant, eat Fried Fish (Sweet & Spicy), Pineapple Rice, Phad Thai, Fried Kangkong, Omelette wrap with chicken cook in sweet & sour sauce and young coconut drink. Total we pay 550bht. The Phad Thai & Fried Fish is nice. Fish is very fresh as compare to the 1st day!

If you want to sit at the side near the sea, go a little early before the sky turn dark. Else you do not get to see what you eat. Haha. Since it is so windy that it is no point to light up the candle provided.

Oh yah! I didn't rent any vehicle over there. I go by the bus. 20bht/pax/trip around Ao Nang area. The bus is not the type of bus that you see in Singapore, it is just a pickup with covered seat (no aircon). They are painted in white and the location that they travel are marked on the pickup.

If you want to go to Krabi Town then it is 40bht/pax/trip. For night, it is more expensive. We pay 50bht/pax/trip when coming back from Krabi Town at around 9pm.

Some roadside food not to miss:

1. Pancake (Roti Plata with choice of banana/pineapple/cashew nut/coconut/egg, end product top with chocolate and mayonaise)- 20 baht
2. Ice cream (It is coconut & yam ice cream serve in a cup, with additional of crunchy rice, peanut, atap chee, glutinous rice and top with chocolate and sesame seed) - 20baht
3. Fried Chicken (Anytime better than KFC!)
4. BBQ Chicken (Taste like Ayam Percik in Msia)
