hi zai,

most of the agencies in chaweng "should" be able to arrange a customized tour for you, but please compare the prices first because there are many choices available. just ask for an english speaking guide to be included.

alternatively, you can hire a van (with driver) from your hotel or get a taxi driver to bring you to those places. the driver can be your guide but they may not speak english well.

koh samui is very tourist oriented so all these can be arranged. if you dont mind paying for a quality guide, then go with the tour agencies because hotel van can be expensive and good taxi drivers are rare

Hey guys,

Me and bf have just been to Koh Samui about 2 weeks ago and I strongly recommend Chaweng Regent Resort cos I think their service and attention to details is really really good.... my bf and me are really satisfied with their ambience and service. We stayed in the deluxe room (promotion) and if one of you gals/guys are going for "honeymoon" or "honeymoon" in a new r/s, this is the resort to go for. Aside from from daily breakfast which I find it's pretty normal (I mostly took bread and omelette for breakfast), the resort is worth 5 stars rating for recommendation. Actually ordering from their cafe menu is even nicer than outside food (at Changweng) which is more costly as the taste has been modified to suit the caucasians.

We rented a jeep at the hotel (800bahts) and travelled around Koh Samui, with me (who says a woman is bad in road directions) guiding my bf during the whole one day trip. But one point to caution, Koh Samui road signs is not "user friendly"... sometimes there are road signs pointing at different places but going to the same location or there're hidden from eye view (not easy to spot) or there might not be any road signs at all so the person who's directing the driver must always follow closely with map during the trip so as not to get lost easily.

We booked our tour with Sunnyholiday at Bugis Junction. Their service is not bad too.

from CNA website today:

Seven dead in Thailand floods, resort island Koh Samui hard hit

BANGKOK, Thailand : At least seven people have died in flooding in Thailand, while hotels and restaurants on the resort island of Koh Samui remain shuttered, causing millions of dollars in losses, officials said on Sunday.

An estimated 50,000 people have been affected by torrential rains that lashed nine southern Thai provinces that have so far caused 40 million baht (US$975,000) in damage, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said.

But department officials said total losses could be much higher after the damage on Koh Samui is tallied.

Flights to and from the inundated island had resumed and roads had reopened, but an unknown number of tourists remain stuck in their hotels, officials said.

Hundreds of shops and restaurants along Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui's social hub, are still closed after several days of heavy rains brought torrents of water and mudslides, tourism officials said.

Losses to the island are estimated at around one billion baht (about US$24 million), a tourism industry official was quoted as saying by a local newspaper on Sunday.

At least 500 residents have been evacuated from coastal areas due to the flooding, an official at Koh Samui's Amphoe district told AFP, adding that the rain had now stopped.

"Assistance for affected villagers and tourists could be done much better after the rain has stopped and transportation has resumed conveniently around the island," he said. - AFP/de

We stayed at the Chaweng Regent Beach Resort for 10 nights recently. The hotel was of a very high standard with beatiful grounds and well maintained facilities such as swimming pools. We saw several nearby hotels that looked in urgent need of refurbishment along Chaweng Beach, so choose carefully and dont trust old website images.
We had a deluxe room alongside the Garden Pool, which was very nice, although not spectacular. Large beds and a balcony with furniture to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. Only minor dislike with the room was the shower, which was of the 'over the bath' type and did not reach high enough to get underneath. Rooms were very clean and serviced daily, even down to a nightly spray to deter insects. Staff were very friendly and happy to help, would rate the overall service as excellent.
The hotel was under part refurbishment, which we were informed of before the trip, and we hardly noticed anything was happening, We were even given 4,000 BHT to spend in the hotel as compensation, which was great. Food and drink is not cheap compared with othr local establishments but fair enough for the level of quality and service.
Location for us was excellent. We wanted to enjoy bars and restaurants at night without being in the middle of the busy part of town. This was perfcect, 5 minutes walk down the beach were several bars, massage places and nice places to eat. The town center was also on a few minutes stroll where there were dozens of market stalls, lively bars and a great variety of food.
No hesitation in recommending this hotelif you are planning to stay on Chaweng Beach, certainly not the cheapest but worth it for the quality and location.

Next month I am planning to go to trip with my wife on our anniversary. Anybody tell me where we have to go? My wife said she wants to go Samui villa but this is a new place for us I don’t have any idea about this place. So, please help me and tell us from where we can book rooms with cheap rates?
