J.W. Marriott at South Beach

Hi,

Is it a norm for the couples to pay 100% of the cost of banquet prior to the wedding itself?

J.W. Marriott insisted in us paying 100% of the payment prior to the wedding. When we tried to negotiate, they reduced the amount to 90% and said we have to submit a pre-authorisation form for a credit card for the other 10%.

Isn't it a bit too kiasu on the hotel's part?

Furthermore, my fiance and I may not have the cash to pay now, without the angpows from our friends.

For everyone's advice, please.

Hi babe,

This is the first time I heard paying 100% for the wedding banquet. Normally what the hotel will spilt into 2-3 payments as for mine is 3 payments.

1st payment I made was 40% of the total cost
2nd payment is during food tasting also 40%
3rd payment is on the AD itself.

And they do not ask me to sign a pre-authorisation form.

Hopefully this helps but can check with the other BTB who signed up with J.W. Marriott.

Most of the hotels that I had visited, they only requested for 50 to 60% prior to AD. But maybe higher end hotels work differently. If really cannot fork out prior to it, its better to choose other place so that it wont put constraints to your budget.

Westin is in staggered but full payment prior to AD. Upon confirmation SGD 6,000 followed by 50% (180 days before), 30% (90 days before) and balance (30 days before). We tried to negotiate as we were concern about the service after we make full payment but its a deal breaker for them so we gave in in the end. But have to say.... So far their service have been really good.

Expect hefty payments for luxury hotels such as JW Marriott. Most hotels only require you to pay AFTER the AD but honestly i think if you cant afford it, you shouldnt get married there. Dont rely completely on the angbaos.
