I need help from brides in Singapore - how does your wedding look like?

Dear Singaporean Brides,

I am a student of business and cultures in Germany. I am researching wedding traditions in Singapore and could really use all of your help. I am looking for answers to questions like:

Are you using wedding bands/rings? Of what kind of material? With diamonds?

Are you using engagement rings? If yes, also with a single diamond?

Do you get your rings engraved (name, date of wedding etc. )

Do different material like Gold, Whitegold, Platinum have a special emotional meaning for you?

Where do you buy your wedding bands? Whats the price range?

Do you use wedding gowns like in Europe and the US (white dresses) or do you wear other traditional gowns in Singapore?

Do most couples get married in a traditional Singaporean way or like in America/Europe (white wedding gown, suit for the groom, engagement ring, wedding band) ?

Are you using wedding bands/rings? Of what kind of material? With diamonds?

~ Depends on what you choose. Most of the time would be 18k white gold or platinum. Now rose gold seem to be the hit here. Some couples would still use 916 aka 22k gold.

Are you using engagement rings? If yes, also with a single diamond?

~ Depends on whether does the bf propose. If yes, of course the bride would have an engagement aka proposal ring. Normally is a solitaire. But there are also 3-stones, 5-stone, in halo design as well.

Do you get your rings engraved (name, date of wedding etc. )

~ Yes for the wedding bands

Do different material like Gold, Whitegold, Platinum have a special emotional meaning for you?

Where do you buy your wedding bands? Whats the price range?

~ Depends on what you buy. Normal couple usually purchase in SG Jeweler with many branches spread all over SG. Namely: LeeHwa, Goldheart, Sookee, SK, Citigem, Taka

Some more lavish couples may go for Tiffany, Cartier or Bvlgari as well.

Do you use wedding gowns like in Europe and the US (white dresses) or do you wear other traditional gowns in Singapore?

Yes, normally we does have a white gown as well as a Chinese kua for tea ceremony.

For chinese alone, there are many different dialect custom (Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew being the main) to follow. You may wanna focus on Chinese wedding alone (more than enough to keep you busy)? As Malays or Indians are doing their own style as well.

Please go through the link above and maybe by then you will know what to ask already. Because as for your question now is too generic.

I can't answer many parts of it as many depends solely on individual couple's choices like their gowns, their choice of wedding bands etc.

You may wanna note that most couple does have a Pre-wedding Bridal shoot to show to guest during the wedding dinner.

- Wedding band. Mine is with a small diamond set into the band cos my husband insisted since I didn't want an engagement ring. Ours are platinum, but that's just a personal choice.

- Nope. Didn't want one.

Do you get your rings engraved (name, date of wedding etc. )
- Yes. With our names and date of wedding. His wedding band has my name and vice versa.

- Not really. Just personal preference on what you want it to look like.

Where do you buy your wedding bands? Whats the price range?
- Goldheart, goldsmith shop in Singapore. Ours was about S$1.2K each.

Do you use wedding gowns like in Europe and the US (white dresses) or do you wear other traditional gowns in Singapore?
- Similar to those gowns in Europe and US.

Do most couples get married in a traditional Singaporean way or like in America/Europe (white wedding gown, suit for the groom, engagement ring, wedding band) ?
- Married in church with the white wedding gown, suit for the groom, church choir etc. However, there's still the Chinese 'customary' portion where it's traditional with all the usual Chinese customs, e.g. husband to be fetching the bride early in the morning, serving tea to elders etc.

- White gold wedding bands with diamonds for me but without diamonds for my hubby (he thinks it's kinda gay to wear a ring with diamonds haa)

- We call it proposal ring. Yes. It's a solitarie and usually cost more than the wedding bands.

Do you get your rings engraved (name, date of wedding etc. )
- no time to do it so didn't do it. would like to in future though

- No emotional meaning. Just about budget, practicality and fashion for me. We chose white gold.

Where do you buy your wedding bands? Whats the price range?
- From Lee Hwa. Mine is more expensive than my hubby's due to the diamonds. The price range is about 2k for mine and 1k for his.

Do you use wedding gowns like in Europe and the US (white dresses) or do you wear other traditional gowns in Singapore?
We wear both white gowns and traditional red-coloured gown (kua) on the actual day.

Do most couples get married in a traditional Singaporean way or like in America/Europe (white wedding gown, suit for the groom, engagement ring, wedding band) ?
-It's a 'fusion' I would say. We wear both traditional and modern gowns but we still have traditional customs like the tea ceremony etc. It depends on one's religion and chinese dialect.

- Yes. is a single diamond solitaire.

-Yes. name initials, wedding date and a verse.

- No. material was not a factor we consider when getting wedding rings.

Where do you buy your wedding bands? Whats the price range?

- customize at Fairy's Inc. mine was a close of 3K but his, a plain champagne color plated white gold ring was less than 1K.

- I wore a white wedding gown only.

- Singaporean Chinese couples usually have a combination of westernised wedding eg. white gown, suit etc and traditional customary ceremony (according to their dialect group). However, for other races, eg. Malays and Indians usually just have their traditional wedding ceremony.
