Hotel venue cancellation, how to seek compensation?

Deposit already paid and wedding date booked months ago. Just received a call from the Hotel to inform of cancellation due to a business decision from mgmt for another function. Went to read the contract in detail and realise it didn't stated anything about hotel's responsibility in the event they cancel on us. As if planning a wedding isn't stressful enough, the audacity the hotel has, to just cancel on a couple's wedding booking. They just offered me alternate dates, seriously. Pre-wedding planning were revolving around wedding date. Plus, invitation already sent out.

This is unheard of, i only know of couples cancelling. The hotel might as well close down their wedding banquet department, they obviously don't understand their responsibility to the couple who entrusted their wedding to them. Where can i go seek advise on this matter and what kind of compensation is the norm?

Unable to reveal the hotel as we have a NDA clause in the contract that restricts us from revealing contract details. Revealing the vendor at this juncture may cause us to breach the contract and lose any form of compensation that we are currently seeking. Super one-sided contract. In our search for a replacement venue, i specifically asked for a compensation clause in the event that hotels breach their contract. None of the hotels agreed to this. shady and one-sided af

It's always the couple's first time and everyone expects it to be a happy occasion. Better be aware of those hidden loopholes that vendors may use to potentially skirt around. According to my friends in the industry, hotels see weddings as one-time business. Corporate events are recurring business with potential for future bookings, plus they can sell rooms/ other function rooms/ restaurant/ buffet together with the business function. They will try their best to honor the wedding booking but if a sizable corporate booking comes, they will just move you. I spoke to someone else from SGbrides too who faced a similar scenario from another hotel.
