Dear all brides-to-be,
I've been a silent but avid reader of this forum and myself am going to get married soon on 22 Sep. Mine is just a simple ROM solemnisation and luncheon due to my cancer. To summarise everything, I decided to be lazy and just enlist the MUA that my good friend had for her wedding 2-3 years ago. She went through a bridal boutique and her MUA was okay.
When I contacted her, she sounded ok but could speak no good English which wasn't a problem since my Mandarin is pretty good too. She's a typical Singaporean auntie who exhibits traits of a very experienced salesperson and her trademark is her incessant speech/sales pitch.
I was still fine though, although I should have heeded the warning bells in my head when she went on and on about good she was and that she's often employed for commercials makeup etc.
Her makeup skills aside (which to be honest, is so-so and more dramatic rather than natural which I prefer but that's not the issue here), her service was horrible.
To be more precise, her service was absent. Prior to receiving payment from me, she was nice (definition of nice may vary for you since I'm pretty easy-going) but constantly emphasized that she's charging me slightly lesser because I'm a recommendation at $220 and $100 for trial. But she is a busy person (and so am I and all the brides I believe) and forgot the rates she gave me and charged me the usual price of $250.
Fine, it's just a matter of $30.
After the trial makeup, I was okay with it. I left the makeup and hair up to her and after showing the photos to my friends, all exclaimed that I look like an auntie, which is rather a feat considering how I have been told many times that I look younger than 31.
So I decided to call her and tell her that I would like to change my makeup and hair styles and would like to meet up with her one more time. Throughout our exchanges (phone, SMS and one face-to-face talk), I've always been rather yielding and polite to her. On top of that, she actually lives very near me (Toa Payoh); like a 15 min walking distance.
She was obviously very pissed and offended. I don't want to go into the details but basically, she told me that '... my friends won't know anything... and as long as you are happy that's ok...' and '... I am very busy....'.
Fine. I was irritated but I maintained my composure and sent her two screenshots via MMS (she doesn't even know what is MMS and kept saying MSN and got me all confused) the style I would like.
Please bear in mind that all these happened like, a month prior to my actual wedding and guess what? No reply or call from her.
My best friend who is mild-tempered knew all of these, couldn't take it anymore and advised me to change to another MUA. This MUA always emphasised and repeated that she don't earn much from me etc and my fiance (who is currently in Canada) told me that if I am so unhappy with her, I should just forget about the $100 deposit and change the MUA.
And so I did. I asked for a refund but obviously, she didn't wanted to despite two messages over a period of 2-3 weeks IIRC. The new MUA artist that I'm going to have is the infamous Miki and while I haven't had a meeting with her yet, I hope she'll be better.
I just want to inform all the brides-to-be of this horrible MUA. She doesn't exactly charge very cheap and you would be better off finding another.

Ivy's attitude is horrible; totally not customer-service oriented and doesn't respond to messages well at all.
