Hi everyone, I am in a pretty bad situation and am asking for help from the community. I booked my wedding banquet for May 2024 sometime in Oct 2023. We paid our deposit and even made some monthly payments for our banquet. However, our hotel called me today to ask if we can change our dates. Reason being they have some potential huge conference that is booking all their function rooms. My understanding is the event is not even confirmed yet, and yet, they are asking their clients who have paid deposit to secure the wedding dates to change our dates
However, we have already confirmed and paid deposits or in full for our photographer, make-up artist, wedding gown rental, flights and hotel booking for overseas friends and relatives for that weekend, and if I have to change our wedding dates, we have to redo everything with less than 6 months to our actual wedding day. We chose that hotel only because they promised us that they can secure the dates for us, as it was the date that my in-law wants (auspicious date), and I want to fulfil her blessings to us.
Honestly, we feel that the hotel is very unprofessional, but the hotel say that right now, they will confirm with the event organiser if they can change their dates, and I am left with the anguish of waiting for an answer on something that I paid a deposit to secure.
I am currently not comfortable saying which hotel it is, as we are still in negotiations with them (this is not a flaming post, yet) My post here is to ask if there is anyone else in this community that got the same request as me (I monitored the Reddit community for the whole day, but saw nothing), and if so, we can get together to pressure this hotel to stop this nonsense.
Another super long short, but if your company is looking at having a conference in the middle of May 2024 in Singapore, you may be indirectly causing me this distress, and I am happy to connect to see if you guys can make alternative arrangements. I don’t blame you guys, the event organiser. I feel the onus is on the management person who thinks it is ok to get couples to consider changing their wedding dates after they have paid a deposit. But I am not sure if you guys want to align with such an hotel that puts profits over their contract obligations.
