many thanks to vera (poor soul, so many things to manage after michele and liping's departure) who tied down the balance of the work.

had a great time chattin over things with her. she even helped me with some recommendations for flowers when i had problems with my bridal car.

ladies (& james),

right now in governor suite. 2nd nite of my stay. took a laptop along to do my AP accounts etc... and usin the internet access. will be a long long field report.

first, the dinner last nite. had a great time, tho i had plenty of hiccups all the way to AD. things like wine (supplier delivered shiraz instead of cabernet), mother forgot to bring IC for solemnization.

and of course, the headache with the suite allocation. originally it was governor for AD, and i bought oriental for 2nd nite. and then vera requested me about givin up governor to accomodate one of her regular guest. in return, she upgraded me to presidential, and offered for both nites as well, with oriental rate. quite a good deal, i thought.

then things went wrong, vera got back and had issue with the following nite couple (5/7) who also was promised presidential. and asked if i can take governor on 2nd nite instead. i didn't want to make it difficult for vera, and consented.

then the eve of AD, vera reported issues again. some frontdesk mixup resulted in my 2nd nite not confirmed in governor. asked her to try and sort out the mess, which she did by 6pm on the eve. much to my relief.

and then my montage went wrong. i designed my own photo montage, and sent in a copy for their AV guy to run through for march-in, montage, and food entry. my own montage had the borders clipped off by the projectors, and partial content were off the screen.

as such it was a mad rush on midnite of 2 jul, as i raced to edit and produce one that will have a margin all around to take care of the issue.

check in by my helpers in advance, but with some problems. also slight problems with the access card reading on the lifts.

meanwhile, my evenin crew linked up with lewis, my banquet IC. he did a great job, walking me through the whole thing. i was too physically and mentally exhausted to register and process anything, and had other non-banquet issues to deal with. just requested him to 'hold my hand' through the nite.

and so the show started after delay.. at about 8.30pm, due to guest latecomin. everythin went through smoothly. and we cleaned off the 30L barrel, and even a couple bottles of martell. wine strangely was consumed at about 12 (complimentary by hotel) + 9 (corkage free brought in) bottles.

2 commendable things lewis did for me. 1, he gave me the trick to prep myself for the liquor onslaught. even though with only 1/4 tank in stomach, it held well enough to allow me to send off all my guests. drank a neat cup of martell to thank my brothers who helped me in the day.

2nd thing he did, was to help me control the liquor movement. my brothers would probably have wiped off 3 bottles of martell if he hadn't found a way to deal with the situation. and he managed my 30L barrel well.

farewell for guests ended @ about 10.45pm, with everyone gone by 11.30pm.

vera did great to help me with the evenin complimentary meals. i had been too busy preparin for my solemnisation (in Coleman Room), that it wasn't consumed. she arranged for me to consume on 2nd night of stay, but as a buffet in indulge (the cafe). of course, plenty of ear listening, as i ranted about all the issues i had to face in preparation of this day...

now, the presidential suite, was... great. plenty of space to let everyone do their things. and same inhouse jacuzzi tub as the one in governor. as i was so much in a hurry for the day, i didn't bring my digicam along to take pictures of the suite.

2 levels of the suite. upstairs has a small kitchen, toilet, and dining table, with a sofa set. whole space about the size of a governor suite.

downstairs, an office table, sofa set, and the bed. with the bathroom, wardrobe etc. that one, even bigger. about an extra room space.

and yeah, before i go, had a relaxin time at the outdoor jacuzzi earlier. catch up with you guys again later, with pictures of the governor suite. my dad had to bring down my digicam today, so i can snap some pictures for those interested.

hi elyn82,

it depends on how u arrange your march-in...if its L-shaped, max 24 tables...if straight march-in, can fit up to 29 tables...best to go down and take a look though =)

Hiya, i'm keen to take up this place too for my AD but was told that 2008 / 2009 price list not up, if i made booking now, they will readjust the price if neccessary, anyone experience this before?

hdbanger

elyn82:

you can find it in the old GPPH thread (ie GPPR). there's a user who posted some ballroom pics. check around the pages.

max for that place is 33 tables. but short walkdown. if you want a long one, max is 24 tables.

33 is cramped. i had 30 tables for mine, and space was comfortable enough.

hope it helps.

ladies (esp mabeleve & wasabi),

so sorry for the long delay. was sick after wedding (exhaustion caught up), and thru honeymoon. spend a little time recoverin after returning, and then catch up with backlog work imm after that. so i didn't get down to settlin the pics imm; too many to organize.

but they're loaded up already, includin the governor suite. the rest are my BS, AD and honeymoon pics. over 900 of them in total. enjoy...

PS: not many pics taken of the ballroom decor. but some pics taken of my helpers @ reception table. and the canning room (ground floor behind the waterfall) where i did my ROM.

http://photo.distancer.net

one last thing i'd like to do... orientate the rest of you potential users of the jacuzzi:

you'd find the activation button at the side of the pool, and it'd bubble and froth like how it was in my pics. and it'd go on for quite a while. think it's about 10-15 mins. please do not panic and think it'd go on forever (like i did). after that, it'd shut down, and all'd be peaceful again.

there's no way to stop the jacuzzi before the time is up, btw. and strangely, it'd get hot after a while of soaking. guess it's the water running through and getting some of the heat from the machinery etc.

sorry if i sound 'suaku', but i'm not a spa/gym visitor. so i'm not aware of all the workings. just to share with those who are as uninformed as i am.

as for surrounding view, you'd see the neighbouring excelsior hotel being the possible peeping toms (if any). else, all is safe. i only used the jacuzzi at night. and no, my wife and i weren't that brave to take it all off.

also, we weren't able to use the bathtub at the main toilet, as water was still leaking even tho we activated the stopper. everything else was good.

the feedback was good overall. just one or two minor issues with service (one waitress too in hurry to clear plates). like i said, i had no probs with the banquet side. it was the front desk that received grouses from me.

ladies:

have disabled the pics for now. wife feels a little overexposed. esp to strangers she never met. so i have to respect her wishes, and instead locked up the place, for now. will open it again when she's feelin better about it. sorry for the inconvenience. 8P

if anyone really wanna see the gov'nor suite, let me know. i see if i can open it up again.

Henry was previously from Marina Mandarin and just joined this hotel for abt 3 mths i guess...my 1st meet up with him is that he is quite professional and friendly...a good talker in fact...afterall he has been in this line for more than 10 years or so. but generally ok lah...so let's just wait for their upcoming wedding show for more attractive perks

vera handled my case, after takin over fr michele, who left sometime in june.

not sure about henry, like what cheys28 said, he's in this line for long time. he should be fittin in after a couple of months. vera was slow to reply at times too. but i pass it partially cos she was handlin all cases before henry stepped in.

sathpaul:

i prob will open up the governor suite pics. as for the AD and BS pics etc, i prob have to talk to my wife again about it. she's a little miffed at me now. heh.

Currently exploring Grand Plaza too..targetting at 25 tables. But on 2nd thoughts, no doubt that the ballroom can accomodate up to 33 tables, but i wonder if the chairs will be pegged back to back for the guest. Cox i din wan my guest to start shifting whenever there are guest walking behind them as they need to "squeeze" in between the chairs...this is just some thoughts as i attended my friend's wedding and apparently, whenever there is a guest walking past behind me, i HAVE TO stand up and shift my chair to make way for him/her...this is just so cramp & uncomfortable

hdbanger

cheys28:

if you look at 25, no problem with chair hitting. i did 30 tables (28+2). managed to sit everyone in comfortable enough. once past 30, chairs start knocking.

go down to the ballroom in evening (esp weekend) if you have time, and see if you can catch a dinner preparation in process. then you can find out how it's like with the chairs, imaginin all of them seated. that'd put your mind at ease.

Thks alot HdBanger for coming back to this thread as our consultant even though your wedding is over..tat's nice of you =)

just some questions on the decorations cox i checked with Henry and he said they do not have "themes"..so instead they will focus on flowers arrangement...but how would you know which type of flower arrangement would turn out nice? plus their 'chinese calligraphy' drawings by the side, which looks abit 'chee-na', i just feel that the room decorations can be quite limited cox it can't be too westenise or too Zen type...

Hi, everyone.
I'm planning to hold my wedding banquet in Nov'08 and would b attending the bridal show in Sep'07.

Went to take a look at the hotel last weekend wif fiance and went in probably by the back of the hotel, direction facing fort canning. Went in and made a turn before seeing the reception. Realise tt the lot for packing's minimal and the hotel's located next to an old building with shops selling sex toys etc. Anione has problems wif tt? :p

HdBanger, sure would luv to take a look at the photos too. =)

cheys28:

as for decor, it's free play. ie, they open a catalogue, and you choose what kinda flowers/table cloths etc you want. but if i rem correctly, all have to be from same florist. they have 2-3 florists offerin the arrangements and decor.

talk to your coord about it, and they can explain more.

tan cs:

yes, parkin can be slight problem, if everyone's drivin. there's about 100+ lots available. and less if they have high occupancy rate.

if the lots are maxed, you can use the neighbouring multistorey carpark. behind capitol theatre. plus, some people who take MRT, can just walk over from city hall. also convenient. hope it helps.

as for the sex toys shop... i don't have a prob with that. all of us are adults. kids nowadays are more mobile than our time. you can't stop them from walkin into one of those. and it's not in the same building with the hotel. no issue.

pics are opened for now. for my ex-principal's sake. i'd probably close it when some later bride opens their album. 8) a chance for everyone.

hi kiki, the wedding show is coming up on 22nd sep. acc to henry, there'd be $1888 off for min 28 tables. other perks, i am not sure. but package prices have just been upped by abt $40 each table.

pringirl

i was targetting @ 22 tables initially. however, we asked henry to give us free flow beer if we were to book 25 tables. his boss has since agreed (provided we also settle our own wedding cards). our AD is on a weekday. is it a good deal?

fyi (2008 package) - all nett prices
mon-thu: $728
fri/sun: $848
sat: $888/$908

cheys28

i thought that their min table booking is 25 tables?

Anyway ladies, better check out their wedding fair perks before signing up...cox the last time i heard was that for every 10 tables, they will 1 table free... but not sure how true is it

cheys28

New Member
y dun u try out Grand Copthorne Waterfront? they have 3 ballrooms to cater to different no of tables. by the way, try to negotiate with GPPR on the minimum 28 tables...i believe they can. Afterall, if u are gg by weekday, should be ok since their original capacity for weekday is 22 tables.
