Hi Moon, I am also torn between Traders/GH/Regent. What made you decide to go with GH in the end? I am really attracted to the service+style+decor at Regent, but I am left with the Tanglin (max 20) room, which is long and narrow.. am considering GH Hibiscus room.. any advices? GH seems to have a bigger room (more squarish, nicer), but simpler decor..

Jenn: I also have Rachel liaising with me! But she is extreeeeemely slow at replying my emails. humph.

Trina: How many tables did you have before they actually upgraded you to the grand ballroom? You're so lucky!!

Wendy,
I found the Tanglin Room worn out looking, and that guests sitting near the tables at the windows would have their view blocked. Traders has a great looking ballroom (can't rem which, was the junior one where we attended a wedding show). Out of the 3 ballrooms, GH wins hands up. Factors I considered were:
quality of food
location of hotel
services available
flexibilty in preferred arrangements

I wouldn't use "simple" to describe the decor at the Hibiscus
Ballroom, since the choice to have the selected type of decor is really up to the wedding couple. Some couples bring in their own florists & arrange for alternative table settings. I got my florist to do up one of the Magnolia Rooms, where I had my solemnisation.

The Hibiscus Room suited my number of tables (abt 20) very well. The staff was accomodating, the food was tasty, the suite was a dream & the entire experience was more than satisfactory. My hb & I are very happy with Hyatt.

Hope my input helped

Thanks Moon, for your opinions. Think Trader's will be out of the list for now. it's really value for money, but there're so many poor reviews abt the service..

Tanglin room now looks way better, because they just changed the carpets end of last year. Also, I was told the tables will not be near the windows as there will be service tables placed there, so tables will be shifted nearer the aisle (thus narrower aisle). I really like the looks and spaciousness of the GH Hibiscus room.. from photos at least. noone's available to let me view the place today..

hopefully someone will be around tmr.

What additional perks did you manage to get on top of the basic package at GH? The services at both Regent and GH are good, and food also.. so i think it boils down to ballroom and price. Regent is cheaper than GH on weekends (the other way round on weekdays!).. so is GH ballroom worth the money? >.<

Hi everyone,

My wife and I just got married on Sunday at the Grand Hyatt, we were at the Grand Ballroom and I'd like to give a (rather long) feedback on our experience.

I must tell you that we both had a wonderful experience and that the Hyatt delivered above expectations service that made our day even more special.

Not a single details was left unchecked by the catering staff : from the coordinator to the banquet manager and staff.

The Grand Ballroom was beautifully decorated, the A/V and lighting system worked perfectly well and helped make the ambiance quite dramatic, there was a lot more food than expected and the quality was way above what we tried at both the bridal show (which was already fantastic) and at the tasting (which was ok only, perhaps something to do with the chef on that evening). We mentioned we were a bit worried after the tasting and also wanted to change a couple of dishes (from menu A to B). We soon were comforted by our coordinator who told us she'd send the feedback to the Chef. All the changes we wanted to have made were made (quality, quantity, change of dishes...)

A word on our coordinator (Mandy). She was very professional, very friendly and has accommodated a lot of our last minute changes.
The banquet manager on the wedding day itself was extremely friendly and efficient. He took great pride in delivering the best possible and achieved just that. he also helped us with the (highly unexpected) extra meals. The service was impeccable (so say the guests!)

The suite was nice, not too spacious though but just nice for the bride, the mums, sisters and MC to get their makeup done comfortably by 2 makeup artists.

Food was delivered into the room after the wedding in a warmer. I was rather disappointed that the chocolate fondant (from a western meal) was not in the warmer. I thought the Banquet manager failed to provide top notch service until the end but soon my brother (and MC) confessed he ate it up while I was busy! (what can I say, even my MC is eating my food ;) )

Overall, I would definitely recommend to anyone to have a wedding at the Hyatt. All the people we interacted with at the Hyatt cared about us and about our wedding and made sure that we and our guests had a great time on that Sunday evening!

The feedback we had from our families and guests was that it was a great wedding and that service and food were great. My European friends loved the chinese food and they all had a good time (well, they wouldn't say it if it had been boring...).

What we know is that the smiles on their faces and their laughter could not be fake and that they all enjoyed the evening at least as much as we did!

Wendy, u can read about my review here.
http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/messages/6/1526100.html?1279527969

I wanted an upgrade from the standard bridal suite. The Grand Deluxe King is about 54sqm, which was really quite small, as we had family with us in between the few events we held at Hyatt. I asked for a complimentary top-up for the second night, and so only paid the difference for one night. Was about $300 I think. A worthy price to pay for 83sqm of space.

I'm sure you could negotiate for the perks that you would like. My hb & I didn't ask for many perks, as we were really happy with what we were offered, and gladly signed up with Hyatt. We're looking forward to spending our first anniversary at Hyatt in a few months

Hi all

Anyone recently been to a Hyatt wedding? How is the food? I heard they don't have a restaurant but hire a catering group to provide for the banquet.

Poorthing: sounds like Sir Stamford Room might be suitable for u. no pillars. U could contact Hyatt directly to ask to take a look so that they can give u a tour of the suitable rooms for u.

I believe quite a number of banquets-searcher had been going around finding their perfect wedding location..

I'd been to Grand Hyatt and Mandarin Orchard wedding fair this weekend. I was extremely impressed with Grand Hyatt and decided to sign with them. Based on their packages, I am getting the following:

- 2 nights stay at their Grand Suite (upgraded from their Grand Club Deluxe Room which is a junior suite)
- $380 credit on our bill during our stay at their hotel
- 2 x 1 night stay at their guestroom (I exchanged my 1-year Hyatt membership in replace for an additional guestroom)
- 1 bottle of house wine for every table
- 1 barrel of beer (30 L)
- 2 x canapes during pre-cocktail session
- Voucher for a complimentary anniversary night stay at their Grand Club Deluxe Room (Junior suite)

The usual fresh flowers/ table, wedding cake etc are included. What else could I bargain for? Honestly, I am very please with Mandy who assisted me throughout the process. Will be posting the pictures later...

Hi davmes, thanks for sharing!i also visited both mandarin and hyatt today! have to agree the contemporary style in hyatt is simple yet stylish.
htb likes the simple decor in hyatt. but the price 1288++ kept us think twice becoz it exceeded our initial budget. after gst n service the charge per table will be about 1515. (not inclusive of the extra wines that we might incur.) we are quite worried the angpao might not be even an avg of $150.

but hyatt has the solemnization area, changing room just outside the ballroom which is a plus point! and with the above perks thrown in as mentioned by Davmes, its sooo attractive!!!
sigh! really a tough decision.

mandarin orchard was so crowded today. didnt have a chance to speak to the coordinator. even someone took our no. to call us, nobody contacted us after we finish visiting hyatt! think their price at 998++ is attractive, but also feel that imperial ballroom seems alil packed...

I agree that Grand Hyatt is very expensive. After calculations, taking the median of ang boa at $120 and the 'loss' of a certain number of tables to my in-laws, we will be having a loss of $14-15k...

So we asked ourselves if we are willing to pay this amount for a once-in-a-lifetime wedding, the answer is pretty obvious...

Our co-ordinator is Hun Leng. Although there is a negative review about her here, I don't think it is too much of a problem. Too often, we have a culture of making complaints and not giving compliments. Although my initial impression of hun Leng is not too good, I thought it could be the fatigue from the bridal fair...

Can't wait for the actual wedding to be here!

I just had an event at The Gallery, and took a standard lunch buffet package. Everyone (seriously a lot of people!) had very good reviews of the food.

If you are particular about the food, I suggest you review the menus thoroughly with your sales people and give constructive criticism during the review with the chef after the food tasting. I've been to wedding dinners at the same venue where the quality difference is so much, and of course the one which was really good belonged to a couple who are real foodies.

Hi Daymes,

Your co-ordinator is Hun Leung, same as mine too. Hmm.. my first impression of her isn't that good as well, not really that helpful and the kind of attitude is "take it or leave it".. but i guess ur right, our culture is making complaints instead of compliments and hence we also drop the idea of changing to another co-ordinator

hi jenny u are taking the gallery as well? i went for their wedding show too. the food really impress me.. however the deco is abit plain. wonder if i can engage florists to deco the area..

I did my wedding at hyatt last year. The food was good, planning perfect and service was beyond our expectations. U should see how both sides parents were so happy, esp my mum -_-"

My coordinator is Mandy, I highly recommend. I felt very comfortable with her unlike other coordinators I met when shortlisting e venue.

hi all,

anyone able to share if there is venue in GH to hold 180-250 that has high ceiling and pillarless?

seems like Mandy is popular coordinator - but i heard that GH will be having renovations next yr, is this true?

For those brides who has held their weddings at GH, were there any confusions for your guests when attending the wedding banquet as i understand taht there are many function rooms in GH?

Hi

Yes GH Is undergoing some Reno next yr and they are only left with ballroom.

Am meeting Silver this weekend to discuss 2012 package. Anyone met her before? Or anyone having their wedding next yr too?

I'm considering btw Oriebtal & Hyatt cuz the price is only slight diff and oriental is only giving me a function room.

Any useful reviews abt Hyatt, silver the coordinator, Oriental etc will be highly appreciated.

GH is going for reno next yr? meaning those smaller rooms like Hibiscus will be closed, is it true?

Hi Linksie/anybody, can I have Mandy's email address, please?

bliss star - hibiscus is the nicest ballroom (in my opinion) in GH. pillarless, and has a exclusive foyer. down side is that it is located right at the end of the corridor. i like it alot, but heard that it will be due for reno June next yr from mandy. not sure when will reno be completed.

I'd just held my dinner at The Gallery @ Grand Hyatt and this was my email to them:

Dear Hyatt,

When my wife and I signed up for your bridal package during a fair last year, we were uncertain if we had made a right choice. Food has always been the key for all banquets and although the food during the fair were sumptuous and delicious, we knew that it could just be a one-off affair, so as to attract potential customers. We were comprehensive about The Gallery as we do not have any friends who'd chosen The Gallery as their banquet event. However, our overall experience with Hyatt was an extraordinary pleasant affair. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank your staff and to mention a specific few. However, I am unable to remember their name and thus, require for you to find out who they are and assist to express my heartfelt gratitude to.

Hun Leng – She is our sales co-ordinator. She is very sensitive, pre-emptive and meticulous in all dealings with regard to the banquet preparation. She manages our expectations well so that we will not be disappointed with anything which will turn up mismatching to our ideas. During our busy schedule in preparation for the wedding, she was objective and ensured that she wasted no time of ours during tele-conversation, so as to confirm details. With her experience, she advised us on various matters such as table arrangements, hotel stay etc. Overall, my wife and I are very pleased with her and will recommend her to our friends, if any of them are keen to hold their wedding at The Gallery. (In fact, we have a number of friends who are shortlisting The Gallery as their choice event)

Banquet Manager – I am unable to remember his name as he manages the banquet with my best man. From the words of my best man, "he is a very responsible and accommodating manager". Likewise, he advised us against certain decisions, so as to make the whole dining experience a much better one. For instance, I was supposed to play my Morning Highlights and "Thank-You" speech after dish 3. He advised against holding it and was very polite in asking for our permission to push the event to dish 4. That is because dish 4 is steamed fish and it would not be nice if the fish were to remain in the kitchen for long as they may turn cold. How thoughtful! Also, he was very responsive and I thought there were 2 of him! He is almost always around, although he was instructed to follow up with my best man. Whenever I require him, he will be around me as well.

AV Technician – He has been very helpful and professional with his dealings with the AV equipment. There were many last minute request, for instance the lighting sequencing, the playing of media etc, which he needed my decision. Knowing that I was very busy managing pre-banquet details, he recommended his suggestion and I just have to say, "okay". I was so glad that it turned out all well and I must admit, NOTHING went wrong regarding media and technical aspects. Although technical fault is hard to predict and we may have our fingers crossed, credit will have to go to him for the management.

VIP Table Server – I cannot remember her name but she was the lady who served us during the food tasting also. I had given her an "ang boa" during the banquet night. She was very attentive to us and prompt in services. In addition, a wallet was recovered (intact) after the banquet and was handed over to us, by her. Although it could be picked up by one of your serving staff and eventually passed to her, it represents the integrity of all your staff (full/part-time) and is truly commendable. The owner of the wallet is one of our relatives.

All in all, I am sure many of your staff had played a big role in making the banquet a success (which may include kitchen staff/ back room helpers, cleaners etc). Many of them, I may not have a chance to hear their stories but I am sure you will extend our heartfelt thanks to all of them.

We'd received countless compliments from our guests with regard to your hotel's service standards. Most importantly, the food was excellent and most of our guests stayed till the end. A number of them is looking to hold their wedding at The Gallery!

Hi Davmes, which package did u take? SGD1288 one?
according to you, how is the food as i have never attended wedding dinner at Hyatt before?

davmes

New Member
Yeap, I took the SGD 1288 package.

We signed during their bridal promotion period where we get a free upgrade to a Grand Club Suite as opposed to a Grand Club Deluxe. Nonetheless, regardless Grand Club Suite/ Deluxe, you will have exclusive use of their Grand Club, located at Level 21 and they have cocktail everyday between 6 and 8pm, with free canapes, tea and coffee.

To top it up with a credit of SGD380, you can use it for in-room dining etc.

We were surprised with a free couple spa also, where we used it on the day after our wedding. The package is retailing at $600.

The food is excellent. It's very hard for us to fully describe the texture/ taste of the food over here but do manage your expectations appropriately.

Overall, it was a pleasurable experience holding our wedding at Hyatt.

The key for many brides, I suppose, is the 3-tier cake, where your guests will enjoy it as part of their desert. =)

thanks for the explanation, davmes.
im also considering hyatt, just that i read so many negative comments about hyatt from this forum...did u do ur wedding at The Gallery?

I saw the package that the cake given for gallery is only 2-tier cake. How come yours is 3-tier? Yeah, all tiers are genuine which can be shared among guets.

And i noticed that u got lots of freebies during bridal show. the package i asked has no beer/wine/canapes.
Too bad no wedding show currently..hahhaha

Yeap, I had my wedding at The Gallery.

I was comprehensive about holding my wedding at Hyatt as I'd read negative comments regarding the place. Therefore, I was very thankful when it all turned out well. Afterall, I have 2 couples who are seriously considering to hold their wedding at The Gallery after attending my wedding. They were extremely impressed.

I thought I had a good deal during their bridal show last year. And Hyatt/ Hun Leng was very accomodating. At the end of the day, we have to manage our expectations and not be overly upset when certain requests are not met.

During the bridal show, I had a free upgrade to a 3-tier wedding cake, canapes, beer/wine etc...

Spoke to one of their coordinators over the phone the other day, they said that they wouldn't have a wedding show this year. (??) Also, for weekend weddings, the prices are up by $100 to $1388 at the Gallery.
