I just placed a booking with GH for Oct 2009.
I'm deciding between the red/black theme or red/white theme. As i'm having my dinner in SS room, not sure if the red/black theme will actually make the room look even smaller.

Also, any feedback on their bridal suite? Is it big and nice? =)

Hi icepurplelatte, it will be gd if you can take the red/black theme. I was captivated by it during the bridal show but eventually chose white/gold due to the elderly. I was using SSR too

Hihi reine,
no the ceiling is not high... and there are 2 (or is it 4) pillars next to the aisle, i.e. the place where u make a right angle left-turn to continue march-in. the Mag/Van is actually a combination of function rooms that they remove all the partitions.
R u having ur AD there too? or still considering?

reine

New Member
Considering and very likely. HTB and myself actually saw the place but can't remember if the ceiling was too low, until my friend mentioned.

I actually wanted Grand ballroom, but for weekends, you need to hit a min of 45 tables, which is way too much for us.

Mag/Van seems like the best choice now.

i didn't see the grand ballroom. only saw SSR and Mag/Van. Honestly, now as i keep thinking back, i like the feel of SSR cos of the decor of the room. but price wise abit steep. and my HTB thinks that we sure can get 30tables so shld get bigger. so only Mag/Van suitable for us.
when's ur AD reine?

I'm looking at Oct09.

What about you pebbles?

Does anyone know what's the switcher for? Cos my coordinator mentioned something about switcher for the plasma tv.

pebblydiamonds

New Member
mine's booked for Dec 09 already.

erm the switcher, if i'm not wrong, is so that u can use just 1 laptop, control everything with that 1 laptop, then it can b flashed on both the plasma tvs that they provide.
without the switcher u only connect 1 laptop to 1 tv, then u mus get 2persons with superb coordination to activate ur videos at same time from 2 laptops.

reine

New Member
wah that's fast pebbles! Singaporeans are booking earlier and earlier, I'm having problems getting my preferred date.

so did you get the switcher?

What wishes did you get?

Who's your coordinator?

Haha, hope it's not too much questions.

pebblydiamonds

New Member
haha cos we panicked when we called orchard parade n found the whole of dec 09 dinners booked. so we went into mass emailing the hotels to find a suitable one. siaoness actually. was really hectic at that time, organised it probably by tabulating it into an excel sheet.

the switcher have to find ourselves, not provided. we also had to find 1 more projector. my HTB will be trying to borrow from his colleague. hope by next yr will still b available n usable!

the wishes we haven't confirmed, my coordinator said confirm next yr.

my coordinator's Myra Ho. She's nice n i could click with her straightaway during 1st meet-up.

nope not too many qns. actually it's very nice to get to know ppl planning for a similar event and have things in common!

Oh Yah! I did the spreadsheet too. I'm in a more frantic situation now!

Why do you have to find 1 more projector? Is it cheaper? haha.

I've heard good and bad reviews on Hyatt, some said the dinner is quite ex, but we actually found it cheaper than the rest of the 5 stars, given the same few perks.

Still not sure if I should make the booking.

pebblydiamonds

New Member
haha don't be too frantic. the date u want is still available right? i think they can hold it for abt 2weeks once u express interest. unless someone else requests for the same day, they r quite ok holding the room for u i think.

heh need to find 1 more projector because: the room itself doesn't have 1. they provide 2 LCD screens right at the front next to the stage. so u need 2 projectors. we pushed for them to include 1 LCD projector in our package. so we have to find another one..

hmm i've heard mixed reviews abt Hyatt too. i think for 5-star it's fairly ok. i heard gd reviews abt the food, so that is of utmost priority for me. furthermore mine is full vege banquet, so even more important that Hyatt has had a good track record of doing full vege banquet.

i think most of the hotels won't give a cash discount on their package. probably u can just be more persistent with asking for freebies. E.g. carpark tickets, swapping the anniversary voucher etc for sth else that u need more in the package, etc etc la... haha. really depends on what u need.
who's ur coordinator?

reine

New Member
Ooh, full vege, that's cool.
happy.gif

My coordinator is Marie. I actually got to know her from one of our events. And kinda fell in love with Grand Ballroom. But then, I can't hit 45 tables at all. so it's mag/vanda for me.

Your 1 LCD projector came for free, so it's not within your wishes? Can't you use your wishes to redeem for the other LCD projector?

I'm actually more worried about the beer, how many barrels would I need for like 300 over people? and I can only get 1 barrel free from the wishes.

What other perks did you push for?

Hi kittyng, i like the black/red theme too. I've also seeked permission from my elders, they are ok with it. Just that one of our fren mentioned that using the black/red theme might make the ballroom looks small. So i'm trying to gather more feedbacks on this.... anyway i told my co-ordinator to inform me should there's a wedding going on in SS with black/red theme, so that we can pop by to have a quick look... hee~

Hey ladies,

For those who have held weddings in Grand Hyatt, does your photographer find it challenging to take photos cos of the dim lights?

Hi icepurplelatte, so nice that you managed to get approval

Yeah, think it's a gd idea to look at the setup at the actual venue. Cox the last time i saw the black theme was at hibsicus room. Love it

hi all

Hyatt BTB, anyone has Brenda as their coordinator? any idea how i can ask for more perks? i tried to ask for more carpark coupons..seems tough....

pebblydiamonds

New Member
Hi osk,
i think Hyatt is not so keen to provide more carpark coupons. you can try pushing for an extra night's stay? or waiver of some of the corkage. or ask for complimentary projector. can try to push for complimentary day-use room for helpers.. some of these already provided in wishes, so gotta prioritize...

Hi all, I went to Hyatt again this evening.

There were 4 weddings altogether at Grand Ballroom, Hibiscus, Camelia and Magnolia/Vanda.

Grand Ballroom is super nice, so is Hibiscus and Camelia. Magnolia is not bad, but the pillars are really distracting. Cos people who are at the centre can't see the Projector Screen on the left and right, and people at the sides can't see the stage.

I'm thinking of going with SSR, but there was no setup today. If not, I will go with Hibiscus. Cos Hibiscus's march in is as long as SSR.

Camelia, is mainly for a small group like 18 tables. It's really cosy too.

Oh btw, they were testing the sound systems in Hibiscus and Grand Ballroom, seems quite ok to me, for those who are particular.

Hi reine,

thanks for ur info! i think SSR is classy... however it's more ex.. sigh. well hope i have the minimum number for Mag/Van then i'l just ask them to arrange the tables in best possible way to minimise blocking...

reine

New Member
SSR is more ex? Per table price is the same.
happy.gif
Just that it's smaller, I have to cut down on my invite list. And I just got the reply from my coordinator on the availability, only the 3rd choice is available.
Mag/Vanda got my 2nd choice. sigh.

Actually, HTB took photos of the Grand Ball room setup, i could email to you if you want.

Hi osk, that time i had managed to ask for a slight top up in carpark coupons....but i think only a very small %. Like pebbles said, can try to push for other wishes that u think are more impt

i don't know if that's the standard, so far my coordinator, even if i can't get her during 1st call she'l also call me back very soon. quite reliable, i hope she'l b there all the way till my AD next yr...
mayb i'm a little on-the-ball and anxious too, so nv wait for her to call me, i call her up already...

Hi Pebbles.. not v nice to reveal her name :p
I knw I shd be partly responsible too cos i didnt call her earlier.. That's y after the incident on the invites, i called her up to chase on the food tasting.. Seriously i wasnt pleased with her follow-up. I understand she has many events to follow thru but this is part of her job isnt it?

Hey Alltogothere.. do u think we are using the same coordinator? We are so unlucky

when is ur AD? Im goin for my food tasting tonite.. a little nervous cos this is the 1st time our parents are meeting :p

Hi CA & alltogothere, i think it varies coordinator to coordinator. In fact, that time i collected my invites very early. But it's true that we need to take the initiative to call them first to arrange. But usually when i couldn't reach her, she would return call.

Something gd abt my coordinator was she actually helped me to liase directly with my credit card bank for increased credit limit. Saved me lots of time

Hi to all BTB, I've reserved 16 Oct 09 at GH, was wondering if i shd wait for the wedding show to pay for the deposit. Care to share what are the extra perks offered at the show?

reine

Hi CA, I heard from my coordinator that wedding cards are supposed to be sent out 2 months prior to wedding. There after, there will be a lot of dingdongs. Yours is quite late, I would have chased her so if I havent heard from her since sep.
Maybe you should highlight to her??

Hi Lereen, is there going to be a wedding show soon?
I have just confirmed my booking.

Hi Lereen,
is ur date an auspicious one? and when is the wedding show? i didn't sign mine up at wedding show but i'm kiasu and my date is hot, so when we could confirm we quickly called our coordinator.

anyway u have to decide if u really choose GH, cos they will send u the contract first. they will send u soft copy, when no errors in soft copy, they'l send u hard copy thru snail mail. both of u must sign and fax back to them by a certain date. i think they give 2 weeks. then after that within another 2 weeks then u go pay the deposit. that's the timeline la.

Hi Lereen, i signed up at hyatt wedding show last yr. Not too sure whether the perks are similar this yr.

Thank you all so much for the advice. Will be meeting with GH Sales Manager tomorrow. Not sure if i should pay the deposit right away or wait for bridal show to enjoy the perks.

Hi Kitty, your perks is very good cos we are only offered 1 or 2 of those wishes u mentioned

pebblydiamonds

Lereen: u meeting the sales manager to see the place? then i suggest u don't mention anything about deposit first, unless they are giving u the final version of the contract. u have some time even after that to decide before u place deposit.

Hi ladies,

I held my wedding banquet at the Grand Ballroom of GH in Nov of 07. One year has since passed and I still think of it with fond memories (especially the food n services!). The overall experience was good but I must admit that I had to be the more proactive one in contacting the coordinator otherwise she's really prompt in getting back. I chose the cream n gold theme which made the ballroom looked brighter and more spacious. I had similar concerns regarding the wedding favors, the dim lighting of the ballroom, sound system, split cables, to get extra projector or not and worrying abt the interesting fare at Hyatt (given the lack of a Chinese restaurant) etc. But in the end I realised that those worries were really unnecessary cos everything turned out well!

I got my wedding favors from some shop at Beach Road (handmade ceramic spoons and ceramic keepsake boxes) as I didn't like the idea of giving food. But I must admit that their chocs as well as their pineapple tarts are really YUMMY! haha. Since I did not get my wedding favors from GH, I requested for an extra room for an overnight stay which I gave to my parents since they too would be tired from the full-day ordeal. So in the end we only paid for one extra room for my in-laws. My hubby managed to loan an extra projector from his company so u gals can try doing that too. My PG managed to take some really great pics despite the "dim" lighting. Also Hyatt does loan the split cable at a charge. They took note of all the comments we made during the food tasting n did the necessary changes. Everybody commented that the portion is fit for a table of 12 not 10. So GH is really generous with the portion. Then there's their lovely centrepieces for every table. The sound system didn't give any problem at all. The captain and the serving staff were really wonderful too. We received many compliments for hosting our event at GH.

So I would say... dun worry too much. Just enjoy the whole process! It will be over sooner than u wish!
