Hi Karen and Janet,

Yes...according to GWC, prices of banquet for hotels are expected to rise by $50 per table.

I booked mine on weekend Sunday $888 per table before the new packages were out. We have also selected Grand Ballroom.

I'm now waiting for "food-tasting' day to come. I'm sort of 'over-promised' my parents and grandparents that the food is nice! Haha...really betting on the food is nice. ^_^

I have heard not so good remarks about GWC's service as their service staff are not coordinated.. Anyone who had their banquet there have such problems?

Hi, just like to share what I learned from GCW regarding music. We are only allowed to use original CDs for march-in and montage. They will provide the background music during dinner. We can choose the genre but not song selection.

In short, don't copy, don't burn, don't embed music in your montage, no self-compilation.

Hi irene, but if we play the montage directly from our laptop (just link to their video and sound system).. in this case it should be ok if we burn copy etc right?

ber: That's what I had in mind too, otherwise how to sync, right?
Unfortunately, no.
I was specifically told "don't embed music in your montage"

How Not to embed music in montage?? That will be so weird... It is like watching a movie without sound... Imgaine how it would have felt... Terrible..

Regarding the music, it's not juz GCW. It's some new copyright law that just got passed recently i think. So all hotels across the board will haf to follow. If they dun, they run the risk of a fine or something... So the hotel staff will be quite vigilant in this area.

So ur coordinators for music and montage haf to coordinate quite well.

Last resort is to play the montage, and the CD at the same time.. but that will mean only 1 song or 2 from the same CD!!!

Gosh....

But one of my friend just finished @ M hotel dun apply this law and my other friend going to marry on Oct also dun apply this law from her hotel @ grand copthrone king . Since they are all from the same group , how come us (GCW) so special ...

I am kinda disappointed, this going to ruin my childhood montage and my express highlight montage .. sob sob

Vivian (vivberry) : Just check with the hotel again on this matter...

Personally i think this is also an important part of the night...

Ask them for suggestion..

When is your AD?

Hi Karen ,

my AD is on 14 March 2010 . As my Childhood montage, song is cut according to the photo display and i guess i cant play the orgi CD . Both i engaged ppl to do, so that is the matter that counts.

But i will still check with my hotel again to see hows it goes .. If really no choice , i guess i just have to follow their rule ..

Thank alot Karen ..

Hi all,

I just received an email from my coordinator. She informed me that GWC has paid the license fee to Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) for march-in and during dinner. She proposed that we can use the original songs which the hotel has or need to bring original song CDs.

As for montage, she recommended that it is wise to check with the videographer whether he/she has paid for the COMPASS license for the embedded songs. As for the cost of license, I'm still reading for more information. Anyway, I've pasted the COMPASS website link which is as follow (hopefully can work): http://www.compass.org.sg/cIndex133.aspx

Too tired to read any more... =)

omg! just to play a song with the montage for our PRIVATE event also so ma fan.... =(

hi Vivian : First of all.. congratulation on your coming wedding. (^^)!! Check with the hotel and hopefully they can suggest something to accommodate your request. Nevertheless.. you will still be the most beautiful person that night.. (^^)

Ber... i totally agree with you...

Gary... thank you SOoo much for the information.. So if we're outsourcing our montage. Better check with them carefully... Haiz..

Hi all, sorry that my previous post caused unhappiness. I just communicated with my coordinator again, reasoning that they have to pay license fee because they are doing business but I am a private individual and not profiteering from my personal montage. In the end, I got the answer and assurance that I sought after: I can embed music in my montage as long as I bring along all the CDs that contain all the music used. Now I think this is reasonable. Cheers!

Hello all,

Just wondering if there's anyone who is going to go without the food tasting?

They offered us 50% for food tasting but my fiance and I were thinking of just choosing the dishes since we have tasted the food at our friend's wedding and it was quite good.

Wondering if there's a difference in the food quality with and without food tasting :p

Hi gumdrops,

Have not gone for food tasting. I'm still in the midst of hestiation. Attended a wedding dinner @ GCW 3 years ago. The food was ok. Not so sure as of now.

As what maisie said, GCW will try to make the food nice... ^_^

maisie,
true true, was just wondering if it's a safe option to skip the food tasting. partly cos we don't have 10pax (my fiance's family are not in singapore)and it's quite pricey. :p so, you had your banquet already? the food was okay?

Hi everyone,

just wondering if anyone of you chose GCW as one of your locations for pre-wedding photoshoot?

I asked my coordinator about it and he said photo-taking is only allowed in the Promenade (Outdoor) and lobby only. I wonder which areas are covered under lobby since the hotel lobby area is really small.. In addition, they are not able to provide a changing room, only a common guest service area on Level 5.

ber: mine WAS in July but i brought forward to March.. heehee...

anyway i should say my coordinator, Eddie, is really accomdating.... he always tries his best to say "OK" to our requests... but if he really says cannot.. we know its really cannot... :]

trip to florist was OK.. the lady was on leave and i liaised with an Indian guy... he did proposed and gave ideas... done within 30 mins.. flowers not a wide range...

hey maisie.. ic ic haha

cos subconsciously i was counting down for u too muhahaha

So fast! March is like this month!!

Congrats congrats!!

look forward to see ur pictures on FB!! =D

Hi all!

I had food tasting cuz it was a good opportunity for both families to meet. We changed some dishes after the food tasting cuz they weren't to our liking. A matter of preferences.

Wedding's over and there were good reviews for some of the dishes, esp 1) deluxe chinese and japanese platter, 2) braised shark's fin with crab meat, top shell and harsma, 3)roasted crispy chicken with deep fried garlic and curry leaves (this is the top fav!), 4) red bean paste with glutinous balls.

Food wise, don't need to worry too much. Should be in good hands. ^.^

HI all,

just had my wedding on 20 march, saturday.. it was really fun some minor hiccups on the way but overall still quite alright and alot of ppl had quite good reviews about the food.. but one thing is that i opt for the lobster soup, its nice but a bit salty on AD. and the vege turned out to be sweeter than food tasting so must feedback to the kitchen ba.

one major thing to complain seriously is the projector. Please make an effort to go test run your montage before the AD becos the colour projection is really very off. My montage was quite badly affected that i decided to take away one of them as the colours turned out different from the actual pictures. MY blue gown literally turned to green colour on the projector. have already tested and its not my pictures fault. and they did tested it again and again but could only say that it is the projector so need technician to check. too bad we tested the montage only during the week of our AD. so they dun have enough time to rectify the problem. it's really quite bad..

then the video morning express highlights was well done by my videographer but it turned out super wash out for the ppl inside the video especially the hair looks brighter (tends towards the white side) and all the other colours too.. even alot of my guests notice the colour projection is wrong. i remember that my MIL asked me when i just sat down for my 1st dish "why the projector colour like that one?" i nearly cry la.. cos i scare like their relatives will mind or wat la..

please really do so. if you dont believe you could try to make an appointment to go and test run the montage.. please really do so

really advise all brides to go test run your montage until its really satisfied to your requirements.

other than that. the rest are ok. no issues with the service and food and all the banquet manager's services. they are very nice ppl and easy to negotiate with.
