Feng Mo - How to prevent them from popping out?

Dear all,

since young I have this tendency to develop this rashes which are warm & swollen. The doctors call it feng mo (wind rash).

According to them, allergic to food can cause it. Or weather / dust / air can also cause them.

Tomorrow is my rom and I went to trim my brows just now. Now I have a little rash on my face. I feel so sad. Luckily my rom is a small affair.

Now Im thinking of getting some advice from everyone to prevent this from happening on my AD.

Anyone has any ideas?

Hi Happy Girl,

I have Feng Mo before too. I had it all over my body and face. It was itchy. A really terrible experience. The worst was last year which lasted for almost 3 months!

Normally, I have these rashes due to eating seafood especially prawns and crabs. I went to see skin specialist but he couldn't explain the root cause. He said I must be allegic to something but don't know what. Then he came up with a theory that I might be allegic to seafood during a certain season. *Funny*

Anyway, there is no medicine to stop the rashes. Medicine can only control it from becoming worst. For me I took medicine everyday for that 3 months and one day it just suddenly went off. Weird huh.

During that period, the doctor gave me this medicine called Anti- Histamines (also a type of flu medicine). It helps to calm down the rashes outbreak but the medicine made me very drowsy. Kind of affect my work. I also took several injections cos mine was really serious. The doctor also gave me lotion to apply but doesn't work.

I tried applying medical oil on my skin. It actually helps to stop the itching and the rashes will be gone for at least 6 hours. But the downside is that not everyone like the smell of the medical oil.

One of my cousins also got Feng Mo before and she warmed white vinegar and applied it on her skin. She told me she managed to cure her rashes that way. But I never try cos I can't stand the smell of vinegar.

hi zoey,

the gd news is, e rash went off on my rom.

i have also taken the anti-histamines b4. took it for a few months. gosh.

the thing bout this feng mo is, i dunno what i am allergic to. it could be seafood or irritation to e skin (trimming of eyebrow).

the funny thing is, i eat seafood and trim my brows all e time thru out e year. but only get rash sometimes. so i really wonder if im really allergic to these items.

i will try to avoid seafood and trim my brows earlier. will avoid perfume too. hope it helps...

i also know feng mo is also due to e body being too heaty inside, but the outside of the body is cold (maybe weather or aircon). so the heat comes out thru breaking out of rashes. for this, i can try to eat light food and avoid heaty food. but sometimes, it is so difficult to keep e body warm right? the weather in Singapore is so hot!

hi happy girl,

dunno if u are reading this thread.

i have serious hives (urticaria) problem previously. mine is due to pressure. for eg, if i go for massage, the hives will pop out immediately. all red, swollen and itchy...
or if i get a paper cut, the hives comes along too. my condition is not from food, nor other allegens. you can actually get it check at the national skin centre.. what you are allergic to..

sadly the only way to keep them at bay is anti-histamines. i took them every day for bout 3 months (presribed from national skin centre, non drowsy), then the condition improved and i hardly get it now.. (touchwood)

Hihi...for feng mo to cease, can try the medicine called Zytrec which can be bought from pharmacies. Cost around $11 for a box of 10.

You can take one pill when the feng mo appears and after a while, it will cease. The medicine also prevents the recurrence of the feng mo for a period of time.

hi ladies

thank you for all ur kind replies. during the recent CNY, i got a bad case of feng mo again. went for an injection and it did subside a little. then gone by day 3.

i tried using warmed rice wine, but no use. now i read this thread again and i think i shld have used white vinegar! haha...

anyway i have sort of come to the conclusion tt my feng mo comes when im sick. cos i realized every time im not feeling well, rashes appear.

samantha,

i will try the hard liquor method if it comes again.

sagacious,

i usually see a doc for medicine when the rashes come. fr ur experience, is Zytrec more effective than medicine fr doc? cos i dun really dare to eat medicine bought over counter.

rachel,

thanks but i cant find guava leaves easily! :p

ginger,

yeah i took those anti-histamines b4 when i had sensitive skin. my doc suggest that i take prior to my AD so as to reduce the chance of the rashes appearing.

sigh! headache... i think this is what i'll do:

-take doc medicine b4 AD
-prepare hard liquor at home in case it happens
-worse come to worse go doc for injection on my AD!

anyone who has other methods of curbing this hives (feng mo), pls share!!!!

Happy gal, my MIL used to see a doctor for feng mo and she said the medicine looked like the zytrec which we told her to try.

Basically, what I understand from my friends are that flu medicine (yellow colour type) contains a type of medication (anti-histamines)which can prevent feng mo. This is also found in zytrec. So u can take the yellow colour flu medication.

Cheers
