Hi, I'm Ling. My fiance and I just booked our BTO flat last week. Was very happy initially as we plan to apply for the rental flat from HDB under the parenthood scheme as we will be gettibg married end of next month. Im happy as I will be an owner of a flat and sad coz have no place to stay after marriage.
My in-laws n my fiance stay in those One-room rental flat frm HDB, coz my in-laws couldnt afford to buy a unit in the past, my fiance has ever tried applying bto with his parents but failed. My brother will be getting married soon too, he will be using my room after im married. My MIL 65yo is on wheelchair, FIL 75yo is taking care of her. We ever thot of renting room from open market but hrd frm agent friends that landlords dun prefer local cpls. Thats y we plan to rent from HDB but there are no more 3rm flats available for rent under PPH scheme, their 4rm rental is abt $1200-1300 per mth not including pub yet, which is abit expensive for us. Our combined income is only 5k plus, my in-laws medical bills, rehab centre, diapers etc already cost 1k per mth, plus our expenses, other loans, save for renovation.etc. renting 4rm frm hdb is impossible.

Do you think i can go to MP on this issue?
Anyone can advise me? Both of us are so lost now. :(

Ya. I think you can go to the MP. With their help HDB will get you the 3-room flat. Alternatively, you can rent out one room if you have having a 4-room flat. In this way, it will reduce the burden.

I have actually emailed HDB abt the 3 room flat, they said those they have are not for immediate developments. Told me to check HDB website every now and then to c if 3rm is available. They suggest me to rent their 4rm flats as there are still quite alot available. :(

Who says landlord does not want to have local couples?
I think you should try to rent a room with your hubby which would only cost $600-$700 or check with your friends if they have empty rooms to rent out. At least they may charge you a little cheaper. This i think will make your life easier.

You cant rent out the extra room if you are renting from HDB. If you rent from outside, I dun think you can get any cheaper than HDB. Try MP method, in the event whereby someone withdraw, you can get priority maybe.
