Oh, just curious, how did u guys pick out ur engagement rings? Did you choose it together with ur bf or did he do it all by himself and surprise u wif his choice?

For me, my bf is letting me choose EVERYTHING, and den he'll use it to propose at a later time. Cos he feels tt it's smth tt i'll wear forever, so he wants me to choose smth tt i'll absolutely love. Plus i'm the diamond expert. Lol.

We're getting the diamond tt i posted above btw. Den after tt will get a custom-made setting. I wonder if this is unusual in Singapore's context? I know it's common in USA.

Moissanite will not look like a diamond in terms of brilliance and polish quality, altho it's still colourless. It's also a softer stone and will scratch quite a bit over time. If you like the look and the price of a moissanite, then by all means get it, but if you want to pass it off as a diamond, you might be disappointed.

hi web, i didn't go to clarity, I also did it straight with josi because of previous recommendations. You choose the loose diamond that "speaks to you"

then they will do it in the specific setting you want.

Web .. didnt go to josi before..Clarity is my friend's shop. Clarity sells loose diamond as well as ready made ones. They have their own goldsmith who will set the loose diamonds according to your prefer. Amanda , the boss, can also help you design unique setting if need be.
you can check this website.
http://www.eclarity.com.sg/

Their prices def lower.

hi web, yes, josi is definitely cheaper than le* hw* & s** k**. You're paying for their brand, that's why they're more ex.

Josi does have very good cuts. You have to go down to take a look yourself. Sometimes the size you want might not come in the colour you want and vice versa so you've got to ask simon if he can bring in what you want. He should be able to. Give him a call and make an appt.

hi web, sorry, I can't help you there because I couldn't find a 0.9ct at l** h** at that time and josi was one of the few that had it. But I did see a 0.5ct, D colour, VS1 from l** h** for $8000 and it's a normal diamond whereas josi had a D colour, 0.5, VVS2 for about $5-6000. So yes, i think it's quite a big difference. Actually, the bigger your diamond, the cheaper the price difference is

leeh**.. has ranges.. destinee is the Heart&Arrow, i.e. ideal cut. It more expensives even compare with destinee10 or other cuts in Lee H**. Web, you need to know what you looking for before chosing. Cut ? Price ? or Size. For the same size , clarity and color.. diff cut the prices diff already varies.

hello web, the difference is probably +-10%, but most importantly when u go to Josi, there is a variety to choose from. If you don't like any of the diamonds, tell them tht u are looking for something specific and they'll hunt it down for you. After that, u can design and custom make ur own.

Finding diamond is like finding husband, u must fall in love with it, u must also be patient and wait for THE ONE cos its for life. Happy searching keep us updated.

i feel that its hard to determine what's the price difference is like cause sometimes places like L** H** and S** K** ah mark up their prices then give big disc.

Thank you. I have read through the thread above. But it seems most of them if not all is buy the loose diamond from them and set it. While I have my own loose diamond already. So I will just need their setting service only. Do they provide that? Anybody know how much they quote approximately?

I'd say that they are both good vendors. However, Whiteflash's service is more frequently used by those I know. I personally went with Whiteflash too. You can't go wrong with their in-house A Cut Above and Expert Selection diamonds.

Hello...

Just want to clarify something here

1. engagement ring = proposal ring?
2. if engagement ring is proposal ring, then which finger does the girl wear?
3. If engagement ring is not proposal ring, then ???

Thanks

Hi Twin Fairy,

Yes. Engagement ring is proposal ring. But there are several variations of rings/ring exchanging in Singapore. Here are some which I've heard of:

Guy gives gal ring and proposes at the same time. Gal accepts ring. Considered end of engagement.

If Gal wants a formal engagement, gal will buy guy engagement ring, guy will either buy gal another ring (now called engagement ring) or will reuse the proposal ring (only if the gal doesn't accept the proposal ring but accepts the proposal).

After engagement/proposal is complete, guy and gal is very likely to exchange wedding bands during solemnization day.

If solemnization day is not the same day as traditional wedding day, there is a chance that guy and gal will again exchange another set of wedding bands during tradtional wedding day (this is more common when solemnization is very much earlier than traditional wedding day).

But the MOST common way to do it in Singapore today, is for guy to give gal proposal ring. Gal accepts proposal and accepts ring. Both exchange wedding bands during solmenization day. So, gal ends up with 2 rings, gal ends up with 1 ring.

If a guy is wearing 2 rings, and gal wears 2 rings, it probably means they both had a formal engagement. AND/OR they exchanged 2 sets of wedding bands (one during solemnization/one during traditional wedding day)

Hope this doesn't confuse.

Hi cactus,

thanks for your explanation.

Just want to check, supposedly, my bf propose to me, and i accept his ring and proposal, no formal engagement. Which hand and which finger do you wear the proposal ring?

And can you wear your proposal ring on your wedding day? We are thinking of just a church wedding and have the solemnization ceremony in church itself.

Also, after the whole wedding, how do u wear ur proposal ring together with the wedding band?

m_and_n

if i'm not wrong, its the right hand for engagement, and left hand for the wedding.
always the fourth finger.

you can always wear the diamond solitaire on the left hand on your wedding day.. wearing both on one finger is too much.

New Member
so does that mean, i should wear the proposal ring on my 4th right, until wedding day?

i always thot that the diamond solitaire is worn the 4th left, then bf said shouldn't it be on the 3rd left.

i would want to wear my diamond solitaire together with my wedding band.

hope to clarify, as my finger sizes are different on both hands.

In today's society, wearing your ring on what finger doesn't really matter.

If you want to talk abt traditionally, then the left 4th finger is reserved for wedding rings.

You can wear your solitaire/wedding band and any other on the fourth left finger. Simply put, a ring on the 4th left finger says "I'm attached. Thankyou."

If you want to wear your diamond solitaire on the 3rd left and your wedding band on the 4th left. its just overkill. Too many rings on 1 hand.

Keep it simple. One on the left. one on the right.
Wedding band on the left. Diamond solitaire on the right.

If not just diamond solitaire on the left. no wedding band.

what i normally see is, proposal ring is to wear on 4th finger right hand, and wedding band in 4th left hand.

proposal does not equal to engagement. nowadays hardly got people go for engagement.

From what I know, engagement AND wedding ring are worn on 4th left finger. People usually wear either or. But I have seen people wear both on the same finger.

Hi Twinfair, I'm now to the forum and just happened to read your question regarding with fingers to wear wedding rings... just wanna provide some suggestions..

I am a Singaporean but is residing in Australis. Last July, my hubby and I got ROM here too. We are also confused with with fingers for wedding and our engagaement ring (which is already on my left hadn 4th finger - we had our engagament in 2004).

In Australia, married woman had two rings on their left hadn 4th fingers. This is how ppl can differentiate if u r married, engaged or single. Some even have a third ring on the same finger, which is what they called the eternity ring. This is normally given by the husband on their forst anniversary after the wedding or after the birth of the first child.

I have two rings on my left hand 4th finger - one of is my engagement ring and the other is my wedding ring.

However, most importantly is what you and your FH feels comfortable with. And most importantly, you have a ring on your 4th finger to acknowledge your FH.

Hope it helps!

I was searching high and low for my proposal ring and thru my many weeks of hunt, I think the pricing and customer service at Josi Gems are top-notch.

I wanted a specific specs, 0.6-0.65ct, F and VS2, excellent cut and certain table, depth, pavilion and crown measurements, and Simon from Josi actually hunt down for me.

I think for that, he deserve a recommendation. Yes, the competitive pricing (def cheaper than many retailers)is a bonus.

Firstly, sorry for this long post, but I really feel the shop my FH went to deserves this credit. He got our proposal ring at Clarity and strongly recommend that buyers out there buy from loose diamond retailers / warehouse. Sure you can get it at any other loose diamond retailer like Josi Gems which also appears to be very popular from this thread. But since we have only been to Clarity and were very satisfied with not just the rings, but also the level of service that we had, we really feel we owe this to Clarity.

Amanda is the lady boss of this shop and she is very knowledgeable. We managed to learn much more about choosing diamonds after she explained it to us. For eg. Did you know, apart from the 4Cs, there are other criterions such as fluoresce which is listed on the cert? You can then pick your diamond from all these info.

The benefit of buying from a loose diamond retailer is that you get to choose the exact specifications of the diamond you are looking for. In those large outlets, the diamonds are already set on the ring, and you are often unable to choose the setting depending the diamond that you have chosen. My FH just listed out the specs of the diamond he was looking for and she managed to find it in her database, plus he was able to ‘customize’ it by choosing a setting he wanted. Btw, my FH chose a 4-claw setting as opposed to the classic 6-claw tiffany style setting as it kinda made the stone look bigger. Guys, remember to check out her ring size before going down to choose your setting!

Another benefit is also that we were personally attended to by Amanda and she is empowered to make decisions. Twice she waived off additional costs; First when we needed to resize the ring as my FH got my ring size wrong since he wanted to surprise me. And another time when we wanted to engrave a message on our wedding band. It was supposed to be only free for the first 5 characters, subsequent characters at additional cost. Our own special message had about 20 characters but, she was able to surprise us yet again and waive off the additional cost!

We had a very pleasant experience at Clarity and would recommend it to new buyers out there!

May I know where is Clarity? I am sourcing for a proposal ring for my FW but on tight budget. Do you think i can find a reasonable diamond ring below $1.5k?
