Anyone using Electrolux washing machines? Can share the comments?

Is it really the best selling one in singapore as well as in europe?

Is it better than BRANDT or THOMSON

I know there's one type (Electrolux) whereby you can stack the dryer on top of the washing machine - saves space. My FH's sis is using them. Heard they are fine so far, used for abt 1 year plus already. My FH is intending to buy the same type for our new flat too....

Hi Astrogirl,

Yes, Electrolux or maybe most of their models can be stack. What they do is that they mount the dryer on top of the washing machine but they have to remove the top cover of the washing machine. I think you might need to pay for the bracket or stacking tray.

The dryer is always on the top as it is much lighter. . . and remember if you are looking for a dryer look out for a feature that has sensor drying as it is better as we are not in any position to determine the number of hours or min needed to dry the clother and overheating to the clother = no good. It will spoil your clother and remember not all clothing can use a dryer.

Hi Astrogirl,

I am not too sure if they have . . . think they should thou in the past most of the dryer are using timer but consumer are getting smarter so I believed most higher end dryer or better know ones should have.

You can check with the dealers or their website.

Hope it of help to you. . . .

Hi, Just bought an electrolux front load washing machine and a dryer.. and now the thing is my wife telling me she has prefered Bosch washing machine and dryer. Hmm, anyone had experience with Electrolux washing machine? We bought at Harvey norman, the sale assitant kept emphasis that Elctrolux is No.1 Front Load in Europe and Bosch is only the No.1 brand in Europe (including the drills, machines etc). So he told me Electrolux Front Load Washing machine is better. Now quite confused, should I stick to having Electrolux or should I change to Bosch better?

My family has been using our Electrolux front loading washing machine for the last 15 years. Although the surface is worn and old, it is still functioning perfectly. Never had any probs with this machine so far. I intend to get back this brand when I move to my new home

15 years.. wow that's very long.. However, have you guys noticed the metal catch at the door for Electrolux? the Bosch is plastic catch.. the sales people says its to cut cost.. hmm.. but then again the Bosch internal drum is all stainless steel and Electrolux is combination of stainless steel and plastic. And my wife was saying the Bosch drum has more holes and can drain water better than Electrolux hence dryer?
The sales people told me Electrolux for 7 years is ok, but 15 years... wow..

Yeah I was surprised that it managed to last so long too. Mine is totally stainless steel for the inside drum. I have dumped all kinds of stuff inside - clothes, soft toys, bedsheets, and they came out dry, even for the toys. Only need half a day of sunning b4 they are 100% dry. So I see no worries about the dry part.

Can I check with you guys whats the duration for a normal wash cycle? The sales man at best denki told me electrolux washer takes 2 hours minimum for a wash cycle, is it true?

Did some research on washing machines. My 2 cents. Both Electrolux and Bosch washing machines are reputable - won't go wrong if you buy them. So depends on how you like the design, some commented that Bosch is easier to use.

Brandt is pretty new to the market, not as established as the other 2. Thomson used to make very good machines, but nowadays the quality not as good.

Anyone use Electrolux Washer Dryer EW970W? Is there any reasons to buy the washer and dryer separately instead of the washer and dryer in one machine?

ckclass

New Member
Bornfree,

The only major reason why people buy a separate dryer is that if you have a washer/dryer machine, the drying capacity is normally half the washing load of the machine. So say your wash load of your machine is 7kg, the drying capacity is only 3.5 kg....so meaning you will have to take out some clothes while using the dryer. Ma fan la to some people.

hi all,

the thomson, brandt , eletrolux...which are front/top loader that spin horizontally are popular with their energy and water saving...

but i was wonder how much actually they save?
any guys out there actually do the spec comparison for japan and europe brands?

appreciate any opinions. i am now at the market to search for a better washer...

here are some of the shop that may offer good value to share with you all...

1.sweetson elec at B.Batok
2.Raffles Home Appliances at Genting Lane
3.Dav Elec at Lorong Kilat..

hi. from what i know, you should ask the salesperson about how much water they require. some say 49l and some are 59l. some also go by 49l for each wash but some mean 49l for every rinse...have to ask properly. Spin speed is also important too coz if your washer can make clothes drier thru spinning, your dryer does not need to work as hard

have decided to get an electrolux washer and dryer after comparing with borch ones.the salesperson recommended to me saying that the catch is made of metal so can withstand opening and closing for longer time.

hi seahorse,

i have bought the LG washer dryer which is quite over my initial budgeted price. its only delivered mid of jan 06...so i dunno whether its good or not.

but as for the 10 years warranty, i think i give it a try since my wife like it also.
model is 14331AD, anyone here using this maybe can share the opinions???

Hi Ridz,

He said tat Thomson used to be a very good brand but ever since its bought over by Brandt, there's change in their washer design. Washer shd hv 3 arms...stronger movement and clothes would be cleaner, the filter is at the bottom of the washer so one needs to really put hands into the washer to take it out. Then electrolux do not need to wait a second to open the door once the washer stop. then the electrolux internal door latch is better as is all stainless steel, the water spray is better than Thomson as wont get dirty or stained easily, etc etc

i see..

well i must say that since my first thomson machnie around 20 + years ago to now my 3rd thomson machine, i would say that thier design have improved tremedously in terms of the features and what i like most about the thomson is its slim profile.

well about the arms i think its hard to reason. and for the door latch it just safety, waht is a minute or two for safety to be considered. water spray also doesnt matter much.

oh for the trap. yes you have to open the trap door all tge way to the bottom but its maintenance free u dun need to open it actually. i only so far opened it once in say 3 years. nothing at all so i think he is weird.

actually ive heard a lot about the thomson especially against thomson which i find weird, although i am not that against electrolux but in the top load scene i think with electrolux specialising in front load what does it say about thomson which specialises only in top load... weird huh salesman these days

Hi Ridz,

Actually whichever brand shd be ok, electrical appliances really depends on your luck. Like my PIL's Thomson...we only use it for 4 years and it is giving us problem oredi...sigh... So really depends.

Actually, shd do some maintenance for the machine...its for the good of it.

But i saw one Thomson which is really a Thomson brand. Wow, it too exp so i din buy tat...it cost ard $1500.

I was looking at the Electrolux Activcare washing machines at Courts today. I was told that nowadays Electrolux is made in Thailand. I am actually interested in a 6.5kg load washing machine.

When I went to Meyer to look at the Ariston washing machines, I realise for the same price and equivalent features/ fuctions, the washing machine is made in Italy.

Will try to look at other brands before I buy. I want to get a good one which will last for years to come.

hi ahcapp,

i would advise you not only to get machines that is like what you mention ariston vs electrolux in terms of value and where its made in.

what matters most is the features that you really need.

are you looking for a top loader or front loader?
What are the features you need to use frequently?
What is the budget that you have set aside?

look at other critical factors notwithstanding the fact of quality from renowned brands vs where its made in.

hi yoyo can let me know which shop u referring to with regard to the offer for EW880?

hi cool i also am considering EW1290W but after reading what ckclass said (refer to the earlier messages)i agreed that it's quite troublesome to take out half of the washed laundry aside to tumble dry the other half. Time spent is twice that compared to separate washer n dryer....

still can get 799 meh?

I had check 2 shop all above 830.
Reason they give is, European brand increase price.

my 2 cents worth of views...

think all electrical product price will increase... unless u go for outdated product or when there is a new product the old one will goes off slightly cheaper!

Saw that all the discussions have been on Thomson, Electrolux and Brandt...

How about Ariston? It's also an European brand, front load with significantly low water consumption...

ridhwan82

hi sheepish,

yes and there is ariston which yuo could consider to be cheap but you can have a look at the materials that they use like the body etc. its much lighter and their reliability is relatively so so.

hence they dun really make a popular choice.

not denying that they are not good but just that with other better options and better educated we all are we tend to go for better ones and evaluate the cost. even its at a premium cost, may not matter that much.+

again just my views

you could also condsider ariston they are made in italy but not indesit.

Hi ppl,
if really get electrolux then must place it near window?? Just now went down to HN, the sales personnel told us that if we want to get electrolux then need to place it near window as it need to blow out the dirt in our clothes.... So now thinking which one is better option!

The person introduce LG to us... Quite like it and it's a 7kg load for both WM and dryer... But the only downside... it's MIC.... But the only good point is it just like WM... using water pipes to drain out the dirt and other stuff from the dryer...

Plus... Better to check if the portion which lock the WN is made of aluminium... If plastic or acrylic will be easily wear and tear!

Hope this will help those who is interested in getting the WM and dryer.... But not sure which one to choose... Hee..

hi ahblur,

what the person meant is that electrolux is a air vented dryer

while the LG is a condenser dryer.

there are pros and cons for each of the different dryers as you might have found out.

Dryers comes in either air vented types or the condenser types,

in air vented types the air is taken from the surrounding heated and vented through the drum and then out to the surrounding again hence you need to have a place for it to vent

condenser on the other hand heats up similarly the drum but then moist hot air is condensed by the use of condenser and the water is the collected in a drain unit and then released.

some of pros of air vented
faster
less electricity

cons of air vented
need place to vent
and clear the lint filter every use

pros of condenser dryer
can place in tight corners or even built in depends on models

cons
running cost is higher
lint filter
remove water collection tank (depends on models)
so yeah you can weigh it out.

for my new house that im getting im getting miele condenser dryer cos i want to build under the counter top and also cos its superb

blurbaby

ridz,
thanks for explaining... u sound very detailed! Think most likely will consider condenser dryer....

never knew that dryer come with such function! as i sometime blur blur one... so there might be chances coming back to the home and seeing the dirt flying around...

ridhwan82

Member
hi ahblur,

yeah you can consider condenser dryer. unfortunately very few brands offer them.

and they are relatively expensive

one of them is LG which i prefer not to take and the other is BOSCH. however i think the price for the 6kg condenser dryer is around 1k or so.

electrolux does not carry their condenser dryer in.

i would say its not really a matter of the dirt cos its fine lint and you wont really see it its more of the moist vented air that you should be worried.

as with physics if your ambient air is moist air your rate of evaporation would be slower than a place with a dry ambient.

hence if say your dryer vents warm moist air into the kitchen and you dun vent that aream what will happen is that the kitchen will become warm and moist.

and the dryer will continually take in air from surrounding to vent through the drum hence not only will your kitchen continye to become warm the clothes will take longer to dry which translates to higher operating costs.

so there is a hose provided which you can say place it out the kitchen window. to let the moist air to vent out of the kitchen entirely.

or if you have a service balcony that would be better.

and things to take note for condenser dryer is that their electricity consumption is higher. and bear in mind the operating cost yeah?

so its a balance of either buying for convenience sake with slightly higher running cost or a bit of a trouble to save as much as you can.

so yeah some of my thoughs

Hi ridz,

finially brought the Electrolux EW880.
Delivery 2 days ago.

Check with you.
Normally for 60E, how long it take to complete 1 circle.
Should I use 40 or 60E to do my nomal washing.

ridhwan82

Member
hi royal pika,

alright the 60E should normally take around 2 hours if i am not wrong.

and well for the question on the 40 or 60 depends highly on 2 factors

1) how sensitive is your skin. normally for those sensitive skin to kill the bacteria and germs effectively would be to wash at 60 degrees

2) what is the fabric of your clothes. colour fastr ones will fade terribly fast if you wash at 60 as compared to 40.

typically i usually wash around 40 degrees. and those like colour fast ones then i wash cold?

hope that helps
