Diane 35 making me ill(?)

Hi everyone... i was given diane 35 after seeing my gynae for the first time in around october/november 09... she diagnosed me with polycystic ovarian syndrome and checked my hormone levels which was alright though there was one component that was a little unusual. she prescribed me diane 35 cos she realized i have acne problem so gave me 2 months supply...

i started taking it in november 09 but cos it was during the examinations period, i realized i felt extremely extremely ill.. At first i thought it was a relapse of my gastric problem and i was overly stress about examinations and did not attribute it to the pill.. thereafter in december, i stopped after 1 month, hoping my period would come.

No it didn't come at all. i was puzzled but at the same time wasn't too amused cos i always have very irregular and unpredictable period flow since i was young.

so now in jan, after a month going off the pill (which during that period i felt fine), i went back on it again. Right now, the same dizziness, out of breath, stomach bloatedness and cramping and gastric starts coming back all at once. I am really really unsure if it is the pill that is making me ill like this... i eat regularly and have enough sleep too, basically i try my best to maintain a healthy lifestyle..

one thing i have to admit the pill really did wonders for my skin.. my skin cleared up, no outbreaks, and when i stopped for a month, i started having them popping back..

i am a little on the heavier side now because of a fall i had last year that broke my tailbone and i can't exercise (and ate alot) but other than that, i run almost every day, do boxing alternate days and am starting yoga soon. So i really don't know why diane 35 COULD be making me ill..oh, and i'm only 21..

I am looking for a second opinion (another gynae) as i'm pretty uncomfortable with this one i am seeing now. My mom has asked me to go for a second opinion too..i am currently with thomson medical at amk hub as i'm more comfortable with a woman.. i would just like to know if any ladies experienced similar problem and which gynae could you possibly recommend to me...

Hello.

I was on Diane 35 for a period of time. Now it's just on and off if there is a sudden outbreak of pimples on my face.

So far, I have not encountered such problems as you. For the beginning, I will be hungry most of the time. That is one of the effects of the pill which my doctor has pre-warned me. But that lasts only for a the 1st few days.

Yours seems rather unusual. Better to get a 2nd opinion from a gynae

Take care

My family doc recently prescribed Diane 35 for my acne. Not yet taken the pills, waiting for menses to come then can take.

Anyone can share with me any side effects that you experienced? Doc told me it's just the usual hormonal-related side effects, eg. bloated stomach, mood swings, .. She assured me no weight gain provided i don change my diet .. Any other symptoms you gals can share?

Diane 35 will make one feel hungry...try not to eat...

I will usually drink water to make myself full. If I really get too hungry, then I will have a cup of cereal drink or Milo.

No mood swing or bloated stomach for me

Just to share my horror story with BCPs -

Anything that screws with your hormones are really not good for you in the long run.

I took Yasmin for several years. When I stopped, I experienced severe hair loss (more than half the hair on my head), got painful fluid retention all over, weight gain, red spots, hand and mouth cramping, etc, etc. Some people get side effects while taking, I got most of them after. There is a gathering lawsuit against the makers of YAZ in the US and I also read that women have experienced blood clots and apparently a couple even died. I found hundreds and hundreds of women online who are undergoing terrible side effects. Some go through it for years and some are still not okay till this date.

I have seen two endocrinologists and have tested positive for several hormonal deficiencies, some of which I have to be on lifelong meds for. Till date, I have gained about 18kg because of this horror pill.

Because the GPs I've seen have always been dismissive about the negative effects of BCPs, I never thought that they'd cause much harm. Well, too late for me.

I will NEVER take another BCP or anything that screws with my hormones ever ever again. The suffering is just not worth it.

Femme,
Thanks for sharing. Those side effects sound scary. Hope your hormone level will get better after some time.

Weight loss pills have dangerous side effects but many gals still take them.

Green - no worries. I just wanna warn other women out there, coz I was once one of those women who think there could be no harm, since so many other women take it and are fine. However, at that time, I never researched the other side of the story - of women who took it and still suffer side effects.

Add to that - GPs who are dismissive about its side effects. I thought, 'doctor said okay, so must be ok'.

I'm a living breathing example that it's not ok.

Plus I took it nearly 5 whole years, so it'd be a super long time on the road to healing.

So, I hope anyone considering BCPs will please research thoroughly and make an informed decision.

Hi I have been on Diane35 for 6mths (on top of Roccutane) for acne treatment. It did clear my acne at early stage, however one of the side effect was itchiness at the vagina area. Consulted another female GP and was prescribed some oral medication and pills to be insert into the vagina to get rid of the fungal infection. Heard from GP that it's one of the common side effects after taking oral contraceptive.

Though I felt better after the anti-fungal treatment, still get much itchiness and vagina discharge during ovulation and few days prior to menses. Just wanna share my encounter and ask if anyone experience similar side effects as me? Thanks!
