back everyone.

my FH bought me a Destinee last night, pretty out of the blue..

Got me to choose because he said he wants me to get something i will definitely like.
But i had trouble choosing too.. think eventually he helped me to shortlise two:
0.46ct E colour VS2 at $5488 after 10%+10%
0.44ct D colour VS1 at $4700 after 10%+10%

both triple ideal AGS certified.

i eventually chose 0.44ct D colour coz the size really looks almost the same unless u deliberately wants to compare. So i took e best colour, D instead and also the cost is a bit lower, fits into his $5K budget max.

what u guys think?

but i am not wearing it yet coz i want it in a 4-prong destinee setting instead of the 3-prong the SA showed ..

it's really v shinny.. hope the shine and brilliance stays..

Destinee diamonds are gd. Proven with the AGS triple zero cert.

From the two specs, I dun see a reason why anyone want to buy the E color piece which is ~$800 more with lower color and clarity.

I just wanted to share. My fiance did something I think is quite romantic. Our AD is November 2006 (11/6)so he bought me a diamond that is 1.16 carat to match our AD.

I thought that was very romantic since it shows just how much thought he put into getting the 'perfect' ring for me.

I have a pair of Diamond earrings which I want to sell off.

Diamond One
41CT VG/VG F Colour

Diamond Two
42CT VG/VG F Colour

Both VSI/II
I still have the in-house certs from Aspial.

Not sure if any of you are interested. They are regularly cleaned at Lee Hwa as I am particular about wearing them shiny.

Thinking of selling them so drop me a note if you would like to get them. Think it will definitely fit your budgets as I am thinking of selling them cheaper than the stores of coz.

These can be re-set into proposal rings.

Thanks JC for ur assurance. :p

I initally wanted the 0.46 but think twice and thought the good buy should be the 0.44ct.

Squeakers - your FH is so sweet.. 1.16ct is very big..

Hi Sandra,

the shipping by whiteflash to AGA is FOC, but from AGA to SG u need to pay, but total fee add up for the appraiser and the shipping is still cheaper than GST .... if i am not wrong , i think free shipping from these US vendors is only valid if within US, for outside US u have to pay shipping too .... so overall i managed to siam the GST ....

the stone i got from WF is a cut above, AGS triple 0 ideal cut ... sparkling can win destinee, brillance rose etc anytime...i know because i still check out leehwa, sookee and goldheart for the 4 dian jing.... so on and off still got ask their engagement ring for viewing....

by the way, after the ring arrived in SG i also brought it to another appraiser in SG to check the diamond, he told those XX facet H&A is just a marketing gimmick to make more $$$, coz if u take the ring to a pawn shop they would still offer u the same price irregardless.

this recent thread on pricescope may be able to give you more idea on H&A and the price whether u paying for it is justify:

Hi JC,
Sorry for the late reply. it's white gold, 4 prong, and unfortunately, my FH did not reveal the price to me, he only revealed the price for the setting.

hmmm the fedex billed whiteflash for us taxes for the diamond in my case.

the processing center at whiteflash doesnt know how to handle this and asked me to wiretransfer to them the taxes charges.

i havent replied and asked how much yet. which i'm sure it will be more than SG GST.

what are ya views ppl?
pay onli the SG GST charges to them only?

why does fedex need to bill whiteflash for taxes ?

shouldnt all taxes been paid for when WF brought the diamond into US in the first place?

WF should have more than enough exp to know what to do , do a search on pricescope to read about other SG ppl exp

weevenge:
actually the norm is for us to pay GST/taxes to fedex when it is delivered to us.
but the fedex guy just gave the package, i signed and he left.
den whiteflash is claiming they are being billed for the taxes. dunno whether i shd even reply mail to them now.

magnolia:

I was billed GST by fedex direct. Maybe u can tell whiteflash to get fedex to contact u direct instead.

Glad that u like my recommendation.

This is a bit out of topic here, but can anyone recommend where to get the jewelry box for the diamond ring? I did not quite like the box given to me by the shop, hope someone can provide some directions here on any shops that carry a selection of these boxes.

Looking for something smallish, probably around half the size of the palm, with external metal or velvet-like finishing.

Btw I bought a GIA 0.55ct F VVS1 from Soo Kee.

YYL: i think i saw a shop in plaza sing selling alot of ring boxes... u may wish to check it out.....

btw how much did u pay for your stone from sookee ?

weevenge,

Total cost is 4k nett (stone + setting + gst).

I almost bought a brilliant rose, but decided not to because there don't seem to be a significant difference between this diamond and the brilliant rose's fire/scintillation/whatever. Don't seem to justify the extra 50% in cost, for a similar carat wt plus color/clarify one/two notch lower.

hi me new here.... was reading ya posts.... was wondering if the diamond bought from WF is comparable to Lazare diamond of larry??? or destinee of LH??.... anybody bought from the shop next to larry in orchard?.. think is called jetaime? any comment?

Hi Smartwin, regarding the 3 diamonds, I would definitely go for the F colour one cos all 3 are about the same size, but colour is quite obvious to the naked eye. The G colour stone would appear slightly warmer compared to the F colour stone. But some people may prefer a warmer tone so it's up to individual.

The 1st diamond is giving u a HCA of 1.5.
The 2nd diamond is giving u a HCA of 1.4.
The 3rd diamond is giving u a HCA of 1.5.
http://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp

Without seeing the AGS cert for the fault on the diamond, I'll choose diamond (AGS-7088604) for its superior color (F).

Imo, color 'G' is alittle too low and u can actually see a tint of yellowness.

Cheers

icic.. thanks... however, i saw the AGS report on the diamond with some pink colour thingy. its some intrusion, is it visible under naked eye?... what does these intrusion have on the effect of light penetration?

smartwin

New Member
icic... thanks alot... by the way, need to ask u gals.... if it were u... do u prefer to own a diamond which is "branded" like the lazare or destiny?? what is ur perspection on the A cut above(ACA) H&A diamond from white flash. a 0.5ct diamond would cost around $3000+ while a 0.5ct from destiny or lazare may cost $5000-6000+.... is ACA recognise world wide??

so in all, do u prefer a market ready diamond from LH's destiny or Larry's lazare, or do u mind the ACA from whiteflasf but customise to ur setting???

hi all, i read about this eightstar diamond. anybody encounter with it? how is the price compare to destinee, lazare etc..?

thanks JC, that was a great site. however, do girls really mind about brand or they juz want to have it big, shiny and sparkling?

Hi smartwin, yes you can ignore the pink area in the report, but if you're concerned you can get a VVSI diamond instead ;) but I really dun think it's necessary.

Regarding branding, I think it's a personal preference for some ladies. For me, I really dun care. Nobody is going to ask if your diamond is from Larry's, Aspial, or anywhere else. Branding is (in my opinion) an excuse for retailers to mark up the stone further. Think about this, even during 50% off sale, the retailers can still make profits. So how much do you think the rocks are really worth? ;) So dun be blinded by branding. Just keep in mind the 4Cs (carat, cut, colour and clarity) when you shop.

BTW, I'd like to recommend you to go to Jan et Lee at Shaw Centre. The owner Janet is very knowledgeable and friendly. Even if you end up buying online, you can gain a lot of info from Janet before making your purchase. She can also customise the ring setting after you buy your stone. I'm a happy customer.

thanks gooogal, by the way, i saw on other post some pple went to canary to do settings. is this janet u recommend just as good?... so u mean she sell diamond too?... wat's her price comparable to online? cheaper or more expensive?

solonavi

A point to note. Those branded diamonds have high overheads like advertising, franchise, etc. Thus they are always more expensive.

Hi smartwin, yes Janet sells GIA certified diamonds too. She also has a lot of rare cuts that you can't find in those run-of-the-mill retail shops, eg Asscher, emerald, princess. Most shops only sell the brilliant round cut. I can't advise you on the price as I only went to reset my ring at Janet's. She helped to find a stone to match mine. But I'm sure that you can find much better quality diamonds at lower mark-ups than those you get at other retail shops.

New Member
Hi BB Queen, I think it sounds v reasonable, but depends on the cut like JC mentioned. Else, it's much cheaper than a 0.5C brilliant round available at retail stores. You bought it online?

bb_queen

New Member
Hi JC and Goooogal,

Can you elaborate on what you meant by cut? Isn't "princess cut" the cut? I am sure this would have been explained in the thread but there is just too much info to digest (I did tried reading from the very 1st entry but gave up).

I haven't bought it. Saw it at Goldheart.

Hi all,

Would like to check if anyone here has purchased their precious stone from Canary. It's at Delfi Orchard le. Anyone has any feed-up..

goooogal

New Member
Hi BB Queen, "Princess cut" refers actually to the Shape of the diamond. The "Cut" we are talking about is the symmetry of the facets on the stone. Cut is graded Good, Excellent, Ideal, etc according to its measurements/dimensions. You could visit www.pricescope.com to learn more about Cut.

Oh, just want to add that if you buy from a retail shop, unless the stone comes with a cert, usually the stone is not really of the grade described by their "in-house gemologist", but may be 1 grade lower.
