Hi all, this isn't specifically regarding diamonds but I figured I'd ask anyway since you guys seem knowlegeable

I found a wedding band I really like. I want to know if I'm getting it for a decent price. It's a micropave platinum eternity band with 0.33 ct weight of diamonds. The diamonds are VS quality and F color (though I don't know if this matters since the diamonds are really small). The price is 1800. I haven't seen it in any other shops.

Do you guys also think the quality of workmanship, for example the way the diamond is set or the ring, is different at more reputable shops? For example, channel set rings at some places look better than others even though the specs are the same.

Hi lilac, can't tell if ur ring is overprice but keep in mind that a platinum setting will already cost ~S$500.

shers,

why dun u go to charlotte atelier to hv a look at the gabrielle diamonds? they're really veri veri beautiful. i jus bought a pair of diamond studs & they're so so beautiful! veri sparkling!!!

i've a Goldheart round brilliant ring,(GH staff told me that the Zen series is not as sparkling as the round brilliant) but it's still not as sparkling as my gabrielle diamonds even though my ring colour is of a higher grade.

however, all these is jus my personal view. why dun u go and hv a look & see for yourself then decide? anyway see doesn't necessary mean u hv to buy.

I'm looking to sell my ring. Any idea where I can do so? Or are any of your interested? It's a 1 carat round brilliant diamond, not very good color, about I color but cant tell unless put next to an D or E color. But cut and clarity etc is excellant so diamond is still very sparkly.

The centre stone is flanked by 2 0.17 carat marquise stones. Bought for US$4000, selling for S$5500. Good value for such a big stone actually. If anyone interested, or know where I can sell / auction it off, let me know.

Seems like there are sm professionals here...hope to get sm of your opinion

I was shopping for a ideal cut ring, so was looking at destinee and fuego ring of similar 4CS, but I discover fuego is much cheaper than destinee. Y isit so? arent they both ideal cut?

Hi cutie, me no pro but wondering when you mentioned similar, do u mean identical? This is because a diamond price jumps a far bit when it exceed a certain amount of cents. eg. 0.49cts compared to 0.51cts may be of quite certain amount of difference.

Maybe u should look at the performance of the diamond also. Some gd read on diamond performance, http://www.eightstar.com/Cut/es_cut4cs5.htm

Do note that although both claimed ideal cut, some may not be cut as well as another thus poorer performance. This is where HCA (Holloway Cut Adviser) can helps alots. http://www.ideal-scope.com/hca.asp

the 4Cs are similar....guess its the difference in the idealness i.e. table, depth, polish etc...which I have yet to study from the website that JC has provided

fatmtb,

i dun think it's good to reveal the price here. moreover different clarity, colour, etc is of different price. it's better that u go down to the shop to see for yrself. i dun wish to be seen as promoting the gabrielle diamonds.

Hmm..

I guess admin removed Stephen's posts. I understand he could be looked upon as advertising in a way.

But was there a need to remove my post?
I was just trying to encourage diamond shoppers to organize an outing to go to several shops to check out prices and range.

AGREE... if you want to spend thousands of money, go to an established jeweler. no point getting something which you will doubt its authencity later on.

within 2 yrs and is a one time upgrade only. now destinee got 10% discount plus members 10% discount. they will take in the ring the same price u paid and u top up the difference. remember to bring all the cert and receipts.

now they took my old ring while resizing my new ring. starting to miss the ring now.

Sorry but I really do need advice. My soon-to-be husband just bought me a Brilliant Rose. I know nothing about diamonds and am afraid he might be paying too much for a 'fancy'(which I kept hearing everyone say) cut. Why is it so different from the rest of the cuts? The sales person was going on and on about how good this cut is and I was amazed when she flashed a 'conventional' one with a Brilliant Rose in a darker place. The latter seems to dazzle more! Am I just blinded by her words or what?

my hubby insisted of not buying a fancy cut cos more ex and not recognised internationally (latter is his own view)

destinee 10 is a fancy cut version of destinee and destinee 10 cost more than destinee and smaller in ct

but ultimately u will be the one wearing the ring so u must love the ring

Oh no... I must admit I love the cut but now that I have done some research on diamonds, I am beginning to regret for what my future husband has bought... =(

hi, i'm a new member here. =D

my FH has decided to get me an engagement ring, but he only has a budget of $5K.

I always love Charlotte Atelier's Gabrielle diamonds but I am not sure if i can get a relatively nice one with that budget.

Any comments/advice? =)

I'm a fan of Brilliant Rose cos of it's 100% trade in guarantee so I can upgrade to bigger diamonds in the future. I feel the value is better than certified diamonds cos even jewellery shops can offer 50% off their certified diamonds so it makes me wonder what's their real value? At least for BR diamonds, I can be sure that the cut is good and the value is consistent.

Hi Jo,

why not try Larry's and see what $5K can get you after their discounts? Think you can get a decent size for that amount of money. I swear by their "excellent" cut diamonds. Sparkles so much it can blind your eyes =)

can try LH too...
the ring i traded in was a 0.41 E colour VS2 and that time in 2003 i paid $3600 plus after 20% discount.
so with 5k i believe u can get a bigger one.
happy diamond shopping!

Hi Jo,

1st you need to determine what are u looking for in the diamond. Rem there are 4 Cs, i.e. Cut, Clarity, Color, Carat.

If u dun mind color, you can get a rock that is of quite a certain carat based on $5K.

If u dun mind on cutting, look for shops like canary, larry, etc. Most of those major jewellery house that do major advertising will be expensive and most of the time, not worth the price they asking.

Personally, I dun like Brilliant Rose cos of the cutting. The cut is made to bring out more Scintillation. However, the negative is that the sparkle rays tend to be very fine. Moreover, if u look at the scope, the whole cut looks messy athough u're suppose to see a rose.

Many B&M shops are giving huge discount for GIA certified diamonds mainly because GIA is not such a desired certificate. AGS cert or HRD certified diamonds will commend better price which is why those specially cut diamonds like Destinee, will ve AGS certified.

Check out this link to find out more on diamonds. http://diamonds.pricescope.com/

Dear all..

I actually went to Larry .. keke
And Lee hwa, Goldheart on saturday

And my FH also likes Larry the best.. one thing is their knowledge on diamonds and they dont use pressure tactics.. service excellent.. Even offered to write down the pricing and asked us to search around.

Goldheart the SA didnt smile from start to end. LH the price is really higher than even a lazare which i'm so surprised.

According to SA in Larry, the diamond of Lazare will fetch a very high price if we get the equivalent at other retailers.

The price of Lazare 0.47ct E VS1 is $6200 before 20% disc. LH destinee equivalent is $6328 before 10 + 10% disc. Goldheart i forgot coz not interested.

The price difference is min. You should try to look at the rock's performance to compare in this case. Imho, both should be of high performance. It will bore down to ur preference of the cut. Larry is normal cut and destinee is Hearts & Arrow.

Dear all,

We also went rings shopping yesterday. We went to GxldHeart and SooKxe. Both sale assistants are polite. We are shown the below,

1. 0.44 F VS2 PT100 6claw ring, $2800
2. 0.50 E VS2 WhiteGold 4claw ring, $3300

The first ring is from GH and 2nd one is from SooKxe. Any advise on which one is better in value?

I am actually looking more for 5-6 claws cause I scare the diamond will drop out. I asked the SooKxe's assistant he assure that it won't drop out but if I want to change the setting to 5 claws, it will be additional charge of $188.

How how? We are really novice in this area. Don't really have an idea on how to compare the stones apart from the carat and colour which the assistant keep saying.

And its only yesterday that I learnt that SooKxe and SK are different shops. I always thought that carry the same items until the assistant mention that SK is for those younger trend target group while SooKxe is for their more premium customer. And he started on its superbrand logo etc etc.....

Anyone can comment on the 2 rings? Thanks in advance!

Hi weddin, since it a gift and a proposal ring. IMHO, dun bother abt whether its expensive or not. Wat matters is he goes through the effort to get u a ring u like. Anyway, VVS1 is a high grade.

Hi Shir, wat are the cut of the diamonds? Normal cut or H&A? See the early posts on how to determine a diamond is having gd performance.
