Hello all
This is a personal experience encounter at Grand Park Cityhall during 28 April 2012 at their show case.
I and my wife-to-be (WTB) had this good impressive on them during our last two visiting, so we decided to held our wedding lunch there. Initially through e-mail, we would like to have Janice as our coordinator due to her few compliments in forum, but as she is on maternity leave until July, this coordinator Yibin (Assistant Catering Sales Manager) introduce himself as the person caretaking for our portfolio.
Not a very good impression at start
---------------------------------------
On the day of show case, we register our name at the counter and ask for Yibin. Just nice that he walk past behind us and the friendly staff quickly called out his name mention we are looking for him. He seems rushing to do something else and only gave seem like a “Wait†hand sign and walk off. I told the friendly staff we will just go look for him in the small room next to it.
My WTB said that yibin is quite rude the way he responded but I manage to convince her we shall give the benefit of the doubt that he is really busy or something.
Lack of professionalism
-------------------------
We manage to approach him and mention we have correspondence via email. We sat down and start our wedding package discussion. Firstly, he did not give us his business name card which in courtesy I think he should. It started off showing us the wedding package and explains what are stated in it.
Throughout the discussion, there is only one thing he trying to show us I can think of “rushing to end this dealâ€. As a noob, I am expecting more detail explanation of procedure and provide the standard queries every couple should know, but what we got which we felt is rushing of down payment and end this discussion. It actually comes to a moment that the impression he gave us is walking off after the payment when we are still clueless of procedure and thinking what question need to ask. We quickly throw him question what we can think of and finally he sat down listening.
Wrong information
------------------------
We actually go back ask about procedure of wedding card printing that come to our mind after the payment. He can’t give us a clear explanation as he felt the printing vendor (T-dragon) can provide us a more detail answer which he mentions it had an opening booth inside the ballroom. Guess what, after some verification from other hotel staff we were told the booth is not in the ballroom because the vendor did not open any booth there. The coordinator Yibin is clearly out of situation and doesn’t even know what happening there.
Lack of knowledge
-------------------
In the later part, we found out that he actually quote us the wrong package price. 738++ instate of 718++ per table, these are the early bird promotion that couple sign their package on 28 Apr 2012. We had to quickly find him again and ask him to amend the price. Maybe we should have browse through the entire given booklet and have a more understanding which I have to say we should partly take the responsible. But it has come to my mind that if we didn’t see the early bird promotion booklet and ask for amendment, we could have been charge extra for nothing. Then again, this has shown what, lack of knowledge in his job?
Final finale
--------------
All couples signed up the package is entitle to the 4pm lucky draw. We wait until then of course. It has turn out that after the given out 1st price, there are some name list in the lucky draw box. The MC announced that the reminding name list still entitled to complementary gift voucher which in the end our name is not call. You know why? Because our name list in not even in the lucky draw box!!!
There are few couples got 1 or more gifts which turn out we got nothing at all. I am really very frustrated to been shown this kind of treatment. No times wasted, I going for coordinator yibin and demand an explanation, it turn out he is severing another couple which I chose not to interrupt. I turn to Christopher Lee (Senior catering sales manager) and explain my unhappiness and demand a change of coordinator which is then change to Christina Tan.
After hearing my complaint, Christopher in his part do what he can by change to another coordinator and a free dining at their hotel restaurant of two. Is not the best I expect but with no choice but accept it. I can felt through our debating, he as a senior catering sales manager still sided with his subordinates after what I mention Yibin has done. Not an idea attitude I expect but understandable from his role.
Own deep though
-----------------
I believe every new couple need someone in this field who knows the procedure well and be well-organise, patient and understanding. This coordinator Yibin clearly spoilt our day and damaged toward the hotel reputation.
The hotel has excellent location, their food and ballroom ambience is great and most importantly their cost is comprehensive which does have its own good point. But still, I hope any couple who read this post and wish to have their wedding held at Grand Park Cityhall be aware of these small detail I have mention.
