Heard from a uni tutor once that those with honours 2nd lower would not be able to be in the analyst line, even with a CFA, due to the fact that their degree is 2nd lower only. Can anyone verify that? What other positions would CFA be applicable for as well?

Thanks for any input.

Is this true?? anyone?

Hi all,

I will be taking the Dec 06 Level 1 exams. Anybody still sharing the cost of Schweser notes? Or anybody selling their Schweser notes after taking the June exam?

Also, a little confused here. It seems like some of the reading assignments are from 2006 Level 1 CANDIDATE Readings, but the booklist states to get 2006 Level 1 PROGRAM Readings. Any difference?

Appreciate some advice here. Thanks!

Cheers!

hi benard

i'm using the stalla notes.

i haven't seen the schweser notes before, so i can't compare.

but in a recent CFA briefing by SSFA, the speaker mentioned that stalla notes are usually more comprehensive than schweser ones, esp. for level 3 content.

btw, stalla notes and passmaster software costs S$430 at SSFA.

how much does the schweser notes cost at FTC?

hi, i am an ntu accountancy student and also thinking of cfa as an alternative career path. can i ask if level 1 is easy? anywhere i can catch a glimpse of what the standard is like for level 1 exam paper? hmmm. not sure if i am really up to it. my cousin took it and he's now very very successful in ubs and he encouraged me to take it too.

hi princessloo,

for a start, explore the CFA Institute's website
http://www.cfainstitute.org

sometimes, SSFA (Singapore Society of Financial Analysts; it is a sort of "local agent" for CFA Institute) organizes talks on CFA Charter and Exams...
http://www.ssfa.org.sg

as for whether the exam is difficult or not, it really depends on individuals (attitude, amount of preparation put in, academic background etc)...

anyway, the passing rate for level 1 exam is about 35% worldwide and somewhat lower than that in singapore...

well, your cousin must have put in a lot of effort to grow his career besides the fact that he has passed the CFA exams...

btw, if you would like to register for level 1 exam, do it before 15 Aug, cos the enrollment and registration fees will go up from the current USD815 to USD1120...

hope it helps!

Hi guys,

Want to ask if STALLA textbooks shows the calculater computation based on Texas Instruments?

I'm still not decided on which to buy.
I used STALLA textbook before for level 1, I think it's too much information. But now i'm reading Schweser book, some parts are too summarized that I don't understand. Sigh....

If we go to SSFA, can we actually browse through the Stalla study guides?

hi viv,

stalla does show the steps in using TIBA2+ to solve most questions... the exception is amortization...

in capital lease, mortgage, and issuance of discount (and premium) bonds, amortization function is needed... u can refer to the calculator's manual to learn how to use it...

hope it helps!

Dear All,
I am planning to take CFA Level 1. Anyone interested to sell their set of schweser / stella / cfa institute combo set? If yes, please email to me at [email protected].....
as I don't visit this forum often, please don't leave ur msg here. Ideally, the books are bought in yr 2006 or 2005 so that the content are probably more updated. Thanks!

Hi CFA candidates, are you still buying Stella / Schweser guides despite the CFA materials which CFA insitute included in the registration package? I'm wondering if its necessary to still buy the Scheweser guides..
