Steven,

I got a piece of latest news.

AUDIO HOUSE is conducting its GRAND OPENING on 1/2/3 August 08. Their pricing should be much better( Always is the case for GRAND OPENING ) then any other stores in town.

Why not wait till next week to get the best deal?

Hi,

My 5 years old 5kg whirlpool is giving off some eee-eee sound. I'm planning to get a new dryer before it dies on me. I intend to get a new washer as well since I'm changing the dryer (I'm using stacking method, so if I only change dryer now, it may be troublesome to get the ppl in to do the stacking when I change my washer later).

I'm looking for a washer which can finish washing 1 full load within 1 hr. My current 5kg Whirlpool is using 1.5hrs which I feel is too long. Seems that there's not much choices in market now?

Any recommendations?

I was told by IMM Best Denki sales that 45min is for 1/2 load, for full load is 57mins. However, I find its capacity too big (8kg).

How about dryer?

My concern is if I'm getting a 8kg washer and dryer is only 6kg, I'm overloading my dryer.

Not looking at top load as I'm stacking the dryer above washer.

How abt whirlpool? It also has one which can finish full load within 1hr. Quick wash in 30mins.

won't a 8kg dryer consume a lot of electric?

Frankly speaking, I dun need a 8kg washer and dryer cos I wash almost daily.

seems that the other thread has more respond, I will post there to ask for comments. THanks.

well the opti A 45 actually if you really look inside the manual it is indeed only for 4kg of load.. instead of 8..

but then again if your clothes arent really that soiled i guess its 8kg should be much of a problem.

hmm well a bigger drum will give a better wash quality as well as a bigger drum dryer would give ideal drying to be really fast.. but of course.. if you are washing 4 kg all the time then it might not be really fully using the consumptions to its optimum..

actually for the question on 8kg is very big.. seriously speaking the 8kg of brandt.. isnt really that big.. cos of the volume of the drum...something like..57 litres... for 8kg..

this as compared to miele 6kg thats 55 litres.

and electroluc 8kg as 63litres.

and anyway thats for the washer.,..

then on to the dryer.. for a 6kg dryer.. the consumptions is higher per kilo than a 8kg dryer..

cheers

i call Brandt they say OptiA45 can wash full load at 45mins...

especially if your clothes arent really that soiled best.

I think 45mins and 57mins are not much difference.

How about dryer? Should I get a Brandt 8kg dryer??
Or smaller like 6kg or 7kg? If get smaller means I have to monitor how much clothings I put into washer in order not to overload dryer. But 8kg dryer like very taxing on electric bill.

Can I check how many times one need to do laundry when using a 8kg washer? For a family of 2 adults and 2 kids.

thats why i mention that tis meants for very lisghlt soiled clothes only.

cos the specifications actualyl mention for a 45 mins achieving a class for washing and consumptions for a NOMINAL LOAD. note the use of nominal and not FULL 8kg load.

And also the specifications is meants as a refernce for half the load.

i would urge you to get the 8kg dryer from experience. a smaller drum will cause it to take longer to dry for example.

a 5 kg washer coupled with a 5kg dryer. then drying takes about 1.5 hours (store dry cotton)

but with a 5kg load on a 6kg dryer probably its about 65 mins.

the running cost is actually so called lower than on a 5kg by virtue of the time spent drying and also clothes drying quality is better.

well thats hard to gauge.. like my house hold so called lah 7 adults.. i wash like 3 times daily on a 5kg load basis that makes up to be 15kg load everyday!

steventay,
where did you get this pricing $1099 for WFK1018A?
I've checked both Best Denki and Courts, they are selling at $1299.

I think I'm likely to settle for WFK1018A.

And yes, ridhwan82, I did think for the electric bills over the next few years. At least paying for the washer at high cost now is a one time payment.

As for dryer, I'm thinking to settle with EFM102K, 6kg. I dun like the 8kg design, the door part.

Jenny,

WFK 1018A, if you are comparing it with any of the Whirlpool washer, then i must say this..... DONT THINK ALREADY!!!!!

This is a thru and thru mismatch in terms of features and product capabilities. Just the CHINA made understanding will be enough to chase most customers off when you are gonna get a front loader at slightly below or above $1000/-

Pricing for most departmental stores should be similar throughout. Perhaps what you should do is to ask for some discounts(even if its $50/- off also better then nothing). I can assure you the price of BEST and COURTs will definitely not match those of GAB. However, if you gonna purchase EXTENDED WARRANTY, then its definitely the BEST place to go.

steventay,
I dun think GAB has extended warranty? If so, I'm not going to get from them. From my IL's experience, as well as my own, washer and dryer usually start to have some minor faults during the 2nd or 3rd year.

washer_specialist,
I'm not comparing. In fact, I'm a happy customer from Whirlpool, BUT then I'm not sure how's their product now. Mine are 5 years ago. Just like Electrolux, they used to be premium many years ago, but not now, but their prices are still on the higher side.
Yes, prices in departmental stores should be the same, only need to see how much discount or vouchers they are giving. I'm likely to get from Best Denki. Courts extended warranty is too ex.

Oh okkk..

Let us have the feedback to your new washer and dryer once you start to use them,

Remember to ask for some discounts... You will definitely be entitled to some.

jenny,

i would think that you should at least get the EFE310K it is better.. seriously. the consumptions are lower per kg of drying than the 102. just my views yeah

ridhwan82

Member
oh yeah not to mention that 310 is automatic sensor will stop once clothes are dry.

as compared to 102 which you have to set timer. and it takes quite a bit of a guessing game.

having used both mechanical and electronic sensor timing i still think that sensor based timing is better

cheers

steventay

i also feel EFE310K is better as it has automatic stop sensor... manually will not be a good solution...

for me ... i will not get dryer first ... but if i intend to get i will also get automatic stop sensor as it cost abit more only.

Hi Jenny,
Many many years ago (maybe about 15...), I used Maytag washer and dryer (separate one). Heard they're same as Whirlpool??? I agree with you it was a premium brand then, but don't know about the product now either. I was also a happy user of Maytag then.

Anyway, my last washer cum dryer (2 in 1 type) was Turbo and it served me well for about 8 years. So when it started getting noisy this year, I decided to change to a new Turbo washer cum dryer again, instead of repairing it.

I got 8kg washer/dryer at GAB as I didn't think I needed the safety 5 base on my previous experienece. After reading the threads, I can only cross my fingers...

I'm also sourcing for washing machine, and cannot decide among the models below:
1. Bosch WAE12060AG ($869 with $100 courts voucher)
2. Bosch WAE16060AG ($979 with $100 courts voucher)
3. Bosch WAE24460AG ($1399 with $100 courts voucher)

4. Brandt WFH08771A ($915 from Goh Ah Bee)
5. Brandt WFh10771A ($1200)
6. Brandt WFK1018A ($1099 from Goh Ah Bee)
7. Brandt WFK1248A ($1220 from Goh Ah Bee)

8. Electrolux 984 ($890 from a neighborhood shop)

Any recommendations or sharing? I'm using top-loader before so no idea about front-loader. The message from various salesman are so confusing and contradicting.

Some saying Bosch is made in Thailand, latch is plastic so no good.
some says Electrolux uses more water and electricity.
Some says Brandt is not reliable and prone to failure.

I don't have much requirement, just cater for 4 adults (2 now, but my parents may stay with us soon), probably 2 kids in future. Basically I just need a reliable machine and I don't want to change it every few years.

Budget is about 1k with 20% allowance.

Thanks.

cat,

Probably, you went to shop around and met with different salesperson. In the end you ended up with different opinion over the washers which you re after.

In this instance, you should just go with your gut feeling. I will stongly suggest that you purchase EXTENDED WARRANTY in order to solve your unncessary problem over the next 5 years.

Will definitely sve you alot in the coming few years if the machinebreaks down.

twt, i have not get my washing machine yet.

will be purchase first week of oct as i will move in mid oct.

Thomson TX928N 5.5kg Top Load made in France
Brandt WFK1248A 8kgFront Load made in Spain

i saw the manual for Brandt WFK1248A 8kg, it say OptiA45 only 4.5kg load. Now very confuse to get the topload 5.5kg or not..

cos if i get the topload 5.5kg and use OptiA45 then can i place 5kg load or not as the manual for Thomson did not say.

i will get the WM from HM with Safety 5.

Interested parties, can email me at [email protected].

Pls quote "Enquiries of Brandt E676A" as ur subject title, so that your mail will escape my spam filter... thanks

Are you looking to expand family soon?
Also budget?
And of course do you mind washing with partial load till expansion becomes progressive. And thence it will allow for more frequent washing with full load.
