Swing me: Don't really need to get a prepaid card. You can easily find a public phone along the streets or shopping centres. Overseas call to anywhere are charged at 7bath/min. The pay phone accept a wide range of coins 1,5,10 baht etc...Its even cheaper than calling from Malaysia to Singapore
happy.gif

FYI: City complex sells alot of nice ladies clothing, belts etc. Located Along Pratunam market.
Pratunam market stuff are as cheap as Chatuchak. Not much bargain required as they only give discount for items bought by few pieces. They always say (Wholesale Price).. cannot discount already.

Chatuchak sell some real nice zen lightings.
happy.gif

Alot of things aren't bargainable. They have priced tags on the items and only manage to bargain for discount less than Sing $1. Lotsa people there can speak abit of Chinese, Teochews or abit of Hokkien...

BEWARE! Almost all Taxi drivers will go by metered unless traffic jam then they will go by fixed price of 100baht (Don't agree for any price above that) Some Drivers will take you in for a LONG LONG ride along the tollway and you will end up paying for more. Encountered 2 dishonest drivers who did that.
Their new tactic, the only thing you could do is confront them. They drove me from Suan Lum to Victory Monument then to MBK. Another 1 drove from Chatuchak to tollway - Rama VII, Rama VI tollway then to Suan Lum then to Siam Paragon

mugenz - Excess baggage charges varies, depending on airline, airport authorities (at the city of departure) and your final destination. For example from Bangkok back to S'pore, Tiger Airways will charge THB200 per kg for anything above the 15Kg allowance per person. And generally, one piece of luggage cannot weigh more than 32 Kg for safety and labour laws.

Hi,
I just got back from BANGKOK, spent my time shopping and shopping. The new paragon is open and they are having 5-20% discount for most of the brand.

A cheap place to recommend for massage, we paid $300Bht for 2 hours massage at PATPONG. They are pretty good too. Its just beside the BUGs cafe.exit

Hey all,

I heard from my friend that there is a place at Chinatown selling alot of hair pins and cute little things. Do you know where is the place called? Is Pratunam market nice place to shop than CTC ? So is Siam Paragon nice place to shop ? Any good chinese resturant to introduce?

Hi Ping

It is called Sampeng market - a street that sells accessories like Hello Kitty, Doreamon, Strawberry Shortcake, etc... They sell hair accessories in a pack, same design maybe with different color. E.g those hair clips in SG Aries sells at $1-$1.50, over there is a pack of 6 @ 25Baht.

Both Pratunam & Chatuchak are great places for shopping of cheap clothings whereas Siam Paragon is more to high end shopping like our Paragon.

Chinese restaurant - defintely will be Nam Sing & Hai Wai Tian which are famous in Chinatown for their shark's fin & bird nest.

ping: Its Sampeng Lane, most things are sell in bulks of few. Go MBK Nam Sing pls... Chinatown NamSing standard not as good as MBK although both restaurant are same.

yes Pratunam is nice to shop.. lotsa cheap deals but usually clothing are sold in bulk of 3,4,6 or 12 otherwise no discount. Even no discount, they are still quite cheap

Hi Icy,

only 2 person going, think stay hotel better...

Just flag a cab, cos no BTS nearby. No worries, you can always get a copy of map at the arrival hall.

ping: Sampeng lane open from morning til 6pm (BKK Time). Its at the end of Chinatown on the left side. When you walk along Chinatown left side, at the far end, you will notice a small lane selling lotsa cute accessories and stuff, that is Sampeng Lane. I guess there is only 1 such market in Chinatown so it should be tough to find. Anyway unless you are hanging ard Chinatown, otherwise take a cab down to Sampeng Lane if you can. Map isn't detailed enough for you to find your way inside. Its further up Nam Sing.

I would like to recommend this restaurant... it is in Siam Discovery Center .. The restaurant is called Sumo Restaurant.

Sumo (Japanese)
Siam Discovery Center
6th floor Bangkok
Tel: 0-2658-0535

Here you gets 4 different cuisine : Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Thai. Pricing is reasonable and food not bad.

HI all...
I'm a BKK fanatic! Have to share this piece of info... We love staying at the Centre Point (Petchburi15) around the Pratunam area. Rooms are HUGE, clean, nicely furnished and priced right. Request for a room on a high floor (19th and above)! The view is good. Best part... Its only a short walk to the Pratunam Wholesale Centre, the BTS Station, the World Trade Centre too. If you're the walking type, you can walk all the way to MBK. It'll only take 20mins or so.

L. S.: Wow.. you must be a fast walker.. 20mins you can walk from Pratunam to MBK... Not bad..

It takes me half hour to walk from Pratunam to WTC only..

No lah... 20mins or so means we take up to 30mins to walk from Pratunam to MBK.
From Pratunam to WTC is only about a 15min walk... Of course we stay focused!

Hi, Purple rain

I will recommend Samran place as their room is cleaner and service is better than Bangkok City Inn. But Bangkok City Inn is nearer to World Trade Center and Pratunam though. For Samran Place, u have to walk abt 5min to the Ratchathewi BTS. Asia Hotel is connected to Ratchathewi BTS.
I'll still go back to Samran Place after so many trip to Bangkok, unless i had more money for better hotel or apartment. Samran website: http://www.samran.com/main.asp

Hi Ohstrawberry,

How about in Bangkok? Tiger Airway is at T1 or T2?

Heard that Samran is quite hard to locate, esp taxi drivers. Is there any street hawkers around the hotel?

eteh,

That's a grave mistake on the travel agent's part! Surely they will have to change it for you. After all, you're paying for their service. I'm sure the travel agent will work it all out on Monday. They should. You may wish to call them first thing on Monday to be sure. have a wonderful time in BKK!

Do you and your hubby like massages?? If so, you and you're in for a wonderful treat! BKK is famous for their body massages. We like going to Healthland along North Sathorn Rd. Very nice place. No sleaze whatsoever. They provide aromatheraphy body massage, Thai massage and foot reflexology. Facials too. Great place. But be sure to make an appointment before you go. Esp for body massages. Then there're the numerous shopping malls! Check out Chinatown too. We also enjoyed the boat ride down the Chao Praya River. It was fascinating! If you like theme parks, you may wish to visit the Dream World just outside of Bangkok. You can book thru the travel agent at the hotel you're staying at. By the way, which hotel will that be??

Hi Zenn,
She was 4 months then, and hers was a pre-natal massage, done by a specially trained therapist. I think they have a very strict policy re: preggy women, cos she just wanted a normal aromatheraphy massage but when she told them that she was pregnant, they told her that she could only have that special pre-natal treatment. They even refused to let her do the normal body scrub treatment. So I think you'd be in safe hands. But must call and make appt 1st. Let me know if you want the number...

Hi all,
I just came back from BKK yesterday night.

eteh,
Good for you! You're going BKK!

Yan Ling,
I changed my money at Suntec. The exchange rate was 23.92. You may want to check it out.

BKK was lots of fun. Even though this is my 3rd time there within 12 months, I still shop like crazy. Here’s some of things I did:

1)ate shark’s fin at Nam Sing at both the outlets at Chinatown and MBK. I ordered the Shark’s Fin in red soup for 300baht. The one at MBK definitely gave much more fins. The crab-shrimp fried rice (100baht) and Prawn fried rice(100baht) is deliciously too.

2)Went to The Pizza Company for pizza. They have this set with 1 large pizza stuff crust pizza (6slices), 6 wings and a loaf of garlic bread for 399baht

your_image.gif

3) Ice-cream at Cream & fudge (Siam Paragon food hall). They have a list of their ice-creams in their menus with English explanations on what goes into each of their creations so after I’ve ordered my ice-cream, they will get 2 scoops of ice-cream (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry etc) and put them onto this frozen plank before they mix in the other ingredients (e.g. nut, berries, marshmallows etc) depending on your order. All their ice-creams are at 150baht (unless you want extra ingredients). You get to choose where you want you ice-cream, on the cone, in cup or cup with waffle in it at no extra charge.

4) Painted my nails toes. Many shops can be found after the bridge connecting MBK to Siam Square. You choose a design from their pictures/samples. The prices are stated on it starting from 200baht. The more intricate the design, the more expensive it is. I did mine for 200baht (refer to pic below). I don’t think they do pedi/mani, they would just paint you nails for you.
