Hi all,

If you don't mind staying in Service Apartment, I would recommend "Centrepoint" at Petchaburi to stay. Cheap and nice, not sleazy at all. They have swimming pool, jacuzzi (just beside the swimming pool), daily ABF and their room is more spacious too. Here's their website: http://www.centrepoint.com/Default.aspx
They have security guard there, so no worries on the security part. Less than 5 mins walk to Pratunam Market.

HI...
I agree with xiaobaibai. Centre Point along Petchburi Rd is excellent! LARGE rooms! Lovely pool and jacuzzi. Good service. Great rates. Only downside is the buffet breakfast. Very small spread. But hey, in Bangkok, you'll never starve! Lots of delicious food everywhere.

hi haru,

if you're constrained by budget..can check out Pinnacle Lumphini Hotel. it's not as central but it's very near to Lumphini Night Bazaar and Lumphini MRT (v short walk). It's very decent for a three star hotel. located on Rama 4 road, in Lumphini Area. Though not lavish, this hotel is definitely value-for-money. The staff is friendly, can speak english and the breakfast is quite good though not much variations if you eat there everyday. if i don't recall wrongly..i only paid $80+/per room per night the last time i stayed there..hope that's within your budget?

or you can also try Bangkok Palace Hotel - near to Pratunam.

hi Haru,

I liked Grand Diamond which is opp Pratunam area. It isn't the closest hotel to any train station (prob 5-7 min walk to the train station where Asia Hotel is), but the cool thing is tt it's located along a main road & it's an all-suite hotel. I loved it's room, nothing outdated at all, the living room & bed room are seperated by a door & huge TV console

U can actually do simple cooking in the suite too, in the event u just happen not to be able to go out or sthg

I've also tried Windsor Suites near Emporium. Also an all-suite hotel, but the rooms are a tad older but the whole ambience of the lobby & cafe is pretty gd. The staff who help at the lift lobby are really gd, very polite & wld assist. Not the most convenient location to a BTS either, at most 5min walk.

Pathuwan Princess & Novotel are hotels which many S'poreans wld select, being the nearest to MBK & the train station. But more pricey..

Others like to try Baiyoke Sky where the rooms give u a gd view of BKK city & it's located within Pratunam

U might want to surf Asiarooms.com for more info on the hotels u have short-listed & assess before deciding which hotel to take-up

My first trip to BKK I went to Wingo travel at Ppl's Park B1, my 2nd trip i booked thru Asiarooms & flew by budget

hi haru,

U're most welcome.. Fr S'pore-BKK i took AirAia & BKK-S'pore i took TigerAirways

I just received an email on some promo which TigerAirways has, but the travel period must be made by 17 Dec.. But i do suppose there ought to be more promos for the Christmas weekend

Usually i buy return tixs, so far i been to bkk 3 times.
1st time was by air asia, the other two time by tiger air...
not sure if buying one way tixs be cheaper or not though .
haru,
my hubby usually booked hotels from asiaroom.com i think ...he find that website not bad loh ..maybe u can try too..

hi Haru,

I got my tix actually from a fellow SB forummer.. Happened tt she was in her 1st trimester of her pregnancy, so to pre-empt any complications she sold her tix online.
Think if buy round trip, may not necessarily be cheaper. Checked the budget airline websites, some are cheaper for the same day similar timing, so u can always purchase ur tix fr different airlines.

If u prefer clean & budget hotels, then i think Asia hotel's the best with its location. Its connected to the BTS

Hihi Tamarind,

Oh yes, Hotel Intercon is very beautiful & also connected to an elevated walkway to the BTS. But too bad it's kinda pricey.. Can splurge if its for a honeymoon!

Peninsula is gd? Share more details.. If attractive enough, i might just try it during my next trip

hi mehmeh,
i see. yeah, have spent quite a bit of time checking it out and its actually cheaper to get one way tix from diff airlines. but still not that cheap yet. i can easily get a budget hotel, but for air tix its a lil more diff. coz rite now not much promos for travel dates in dec.

i was thinkin more of Bangkoj city inn, seems like it has the best location for its price...

Hi mehmeh,
I haven't stayed at Peninsula, but heard that it is the most luxurious hotel in Bangkok. Normally it is US$230+++, but sometimes has special offer US$150. I will definitely stay here the next time I go.

I just came back from Bangkok, and stayed at the Meritus Suites, US$105 per night including breakfast and one way airport transfer in a limousine. The room is very new and nice, and is almost twice the size of normal hotel rooms, with separate living room and bed room.

hihi Tamarind

oic... So u room at Meritus Suites is really a suite. Is the location convenient??

Sure sounds u wld splurge on accommodation when at BKK huh?heheh... Till i have learnt to be more willing to splurge, i think i shall stick to the middle range & allocate more for eating & shopping..

hi

anyone stayed at pratunam park hotel before?
our agency told us it has been renovated recently and it's pretty decent now.
we're deciding between asia hotel, baiyoke suite and pratunam park.

hi blueroti,

I think amongst the 3, it's still undeniable tt Asia hotel's still the most convenient. It's connected to the BTS & also a short walking distance away fr Pratunam

Baiyoke Suite looked rather dingy to me. It's located right in the midst of the busy Pratunam, but tt means u can do lotsa garment shopping, deposit in ur room & still head out w/o losing time

Not too sure of Pratunam Park, u might want to ask under the main BKK thread

I would strongly recommend The Twin Towers hotel, it's abt 10 minutes walk to MBK, very convenient. the hotel room is clean and spacious, lots of Japanese staying there. The rate is very affordable, SGD50-57 per night including breakfast.their breakfast are those healthy stuffs, non-oily breads, low fat milk..etc. u can go to the below link to book http://www.precisionreservations.com
rate is USD28 per nite + USD6 for service charge per nite.

you can book similar hotel through www.hotelclub.net but the rate is SGD 70 per nite.

Grand Diamond and Centre Point (Petchburi 15) get my vote for great accomodation at decent rates! Both are situated very close to the Pratunam Wholesale Market and are walking distance to Bangkok's World Trade Centre and then about another 15 mins walk to Siam Square which is close to MBK, etc. Check out their rooms at sawadee.com

lol .. i guess it only me but i encountor spooky stuff when i was staying at grand diamond last yr .. so i would not recommond grand diamond :p

Hi everyone, just my 2 cents on the Peninsula. If you can, try to ask for a balcony room, very good views of the River. The hotel is perfect for honeymooners and weekend gateaways.
The only down side is that its on the other side of the river, which means that you'll have to take a boat everytime you want to go shopping / town, but its no biggie because the hotel provides complimentary waterboat shuttle service to take you across.

I liked it alot, because its away from the hustle and bustle of BKK traffic and was perfectly happy to just spend time in the hotel enjoying its facilities. However, if your purpose is to go BKK and shop / sightseeing, I suggest you stay in somewhere less expensive.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan is good too, but of course, can never be compared to the Peninsula

Can try www.asiarooms.com - they usually have good rates for the Peninsula.

hi

anyone stayed in holiday inn Patumwan b4? exact address:
971 PLOENCHIT ROAD, PATUMWAN. Is it near the MBK? If so, how far or near is it? Thanks

Hi noscon

If I recall correctly, that particular Holiday Inn is located right next to the Intercontinental. It's quite convenient..the skytrain station is right next to it. Probably 2 stops away from MBK. Also within walking distance to WTC, Big C and Central dept store. The hotel was renovated a few yrs ago so the rooms should look quite new.

HI all...
Planning my trip to Phuket when i chanced upon this hotel situated in Bangkok's Chinatown... Shanghai Inn. Boutique hotel. Looks impressive from the pictures. Very 'boutique-ish'. Doesn't cost an arm and a leg either. So, if there is anyone who has been to this hotel, tell us more please!

I'm tempted to try it out the next time I visit Bangkok.

Hi candytan,
Maybe you can try Samran Place hotel. Its about $37+ per nite. I will be stayign there next mth when i go there so can't commend much on this hotel yet. But from teh comments i got from the forum, it seems like a worth it hotel. Its near to BTS station as well. The hotel rooms is like our costa sands chalet lor...

If u looking for something more high class, can try Arnoma or Prathunam Princess.
